Ladies and Gentleman,
I'd like to dedicate this issue to ADAM WAINWRIGHT. Thank you for win number 1! Just when we thought it was all over, Ervin Santana pitched a complete game gem to give me an outside shot. Going into Sunday night baseball with Maine and Wainwright, we needed something special to happen. When it was 3-3 at the end of 5 I switched off ESPN knowing that the Mets chance of victory was 0% and the chance of me getting the fantasy production I needed was slim. How wrong was I?! Adam Wainwright went the distance and struck out nine as the Cardinals topped the Mets 3-2. Yes, my team lost ANOTHER series this season BUT my fantasy team pulled out a HUGE victory! Wainwright threw 107 pitches in the four-hitter. One of the runs he allowed was unearned. His ERA stands at 1.50 ERA after three starts, all of which were wins. Further confirmation of keeper status...STUD!
While I am happy about being .500 at the Mets expense, they still keep me down. That's why I found this...watch and LAUGH (even if you're a Mets fan)
Some bright sports for us is that with Mike Jacobs being designated for assignment, Ike Davis, a spring training sensation, who is hitting .364 in 10 games at Buffalo is coming up (and wearing #29)! Hopefully Omar doesn't follow Mets history and move what appears to be a franchise 1B. Still no word on whether or not to pick him up in leagues...we'll review more in next week's issue.
To add to my fantasy joy and Mets disgust, my Jets signed Santonio Holmes! Effective week 5, we'll have potentially the most dangerous receiving corp in the NFL with Braylon Edwards and Jerricho Cotchery joining Santonio out there. I know its only April but its all I got in professional sports...can't wait to sit in our seats in the NEW Meadowlands!
Elsewhere in the NFL, Ben Roethlisberger walks and Roger Goodell is yet to act...
Last week, I totally forgot to mention that I dropped Pudge for Yadier Molina. Some of the other moves I made off the waiver wire through today include:
Padilla, Vicente SP LA - Added
Niese, Jonathon SP NYM - Dropped
Rodriguez, Ivan C WAS - Added
Molina, Yadier C STL - Dropped
Niese, Jonathon SP NYM - Added
Kendrick, Kyle SP PHI - Dropped
Kendrick, Kyle SP PHI - Added
Iannetta, Chris C COL - Dropped
Rodney, Fernando RP ANA - Added
Maine, John SP NYM - Dropped
Molina, Yadier C STL - Added
Rodriguez, Ivan C WAS - Dropped
I also plan to drop Rodney this week barring any setbacks to Fuentes.
The Kyle Kendrick move was a complete waste of 50 cents. TG Fantasy Baseball reports: 'Kyle Kendrick had another horrible outing for the Phillies Wednesday night. Kendrick has not looked like the pitcher in spring training. Kendrick allowed 6 ER on 3 BB and 6 hits in only 1.2 innings of work in a no-decision. Kendrick has an ERA of 17.47 and cannot be relied on right now in any fantasy format.' Obviously, I dropped him and replaced him with Jonathan Niese...Yes, I am a homer. No, I am not thrilled to have him on my team which is why he was dropped after the rosters locked.
Looking ahead this week:
I benched Nolasco and Ervin this week even though they had monster starts in week 2. While Nolasco has been solid in his career against the Rockies (2-0 with a 1.93 ERA at Coors Field), I have a hunch that says he is due to get crushed so I followed my instinct and benched him. Ervin is pitching against AJ Burnett and the Yankees which is always a risky start. I started Niemann and Niese over these two as I believe their 4 starts will get me more points then Nolasco and Ervin Santana's 2. I also got Zimmerman back in my lineup this week and kept red hot Prado in over Jose Lopez. Lets hope he remains hot. It's never a fun week going against the guy who drafted Pujols.

Finally, some random ramblings from the week...April 15th was tax day; not much to look forward to except FREE FOOD! I must admit that I did not realize this until stumbling upon this article too late. However, next year, I will absolutely participate!

Chuck and pray!
