4/27/22 The writing may be on the wall for Alcides Escobar with the Washington Nationals. The shortstop is starting to look like the player who was out of Major League Baseball for two and a half years before the Nationals acquired him from the Chicago White Sox’ Triple-A affiliate. In 61 plate appearances this year, Escobar is slashing a pitiful . with five runs and two RBIs, while his strikeout rate has nearly doubled from 16.0% in 2021 to 27.6% in 2022.

4/25/22 Former Royals shortstop Alcides Escobar angered by Giants breaking ‘unwritten rule’. The Royals travel to San Francisco in June to face the Giants, which could be noteworthy for more than the rarity of KC playing regular-season games at Oracle Park.

4/19/22 Washington Nationals 6-1 over Arizona Diamondbacks in day-half of today's doubleheader in D.C.. You Are Already In Scoring Position At 2B? Alcides Escobar, who’s struggled at the plate early this season, but showed some signs of life offensively over the weekend in PNC Park, worked a 10-pitch, leadoff walk in the home half of the third inning in this afternoon’s day half of the Washington Nationals’ twin-bill in D.C., and the veteran shortstop moved up on a sac bunt by Victor Robles, then got thrown out trying to steal third with two out and Juan Soto at the plate, which, not great.

4/15/22 Nationals' Alcides Escobar got hit square in the beans on a pick-off throw. Losing by five runs to the Pittsburgh Pirates is bad enough, but Thursday was an especially bad night for Alcides Escobar. The infielder was taking a lead off first base in the top of the fourth, when J.T. Brubaker tried to pick him off. That’s when things went wrong.

Davey Martinez talked earlier this week about Luis García, (who came up as a shortstop, but has played mostly second in the majors the last two years, mainly because that’s where the need was for the Washington Nationals), playing short this spring as well as second as he is fighting for a spot on the Opening Day roster with veterans like shortstop Alcides Escobar and second baseman César Hernández.

3/18/22 For a Nats team building for the future, veteran Alcides Escobar is shortstop of the present. The Nationals enter this season walking a line between trying to be competitive in the present and building for the future. No position is a better example of this than shortstop.
