He will be hard pressed to be more than a defensive replacement and spot starter when he returns, given the solid play of Bill Mueller and Kevin Youkilis in his absence.

"I was stretching a little too close to (David) McCarty and McCarty's fist caught me right in the jaw," Reese said. "I couldn't even eat afterwards but it's better now." 2000The Reds did not get Ken Griffey Jr. in the off-season because they did not want to part with Reese. He has worked out and added some muscle in the off-season in hopes of improving his power and speed. He will be the starting second baseman again for the Reds and at age 26, he should be able to improve on last year's numbers.
