The Arizona Diamondbacks just took two out of three from a Texas Rangers club that had won seven of eight heading into Chase Field. When Zac Gallen began to show signs of re-emerging as a top-end starter in the beginning of August, it was easy to assume that was a mere flash in the pan. The Rangers are not a poor offensive team. Despite winning, Arizona's season is a disappointment considering their hopes at the beginning. Right-hander Zac Gallen served up two costly homers, and five Cleveland Guardians pitchers combined to shut down the Diamondbacks' offense, handing them a 3-1 loss on Monday night, Aug. 18, at Chase Field. C.J. Kayfus and Brayan Rocchio each homered off Gallen — Kayfus with a solo shot in the second, Rocchio a two-run shot in the fifth — spoiling an otherwise sharp performance. “It's kind of one of those sour ones,” Gallen said. Arizona's Zac Gallen (9-12, 5.31 ERA) is expected to oppose Cleveland's Gavin Williams (7-4, 3.38) in a battle of right-handers on Monday. The Guardians have been among the hottest teams in the American League since July 7, going 23-12, but they were swept over the weekend at home by Atlanta. With the longtime Arizona Diamondbacks teammates entrenched in trade rumors, there was a high chance their days pitching in the same rotation were dwindling. “A lot of, 'Well, if this is the last golf (game), this is the last dinner,' things like that,” Gallen explained.
