Sample Trade & Recommendation

A lot of folks have been wondering exactly how this service works. Well, a sample of what we do may help out a bit.

Here is an actual trade that was sent to us during the 2008 season:

Two-team Trade:
Team A trades Zumaya, Joel (P-DET) (Salary: 4 ) to Team B.
Team B trades Halladay, Roy (P-TOR) (Salary: 32) to Team A:

Here is the recommendation from the RotoUmpire. All trades submitted to us are evaluated in a similar fashion to the info you see below:

General resolution:
It's very early in May to be playing for next year, and Zumaya is not even up and playing right now, coming off another major injury, so it's extremely difficult to take him seriously as a keeper. Given that Todd Jones has been solid, we don't see Zumaya having much value in the second half of this year in the limited innings he will get. Halladay is a very solid starter who has been extremely consistent over his career and is off to a good start this year. We understand that Zumaya is only at $4 while Halladay is at $32, but there's a reason for that...Halladay is simply that much more valuable and just because Zumaya is cheap, does not mean he will be a solid keeper. Halladay definitely has a very large value edge in this deal, and we rate it a 2 and suggest it not stand.

Individual Player Notes:
Zumaya has been hyped for several years now as the Tigers closer of the future, but he's fallen into the trap of constantly getting injured. Todd Jones is pitching well this year, so if Zumaya has no setbacks and returns at the all-star break, he will be used as a setup guy. Jones is only around for 1 year (though a solid season could encourage the Tigers to sign him to another 1 year deal like they did last year after a mediocre season), so there's a chance that Zumaya could be closer next year, but it's a tad early to be speculating on what's going to happen next season, especially given Zumaya's injury-trend and the wealth of questions concerning who could close for the Tigers.

Halladay seems to have overcome the serious injury bug after 2 healthy seasons in a row. He's a top tier starter who should get good wins, have a great WHIP, and a solid ERA. His Ks are slightly below average.
