Willson and William Contreras became the second pair of brothers to homer in the same inning as opponents in baseball’s modern era. Both went deep Saturday in the ninth inning of the St. Louis Cardinals’ 8-5 win over the Milwaukee Brewers that snapped the Cards’ six-game skid. Willson Contreras’ ninth homer of the season, a solo shot to right-center, gave St. Louis an 8-4 lead in the top of the ninth. William Contreras led off the bottom half of the inning with his sixth homer. The Contreras brothers are the first to homer in the same inning as opponents since Rick and Wes Ferrell on July 19, 1933.

6/15 10:23 AM Zach Brzykcy (P-WSH) Nationals' bat-retrieving dog Bruce laps up pregame attention, makes MLB debut. The dog days of summer arrived at Nationals Park. Bruce, a 21-month-old golden retriever, fetched a bat during a ceremony before the Washington Nationals’ game against the Miami Marlins as part of a Pups in the Park promotion. He retrieved bats the last two seasons with the Rochester Red Wings, Washington’s Triple-A affiliate. Bruce, wearing a bandana with an “MLB debut” patch he received when he arrived at the stadium, was presented a commemorative bat. He then took a circuitous route from the dugout toward first base after Nationals reliever Zach Brzykcy dropped the bat in foul territory before the bat dog collected his quarry.

Minnesota Twins center fielder Byron Buxton was scratched from Sunday’s lineup a day after being hit on the left elbow by a pitch. Buxton left Saturday’s game against the Houston Astros with a bruised elbow after Hunter Brown’s throw in the sixth inning of a 3-2 loss. Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said after the game they didn't believe the injury was serious and that Buxton was listed as day to day.
