David Peterson (P - NYM)
7/9/25 3:00 AM - Reese Kaplan -- Which Pitchers Do You Keep for 2025?. Now in part two it's time to look a bit at how to enhance the increasingly thin pitching staff from whom injuries force overuse of others and the end result is exhaustion. When was the last time the Mets had back-to-back decent pitching performances from the starters? It would seem as if any component of the pitcher's body when used too often or too intensely will lead to time away from the mound ranging from a single start or relief appearance. David Peterson is theoretically the current number one starter.

Jordan Romano (P - PHI)
7/9/25 2:56 AM - Giants catcher Bailey makes history with game-ending, inside-the-park home run. Patrick Bailey’s entrance into the Major League Baseball record books began with a tight swing that sent a fastball from Phillies reliever Jordan Romano into Triples Alley. It ended with Bailey chugging his way around third base then getting mobbed at home plate by his teammates after becoming the third catcher in major league history to hit a game-ending, inside-the-park home run. It was also the first time in nearly nine years that a player has hit a walk-off, inside-the-park home run in the majors. Cleveland’s Tyler Naquin was the last to do so on Aug. 19, 2016.

Suwinski struggled mightily from the plate for the Pirates this season, hitting .128/.244/.154 for an OPS of .398, with just five hits in 39 at-bats and six walks to 19 strikeouts in 16 games.

7/8/25 2:00 PM - Red Sox Will Contend If Insider's 'Upgrade' Suggestion Happens. Stop us if you've heard this before, the Boston Red Sox can still surprise some people. Boston has had an inconsistent season, for sure, and yet it still is two games above .500 and is just going to get better. The Red Sox have navigated the season so far after all of the drama with Rafael Devers, trading him away, losing Alex Bregman to the Injured List for a while, losing Triston Casas for the season, losing Tanner Houck for a while, not having Masataka Yoshida available, integrating three of the top prospects in the game, and the list goes on. The Red Sox have already gone through more than some teams will in an entire year and the All-Star break hasn't even passed yet.

The Chicago Cubs are expected to be extremely aggressive when it comes to making upgrades at the trade deadline a few weeks from now. As a team who looks like they can contend for a World Series this year and a window that may not remain as wide open as it is now moving forward, Jed Hoyer and company need to go for it right here and right now. Arms like Drew Pomeranz, Daniel Palencia and Chris Flexen have stepped up to levels not thought possible, and all of the sudden the Cubs have one of the better bullpens in baseball.

With all of the speculation about the trade deadline going on across Major League Baseball, it seems many have forgotten that the 2025 MLB Draft will come beforehand. The action will kick off on July 13th and that's going to be the next opportunity for the St. Louis Cardinals to add another future star to the franchise. Not all picks work out, obviously, but the Cardinals will have a chance at landing high-end talent with the No. 5 overall pick in the draft. Last year, the Cardinals used the No. 7 pick to take JJ Wetherholt and it has worked out to the poiint where he was just promoted to Triple-A already.

It's a bit surprising to see the Phillies only at +125 on the money line for Tuesday's clash with the Giants. The pitching matchup of Taijuan Walker versus Robbie Ray suggests there should be even more of a price disparity. Ray's been pretty good for San Francisco this season with a 9-3 mark, a 2.68 ERA, and 117 strikeouts. If there's one reason for hope for the Phils, it's the fact that they're the only team to score more than three earned runs off Ray all season.

One Mets writer believes New York should go after a Pittsburgh Pirates right-hander having an unexpected career year--one who also spent a brief stint in 2023 with the Mets. Just about every pitcher in the Rockies clubhouse has struggled to find any success on the bump, and this includes the team's former top prospect in right-hander Chase Dollander. Colorado took Dollander with the ninth overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft in hopes that he would become their Ace of the future, and the rookie made his big league debut back at the start of April. In a season where all three of No. 1 prospect Kevin McGonigle, No. 2 Max Clark, and No. 4 Josue Briceño have all proven more than enough to show they were ready for the jump from High-A West Michigan, the Tigers have made a clear statement: this trio is the future of the franchise. In just 36 games for the Whitecaps, he has commanded the spotlight by slashing .372/.462/.648 with seven home runs and 39 RBI while collecting 54 hits and striking out just 19 times. Briceño has been the most powerful, however that does not mean he's just a boom or bust slugger either.

The Detroit Tigers are coming off a series sweep against the Cleveland Guardians, further separating themselves from the rest of the pack in the American League Central. It has been a great start to the season for the Tigers, who have the best record in the AL and are showing no signs of slowing down. Detroit has been nearly perfect this year, but they do have some areas that they can improve. 7/8/25 8:00 AM - Forgotten Orioles Starter Has Turned Corner With His Recent Performances. The Baltimore Orioles have fallen short of expectations in just about every way possible so far this season, and the pitching staff has been no exception to this unfortunate trend. A number of injuries combined with lackluster production from just about everybody else has meant that the Orioles have been forced to cycle through a number of options on the bump in an attempt to gain some sort of continuity. One of the latest moves Baltimore made in this regard was recalling left-hander Trevor Rogers back to the MLB level on June 17th. This lackluster showing led to the Orioles moving him down to Triple-A Norfolk to start 2025, where he was mostly solid for the Tides.

7/8/25 7:12 AM - Predicting Nationals' next big trade before deadline. As the 2025 MLB trade deadline approaches, the Washington Nationals once again find themselves in a familiar role: sellers looking to extract value from their veteran assets. Despite flashes of promise from young stars and a brief surge in early summer, the Nationals are well out of the playoff race and have signaled a clear intention to continue their rebuild. The Nationals' 2025 campaign has been defined by inconsistency and underperformance. The emergence of young talents like James Wood and Dylan Crews has offered hope for the future, but the supporting cast has not kept pace, leaving the Nationals little choice but to focus on maximizing the value of their trade chips.

The Astros entered the new week with a seven-game lead in the division over the Seattle Mariners as they continued to creep up on the best record in the American League, but a loss in their series opener against the Cleveland Guardians halted that momentum temporarily. For a team that was cast aside before the season with the thought being their dominant run was over, Houston is certainly looking the part of a group that can win the pennant once again. At some point in the coming weeks, the Texas Rangers will have to make a potentially franchise-altering decision. Since the 2023 season where they performed at the peak of their powers to win their first-ever World Series championship, it has been nothing but disappointment. Key players up and down the roster were placed on the shelf throughout the campaign, which made it difficult for the Rangers to ever get enough momentum to carry them back into the playoffs. The only Major League addition made to their lineup was Gleyber Torres, who left the New York Yankees and signed a one-year, $15 million contract after not receiving the kind of offers he was hoping to. The veteran second baseman decided to bet on himself, taking a risk joining a team that plays half of its games at pitcher-friendly Comerica Park. Torres is the starting second baseman for the team with the best record in baseball and was selected to start the All-Star team for the American League.

Roman Anthony (OF - BOS)
7/8/25 5:00 AM - Red Sox's Roman Anthony Makes Candid Admission About First Fenway Park HR. Lately, Roman Anthony has been showing exactly why he's considered the number-one prospect in baseball. The Boston Red Sox's 21-year-old outfielder/designated hitter started his major league career cold, but everyone could see the maturity in his approach at the plate. Then, on Monday night against the Colorado Rockies, Anthony finally accomplished something every Red Sox position player constantly envisions during their minor league days--his first Fenway Park home run. Anthony clubbed a fastball from lefty Austin Gomber 418 feet to straightaway center field to put the Red Sox up 5-1 at the time.

Casey Schmitt (2B - SF)
7/8/25 4:02 AM - Phillies' bats go cold in 3-1 loss to Giants. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Casey Schmitt drove home the go-ahead run on a groundball in the eighth inning, Matt Chapman made a headfirst dive into home moments later for another run, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Philadelphia Phillies 3-1 on Monday night. Orion Kerkering (5-4) hit Willy Adames with a pitch to start the Giants' eighth before Chapman's single advanced Adames to third. Wilmer Flores was also plunked to load the bases for Schmitt. Tyler Rogers (4-2) allowed a leadoff single to Kyle Schwarber in the top of the eighth but worked out of the jam for the win. Camilo Doval finished for his 14th save — getting J.T. Cal Stevenson (OF - PHI)
7/8/25 4:01 AM - Phillies prospects handling trade deadline noise: 'You could be gone tomorrow'. Several Class-A Dunedin Blue Jays position players were on the field a few minutes ahead of batting practice on a scorching hot day in late July 2019 in central Florida, so the conversation stayed light. One of Cal Stevenson's teammates eventually responded to a joke by telling the franchise's 10th-round pick from the previous year that he doesn't know what is going to happen tomorrow, that he could be traded. Major League Baseball's trade deadline is July 31. It is in those days and weeks leading up to the deadline that franchises' top prospects are moved to help acquire a major leaguer who can strengthen a team's playoff chances.

Sandy Alcantara (P - MIA)
7/8/25 4:00 AM - Marlins' Shocking Pitcher Continues Turning Heads Before MLB Trade Deadline. The Miami Marlins have a couple of big-name pitchers that could be available between now and the MLB trade deadline in Sandy Alcantara and Edward Cabrera, but another arm has emerged as a very intriguing trade candidate in South Beach: Janson Junk. Junk pitched another gem on Monday night, throwing six innings of shutout ball and allowing just one hit in the Marlins' 5-1 win over the Cincinnati Reds. At 29 years old, Junk does not figure into Miami's long-term future, so it wouldn't make much sense for the Fish to keep him around, especially considering there is always the risk that he is just a flash in the pan rather than the next Cliff Lee.

Emmanuel Clase (P - CLE)
7/8/25 4:00 AM - Insider Reveals Potential Trade Package for Guardians' Emmanuel Clase. The Cleveland Guardians are floundering, and the deeper they get into the season, the clearer it becomes that they are absolutely not legitimate contenders. It stands to reason that the Guardians could actually become sellers between now and the MLB trade deadline, and they definitely have some pieces other teams would desire. Perhaps one of Cleveland's most attractive trade chips is closer Emmanuel Clase, who has bounced back after a forgettable start to the regular season. Clase is under team control on a wildly cheap contract through 2028.

Byron Buxton (OF - MIN)
7/8/25 3:42 AM - Twins' Byron Buxton headed to All-Star Game, Home Run Derby. For all the evidence that Byron Buxton has had an All-Star season, the supporting statistics start and end with this simple number: 73. Availability has long been the elusive piece to make Buxton one of the most complete players in the major leagues, and his age-31 season has brought a fresh wave of all-around production fueled by good health. "It's a monumental return," manager Rocco Baldelli said. To be able to get prime Buxton, basically every day, that's a whole different deal.
