7/29/10 - Hank Schulman is hearing that the Giants are not "heavily considering" acquiring Marlins' infielder Jorge Cantu in a trade.

7/29/10 - Major league sources tell Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com that Dan Uggla has left Jeff Borris and the Beverly Hills Sports Council and joined Terry Bross at Gaylord Sports Management.
Jorge Cantu (1B/3B - FLA)

7/29/10 - Jorge Cantu told Amy K. Nelson of ESPN.com that he would like to re-sign with the Marlins this winter, regardless of whether he is traded this week.
It's not known if the interest is mutual, however it only makes sense for the Marlins to see what they can get for the impending free-agent. The Rangers have been thought to be the favorite to land Cantu in recent days, but Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reported this morning that the Giants have stepped up their efforts to acquire him.
Kyle Blanks (OF - SD)

7/28/10 - The San Diego Padres say left fielder Kyle Blanks will have reconstructive surgery on his right elbow, which could sideline him into next season.

7/28/10 - The organization promoted reliever Derek Hankins to Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday. Hankins, 27, had a 1.82 ERA in 26 appearances (six starts) with Double-A Altoona before the promotion. In 79 innings, the right-hander struck out 48 and walked 27
Shelby Ford (IF - PIT)

7/28/10 - Infielder Shelby Ford has been sent down to Class A Bradenton after playing 55 games with Altoona this season. It was just last year that Ford began the season in Triple-A and was talked about as being the Pirates' second baseman of the future. It appears he is out of any such plans now.
Gorkys Hernandez (OF - PIT)

7/28/10 - Pirates outfield prospect Gorkys Hernandez will miss the rest of the season after fracturing his right ring finger on Sunday. Hernandez is scheduled to undergo surgery that will sideline him for eight-to-12 weeks.
Ross Ohlendorf (P - PIT)

7/28/10 - Ohlendorf was hit in the head by a batted ball. Ohlendorf was taken to a Denver hospital, where a CT scan was negative and it was determined he had a bad contusion with an abrasion.
Stephen Strasburg (P - WSH)

7/28/10 - Strasburg will be shut down for the next few days. He's tentatively scheduled to pitch Sunday against the Phillies.
Cole Hamels (P - PHI)

7/28/10 - Cole Hamels, got into a litle trouble in the first inning, but was still in line for the win until the bullpen blew it. Hamels limited the Diamondbacks to 3 ER on 6 hits while striking out 8 over 5 innings for the no-decision. Hamels left after 5 as his pitch count was at 108 thanks to a 30+ pitch 1st inning. Hamels, 7-7 with a 3.48 ERA, will pitch at Washington Sunday.
Jayson Werth (OF - PHI)

7/28/10 - Jayson Werth continues to come around at the plate. Werth went 2-3 with a big HR, 2 rbi's and a run scored as the Phillies won for the 6th game in a row. Werth has 8 hits in the last 6 games, is batting .289 and has 14 HR's, 54 rbi's and 7 sb's.
Ryan Howard (1B - PHI)

7/28/10 - NL All-Star Ryan Howard came back in a big way after losing his 11 game hitting streak. Howard went 2-4 with another big HR off a lefthanded reliever. Howard is batting .302 with 23 HR's, 81 rbi's and 1 stolen base.

7/28/10 - Raul Ibanez extended his hit streak to 6 games Tuesday. Ibanez went 2-4 with an rbi and 2 runs scored and has 9 hits over the last 6 games. Ibanez is batting .260 with 8 HR's, 48 rbi's and 3 sb's.

Shane Victorino (OF - PHI)

7/28/10 - Shane Victorino, batting in the leadoff spot while Jimmy Rollins rests his foot, may also miss some time. Victorino went 2-4 with a run scored and a stolen base but came out of the game after making a catch. It is believed he strained his oblique but will be looked at Wednesday. Victorino is batting .250 with 15 HR's, 53 rbi's and 20 sb's.
Juan Castro (SS/2B - LAD)

7/28/10 - The Dodgers have re-signed utility infielder Juan Castro to a Minor League contract, and he has reported to the club's Camelback Ranch-Glendale complex in Arizona.
The 38-year-old Castro was released by Philadelphia on July 17. He signed with the Phillies as a free agent after spending the 2009 season with the Dodgers as the backup shortstop. That was his second stint with the Dodgers, having originally signed with the club in 1991 and playing parts of his first five Major League seasons in Los Angeles.
Huston Street (P - COL)

7/28/10 - Huston Street, who was hospitalized after being struck by a line drive during batting practice Tuesday, was diagnosed with a right abdominal contusion. Street is "at home, resting comfortably," according to the team, and is availability is currently listed as day-to-day. That's wonderful news, considering the scary scene at Coors Field earlier this afternoon

7/28/10 - Rockies starter Jorge De La Rosa pitched well against the Pirates in a loss, with eight strikeouts, two walks, and two earned runs in seven innings Tuesday night.
Brad Hawpe (OF - COL)

7/28/10 - Brad Hawpe returned to the Rockies lineup with two hits and a home run Tuesday night against the Pirates.
Aaron Cook (P - COL)

7/28/10 - Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Rockies are "quietly shopping" right-hander Aaron Cook.

7/28/10 - Chris Coghlan is scheduled to get more opinions on his left knee before opting for surgery.

7/28/10 - Jorge Cantu was out of Tuesday's starting lineup against the Giants. Marlins interim manager Edwin Rodriguez benched Jorge Cantu out of concern over poor defense.
Dan Uggla (2B - FLA)

7/28/10 - Dan Uggla would like to remain with the Marlins long-term. Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post reports that the Marlins have begun internal discussions about a contract extension for Dan Uggla.
Jorge Cantu (1B/3B - FLA)

7/28/10 - Tracy Ringolsby of FOXSports.com reports that the Rockies "continue to talk" with the Marlins about infielder Jorge Cantu. Like the Rangers, who also have interest in Cantu, the Rockies are looking for a right-handed run-producer. Cantu has hit .260/.308/.410 this season with 10 home runs and 54 RBI in 366 at-bats. Moving him would allow the Marlins to free up playing time for recently-recalled prospect Logan Morrison.
Chris Coghlan (OF - FLA)

7/28/10 - Marlins placed OF Chris Coghlan on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 26, with a torn left meniscus.
Coghlan suffered the injury while celebrating Wes Helms' walkoff home run on Sunday and will visit a few doctors before deciding whether to have surgery. Either way, he's likely to miss at least six weeks. Logan Morrison has been promoted from Triple-A New Orleans and will split time in left field with Emilio Bonifacio. Coghlan will leave behind a .268/.335/.383 batting line.
