Kyle Drabek (P - TOR)

3/12/10 - Drabek was assigned to Toronto's minor league camp. He is expected to begin the season at either AA or AAA.
Scot Shields (P - LAA)

3/12/10 - Shields pitched in his first game since undergoing surgery on June 16 to repair the patella tendon in his left knee. He last appeared in a game on May 26. He gave up a single to A.J. Pierzynski on his first pitch today, then he regrouped to throw a scoreless inning. He says that he's not even thinking about his knee.
Fausto Carmona (P - CLE)

3/12/10 - Carmona had good command while pitching three scoreless innings and giving up only one hit in Cactus League activity today.
Asdrubal Cabrera (SS/2B - CLE)

3/12/10 - Cabrera left today's Cactus League game with an injury in his upper left leg. He had just tripled to open the bottom of the fifth inning and injured the leg on a headfirst slide back to the bag on a pickoff attempt. He later walked to the Player Development Complex without a noticeable limp. Stay tuned.
Lance Berkman (1B - HOU)

3/12/10 - Berkman will undergo knee surgery and miss the next 2-4 weeks. He may still be ready for Opening day.
Carlos Beltran (OF - NYM)

3/12/10 - Beltran expects to begin playing in rehab games by early April. He is looking for a return by the end of April.
Jack Hannahan (3B - SEA)

3/12/10 - Hannahan will miss at least a week with a strained right groin. If the injury doesn't persist, he still figures to serve as the M's backup CI going into the regular season.
Jon Rauch (P - MIN)

3/12/10 - Twins skipper Ron Gardenhire indicated Pat Neshek is not in the running for the closer job at this point, which may mean that Jon Rauch's nice spring (3 perfect innings, 3K) could lead to him closing games heading into the regular season.
Pat Neshek (P - MIN)

3/12/10 - Twins manager Rod Gardenhire said that Pat Neshek still has "a ways to go" recovering from last year's Tommy John, and will not be considered for the team's closer going into the season.
Nick Blackburn (P - MIN)

3/12/10 - Blackburn's new 4-year, $14mil contract affirms him as a fixture in the Twins rotation for 2010 and beyond.
Cody Scarpetta (P - MIL)

3/12/10 - The Brewers optioned Scarpetta to A+ Brevard County, cutting their roster down to 53 players.
Desmond Jennings (OF - TB)

3/12/10 - Jennings suffered a wrist injury Monday and will be out of action for 5-7 days. After that, he is expected to go to the Rays' minor league camp.
Coco Crisp (OF - OAK)

3/12/10 - Crisp is battling a hamstring injury and is listed as day-to-day. He has been relegated to DH so far this spring as he comes back from shoulder surgery and the hamstring injury will delay him playing the field until at least nect week.
Mike Napoli (C - LAA)

3/12/10 - Napoli is having a great Spring Training camp. He doubled and homered in his first two at-bats yesterday. He has gone 5-for-11 with three HR and three RBI in five games this spring.
Joe Blanton (P - PHI)

3/12/10 - Joe Blanton looked good in his second spring outing Thursday. Blanton limited the Tigers to 3 hits over 4 innings for the win. Blanton has been working on fastballs and changeups so far this spring and the results have been good.
Raul Ibanez (OF - PHI)

3/12/10 - Raul Ibanez has been struggling this spring but had a nice game Thursday. Ibanez went 1-4 but had his first HR and RBI on the spring. Ibanez is batting only .150 but should be ready to go when the regular season starts.
Chase Utley (2B - PHI)

3/12/10 - Chase Utley remains hot early on this spring. Utley went 2-3 Thursday with an rbi, his first of the spring. Utley is batting .545 so far this spring.
Shane Victorino (OF - PHI)

3/12/10 - Shane Victorino batted leadoff and continues to get ready for the regular season. Victorino went 2-3 with a couple of singles and is batting .300 on the spring.
Ronald Belisario (P - LAD)

3/12/10 - The Los Angeles Dodgers are looking into contingency plans for their opening-day bullpen while Ronald Belisario tries to report to camp.
Belisario has been unable to secure a visa for the 2010 season and remains in his native Venezuela. The right-hander went 4-3 with a 2.04 ERA in 69 games as a rookie last year, helping Los Angeles win the NL West.
Belisario had the same issue last year and missed two weeks of camp before being a surprise late addition to the major league roster.
The Dodgers are not frustrated enough to consider releasing the hard-throwing reliever, but anger is clearly growing.
Brian Giles (OF - FA)

3/12/10 - Brian Giles' right knee didn't feel right, so the veteran outfielder did what felt right.
Giles, 39, announced his retirement Thursday morning, a month after having signed a Minor League contract with the Dodgers in hopes of resuscitating an All-Star career.
He leaves behind a trail of honors ( two All-Star selections), accomplishments, a reputation as a hard-nosed retro player and a legion of admirers among former teammates.
