Toronto Gold Glove OF Varsho makes stunning, backhanded catch in season debut against Boston. Daulton Varsho and his Gold Glove defense are back in the Toronto Blue Jays’ outfield. Hours after being activated off the injured list, Varsho turned in a highlight-reel catch at the base of the wall in center field in his season debut. Varsho was retreating to the wall in center on a one-out drive by Boston’s Jarren Duran in the fourth inning Tuesday night when he lost his balance as he reached the warning track, falling and rolling over. Able to get back up on one knee — and with his back turned to home plate — Varsho had the presence of mind to stick out his glove and make a remarkable catch.

LaMonte Wade Jr. reached out across the plate and made solid contact with a slider that would have been ball three, lining it down the left field line. As two Giants started racing home, San Diego Padres catcher Elias Diaz dropped his head and smacked the dirt with his fist. For San Francisco, it was a familiar scene. The only bullpen better than San Francisco's is San Diego's, and while the Giants did threaten when right-hander Nick Pivetta initially exited the game, they went down in order in the final three innings, striking out four times.

Adolis Garcia and Wyatt Langford both had a three-RBI double in the sixth inning as the Texas Rangers broke out of their scoring slump in a huge way in a 15-2 win over the Athletics on Tuesday in the second of a four-game American League West series in Arlington, Texas. The collective sigh that was heard out of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex was created by the Rangers' highest scoring game of the season - by far. Texas' biggest scoring output of 2025 had come in an 8-5 win versus the Athletics on the road on April 22; the Rangers matched that in just the sixth inning when they stepped on home plate eight times, breaking open a contest they already led 4-0 before waltzing to the win.

If Walker Jenkins is going to rise fast through the Minnesota Twins' farm system, he's going to need his ankle to start cooperating. On Tuesday, the Twins revealed negative news on the club's No. 1 prospect, saying Jenkins will be out through at least the end of May due to lingering ankle soreness. Jenkins received a cortisone injection in his left ankle — the ankle that he sprained during spring training and then played two games and had eight at-bats at Double-A Wichita before being shut down because of discomfort in the ankle. Jenkins missed the first two months of last season at Class A after suffering a hamstring injury on Opening Day.

Dodgers' bullpen has been tasked with a lot of heavy lifting so far. An already taxed Dodgers bullpen was asked to handle nine more innings on Tuesday night, adding to its workload as the busiest in the major leagues this season. Officially, the innings put in by left-hander Jack Dreyer will count in their total for the team's starters since the rookie “opened” the game on the mound. Add that to the busy postseason the Dodgers' relievers had in October and the level of concern is rising for what has proven to be a dependable group of pitchers. “When you start talking about World Series stuff, or going into the World Series, guys did some really heavy lifting,” pitching coach Mark Prior said.

Seiya Suzuki hit a two-run homer and fell a single short of the cycle as the Chicago Cubs went deep four times in a 9-0 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night. Shota Imanaga (3-1) gave up six hits with three strikeouts in five scoreless innings before leaving with leg cramps after a leadoff double from Andrew McCutchen in the sixth. Suzuki followed an RBI single from Kyle Tucker with his seventh homer of the season, pushing the lead to 7-0 in the seventh inning.

Diamondbacks robbed of hit after hit by Mets defense. Arizona Diamondbacks Randal Grichuk, Lourdes Gurriel Jr. and Eugenio Suarez smoked three baseballs over 100 mph in spots where at least two must've fallen or gotten through, right? Instead, the New York Mets' defense executed three straight highlight plays to gift David Peterson an unlikely 1-2-3 fourth frame. New York led 7-0 at the time, and three straight D-backs hits would have at least cut into that lead and gotten something going. The Mets defeated the Diamondbacks 8-3 to open a three-game series at Citi Field.

Phillies Notebook: Power still a drain, but make it three straight wins. Confident a five-game losing streak was indeed behind them, the Phillies were back home again Tuesday night seeking to finish the first full month of the season on a high note. Having allowed the Miami Marlins to sneak away with a sweep-preventing 7-5 victory at Citizens Bank Park on April 20, the Phillies promptly hit the road and were swept by the first-place Mets, then blanked last Friday in the series opener in Chicago. “We kind of got exposed a little bit,” Trea Turner said Tuesday before a series opener against the Washington Nationals. Indeed the Phillies bounced back in Chicago, taking down the hot Cubs on Saturday and Sunday night.

One of those moves before the season was selecting former Detroit Tigers infielding prospect Gage Workman from the Rule 5 draft. Struggles of Texas Rangers New First Baseman Look Worse As Former Star Shines. The Texas Rangers made a change at first base this offseason and the early returns have been mixed, while their former star player is doing great on his new team. One of the first major moves that the Rangers made this offseason was sending over a haul of prospects to the Miami Marlins for third baseman/designated hitter Jake Burger. With Burger on the roster and able to play first base, they decided to move on from Nathaniel Lowe and trade him to the Washington Nationals. Former Boston Red Sox outfielder Alex Verdugo has been making the most of his latest big league opportunity, now as a member of the Atlanta Braves. Verdugo spent most of free agency with cricket-silent interest generated after the 28-year-old's one-year run with the New York Yankees. Minimal traction took off with the Kansas City Royals and Pittsburgh Pirates linked to Verdugo, which allowed the Braves to swoop in and take a flier on a one-year minor league contract with Verdugo. Thirty and thankful: Tigers' Zach McKinstry gets special birthday recognition. Zach McKinstry turned 30 years old on Tuesday, but the Detroit Tigers utility man didn't just celebrate with a postgame cupcake. McKinstry was named the first “Most Valuable Philanthropist” of the 2025 season by the Players Trust, the charitable arm of the MLB Players Association. The recognition comes with a $10,000 grant to support McKinstry's work with various charities, including BBQ Mission, a Phoenix-based nonprofit that serves meals and spiritual support to the homeless. Is Breakout Finally Coming for Detroit Tigers Star Riley Greene?. The Detroit Tigers entered Monday's action with the best record in the American League. Little things came back to hurt Detroit in a manner that hasn't been seen in a while. The Seattle Mariners offense has surprisingly been one of the best in baseball through the first month of the season. Seattle is also fourth in on-base percentage (.336) and fifth in OPS (.748). It's a far cry from last season, when Seattle led baseball in strikeouts and was 29th in batting average at .229. Twins get season-high 17 hits, Bailey Ober allows 1 run in 7 2/3 innings in 11-1 rout of Guardians. Jonah Bride had three of Minnesota's 17 hits, Bailey Ober allowed one run in 7 2/3 innings and the Minnesota Twins rolled to an 11-1 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Monday night. Minnesota had 10 players with hits, the first time the Twins had done that since last June against the Athletics.

Detroit Tigers' Massive Bright Spot Provides Unlikely Offensive Boost. It has been a great start to the season for the Detroit Tigers, who have exceeded expectations early on. Coming into the year, the Tigers have new-found expectations after not only making the playoffs last campaign, but winning a series and coming within one game of making the American League Championship Series. Detroit was very active in free agency, bringing in multiple veterans to help out. For the pitching staff, notable additions like Jack Flaherty gave them a front-line starter to pair with Tarik Skubal, and Tommy Kahnle has been a great weapon late in games out of the bullpen.

Twins rout Guardians, win 4th straight. The Minnesota Twins are playing their best baseball of the season currently. It may be young in the 2025 campaign, but the Twins have won their last four games, and six of their last seven. In last nights game against Cleveland, the Twins got the scoring going from the jump scoring two runs in the first and second inning. They would go on to score two more in the fifth, three in the sixth and two in the eighth on their way to the 11-1 rout. Bailey Ober was credited the win, his third of the season. The Atlanta Braves haven't reached the World Series since winning it in 2021, but they're trying to recapture the magic of that season with the return of pitcher Ian Anderson and outfielder Eddie Rosario. Atlanta brought back two key members of that title run this week in time to open a three-game series against the Colorado Rockies in Denver on Monday night. The Braves posted a 6-3 victory for their eighth win in 10 games. Astros turn to Ryan Gusto in bid for series win vs. Tigers. The Houston bullpen entered this three-game series with the Detroit Tigers leading the American League with a 2.64 ERA, and when the need arose to protect a slim margin, Astros relievers again answered the bell. Aside from reliever Kaleb Ort, who allowed a two-run home run to Detroit's Riley Greene while making his season debut, the Astros received another lights-out performance from their bullpen in an 8-5 win on Monday. Steven Okert, Bryan King, Bryan Abreu and closer Josh Hader combined to work three innings of scoreless relief and allowed one hit and one walk with five strikeouts.
