11/04/24 Seattle Mariners Outfielder Officially Exercises Player Option. The MLB deadline for players and teams to exercise options was at 2 p.m. PT on Monday. There was speculation from fans over why Haniger hadn't chosen to opt-in, considering it was unlikely he would earn $17.5 million in 2025 in free agency. As it turns out, Haniger did exercise his option.

9/30/24 How Seattle Mariners can approach contracts of struggling vets. After missing the playoffs in a disappointing fashion for a second straight season, the Seattle Mariners are once again entering a pivotal offseason in their window of contention. At or near the top of that list is what they will do with the contracts of struggling veterans Mitch Haniger and Mitch Garver, who both turn 34 this offseason. Haniger has a $17.5 million player option for 2025, per Spotrac, that he is expected to exercise. Garver is owed $12.5 million for the second year of a deal that includes a $12 million mutual option for 2026.

Don't look now, but for the last two weeks Seattle Mariners outfielder Mitch Haniger has looked like the Mitch Haniger who has stepped to the plate in big situations so many times in his Mariners career and had the look of a guy who could do damage. “He said it about 10 days ago, I'm about to get hot,” said Scott Servais following the Mariners' 6-5 series clinching win over the Phillies on Saturday. Over the past two weeks Haniger, who posted a .570 OPS in May and .601 in June, has run an OPS of 1.005 with a wRC+ of 186. In his walk-off interview on the field following the win Saturday, Haniger pointed to changes he recently made as leading to what he is doing at the plate currently.
