8/20/25 Willi Castro, Cubs look to take long series against Brewers. After making up two games of ground in a day against their National League Central rivals, the Chicago Cubs will look to take the five-game series against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers on Wednesday night. Chicago beat Milwaukee 6-4 and then 4-1 to sweep a day-night doubleheader on Tuesday but still sits seven games behind the MLB-leading Brewers in the NL Central. 8/06/25 New Chicago Cubs utility man is already channeling a 2016 World Series hero. The Cubs acquired Willi Castro to play all over the field, and he's taken that role literally through his first four games. Although the Chicago Cubs fell short in the Eugenio Suarez sweepstakes at the trade deadline, they still made out well by landing utility man Willi Castro.

8/05/25 New Cubs Star Willi Castro Shows Versatility, Matches Century-Old Record. Willi Castro was a coveted player at the trade deadline for his ability to hit right-handed and left-handed pitching, along with his versatility. The Chicago Cubs felt they needed more help in the utility department and pounced on Castro when the Minnesota Twins made him available. The Cubs gave up two minor league pitchers — right-handers Ryan Gallagher and Sam Armstrong — for the right to have Castro on the field for the next two months. On Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds, Castro started in right field and batted fifth in the order.

8/01/25 Cubs $16 million slugger is expected to leave in free agency after deadline moves. The 2025 Major League Baseball Trade Deadline has come and gone. The Chicago Cubs, who are sitting with one of the best records in the MLB, had an underwhelming deadline. Chicago wasn't as aggressive as other teams and added a utility player in Willi Castro and a couple of average pitchers in Michael Soroka and Andrew Kittredge. The Cubs' moves will likely not put them over the top this season, which could come back to hurt them over the next few years.

7/31/25 Sources: Twins trade Will Castro to Cubs for prospects. The Chicago Cubs acquired super utility man Willi Castro from the Minnesota Twins for two prospects, sources confirmed to ESPN. Castro, 28, has played six positions for Minnesota this season -- seven if you count an inning on the mound -- mostly splitting time equally at second, left and right field. Castro is likely see time at third base for Chicago, especially when there is a tough righty on the mound as he'll split time there with rookie Matt Shaw. Castro is joining his third team after starting his career in Detroit then playing the last three seasons for the Twins.

7/28/25 Willi Castro bidding war? Astros among interested teams, insider says. Willi Castro may be in his final days with the Twins, who have dropped six of nine games since the All-Star break to reinforce the notion that selling before Thursday's MLB trade deadline is the right move for a meandering Minnesota club. According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic (subscription required), the Houston Astros have shown interest in both Arizona slugger Eugenio Suárez and Castro as they look to fill holes on a roster that has been ravaged by injuries. "Suárez may be the sexier name," Rome says, "but Minnesota Twins utilityman Willi Castro is also of interest to the Astros and a far better fit for their roster."

7/25/25 Former MLB exec wants to see blockbuster Twins-Dodgers trade. Imagine a world where the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series. But they don't just win it, they seal the deal with a go-ahead hit from Willi Castro while Griffin Jax slams the door on the American League champ before Jhoan Duran strikes out the side in the ninth and jumps into catcher Will Smith's arms as fireworks explode over Dodger Stadium. That sickening hypothetical would be possible if former MLB executive Jim Bowden's dream trade between the Twins and Dodgers comes to life. In a piece for The Athletic (subscription required), Bowden proposed a trade that would send Duran, Jax and Castro to Los Angeles for 20-year-old outfielder Josue De Paula, left-handed pitcher Jackson Ferris, right-hander

7/23/25 MLB rumors: Mariners linked to Twins trade as Eugenio Suarez backup plan. As the July 31 trade deadline draws near, the Seattle Mariners find themselves in a familiar but urgent position — postseason contenders with a glaring need for offensive reinforcement at the corners. With Arizona Diamondbacks' 3B Eugenio Suárez generating interest across the league, the Mariners may need a backup plan. Enter Minnesota utilityman Willi Castro. Per New York Post's Jon Heyman, Castro is on the Twins' list of potential trade chips, and Seattle is among the teams showing interest. A pending free agent, Castro has quietly been one of Minnesota's most versatile and productive players, slashing .280/.379/.495 since mid-May while playing all over the diamond — including third base, where Seattle is desperate for a jolt.
