Five Omaha pitchers combined to hold the St. Paul Saints to four hits while striking out 12 in a 6-0 win Wednesday night at CHS Field, keeping St. Paul from its first three-game winning streak of the season. Storm Chasers starting pitcher Luis Cessa allowed two hits and struck out out five with one walk over five innings, and he was followed by an equally dominant stretch of relievers: Walter Pennington (one inning, one hit, three strikeouts), Evan Sisk (one inning, no hits, one strikeout), Carlos Hernandez (one inning, one hit, two strikeouts) and Will Klein (one inning, 0 hits, one strikeout). 8/31/23 Nationals cut ties with former Detroit Tigers pitcher. Luis Cessa is back on the open market after being released by the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. The former Detroit Tigers pitcher has bounced around the league this year spending time with the Nationals, Cincinnati Reds and Colorado Rockies, but is now a free agent. Cessa began the season as a starter with the Reds but lasted just six starts and had a 1-4 record with a 9.00 ERA before being designated for assignment and ultimately released on May 14.

5/16/23 Ex-Yankees, Mets pitcher gets released. Luis Cessa has been released. The former Yankees pitcher was cut by the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, a week after the club designated him for assignment, according to The Athletic's C. Trent Rosecrans . The 31-year-old right-hander can now sign for any MLB team that wants to take a chance on him. In 26 innings pitched for the Reds this season, Cessa gave up 26 earned runs on 46 hits and 12 walks, managing just 11 strikeouts in seven appearances (six starts). The disastrous 9.00 ERA left Cincinnati with no choice but to cut him. The club also placed left-hander Reiver Sanmartin on the 15-day injured list with a left elbow stress reaction before starting a home series with the New York Mets. 5/09/23 Cincinnati Reds designate Luis Cessa for assignment in odd series of roster moves. The New York Yankees gave righty Luis Cessa ample opportunity to show his stuff as a starting pitcher early in his career, eventually settling in on the idea that he was an effective reliever. Mid-year last season, though, the Reds turned back to Cessa to help fill out a starting rotation that had been decimated by trades of established starters, a role he was once again asked to fill at the start of 2023 as the frugal Reds continued to operate in the most austere of fashions. Cessa was shelled early and often, and the entirety of the operation drew into question the offseason strategy of keeping him in the rotation mix despite him being a part of Team Mexico in the World Baseball Classic in a non-rotation role.

4/11/23 It's Luis Cessa's turn to shut down the Atlanta Braves offense. The last time we watched Luis Cessa in a Cincinnati Reds uniform, he walked off the mound in Great American Ball Park having retired Chicago Cubs hitters sixteen separate times while the Reds held a 3-1 lead. As injuries decimated the rest of the rotation options around him for the second straight season, he's become not just a fill-in, but a serious part of the Reds plans to get 27 outs about 162 times this season somehow, some way.

4/04/23 From Erik the Red to Jonny the Red. The Cincinnati Reds needed an edge, some fire to help define what it is they're up to this season. Such is the case when a roster is assembled with a good bit of talent but little individual track record, let alone team track record to speak of. Enter the Viking garb. With each home run this season comes a Viking helmet and cape, an idea spawned by pitcher Luis Cessa in the wake of Norseman Jake Fraley's homer-laden finish to the 2022 season, as MLB.com's Mark Sheldon relayed last week.
