5/08/25 Cardinals' Ryan Helsley could be trade deadline's most coveted closer. Jon Heyman Cardinals' Ryan Helsley could be trade deadline's most coveted closer By Jon Heyman Published May 8, 2025, 8:08 p.m. ET Ryan Helsley of the St. Louis Cardinals pitches against the Milwaukee Brewers. Getty Images The best reliever available is expected to be Cardinals closer Ryan Helsley, who's a free agent after the year. The 100-mph-throwing Helsley is employing a curve more. As for lefty relievers, the trade supply is almost nil. The Mets' signing of Brooks Raley is especially prescient with Danny Young and excellent A.J. Minter officially out for the year. The pitching injuries are getting crazy but aren't evenly divided. The Cardinals, who sometimes employ a six-man rotation to

5/07/25 Cardinals $81 million All-Star closer linked to Tigers in possible blockbuster. The St. Louis Cardinals are playing better baseball as of late, having won four consecutive games and moved to within a game of the .500 mark. At 18-19, St. Louis is just four games out of first place in the weak National League Central. This means they could ultimately sell at the trade deadline. Should they go that route, closer Ryan Helsley is their biggest trade chip.

5/06/25 Red Sox Mentioned As Surprise Landing Spot For 'Best Closer In All Of Baseball'. The Boston Red Sox were linked to a surprise trade target on Tuesday. As Boston evaluates its trade needs heading into the summer, the closer position isn't at the top of the list, but it's something to monitor. The Red Sox might check in about Ryan Helsley (as will plenty of other teams), but Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller linked another All-Star closer to Boston. “Trading away maybe the best closer in all of baseball while right in the thick of a playoff push would certainly be an unorthodox decision,” Miller wrote.

5/04/25 Phillies Should Monitor Availability Of Ex-Red Sox Reliever: 'Looks Terrific'. Count the Philadelphia Phillies among possible suitors for a former Boston Red Sox All-Star reliever. Philly is getting great production from 29-year-old José Alvarado in the closer role so far in 2025. Entering Sunday, Alvarado was 3-0 on the year with a 1.72 ERA, 22 strikeouts, and six saves in 15 appearances (15 2/3 innings pitched). If Philadelphia could pull off a deal for a marquee closer like St. Louis Cardinals' Ryan Helsley, the Phillies would be able to move Alvarado into a setup man role, where he'd likely excel.

5/02/25 Cardinals Trade Of All-Star Closer Is A Matter Of When, Not If. The St. Louis Cardinals are struggling to start the 2025 season. One player who could be dealt is Ryan Helsley. Mark Powell of FanSided noted that it seems all but inevitable Helsley is traded this summer. Helsley is sure to be one of the best relief pitchers available on the open market come the trade deadline, and as much as he might want to remain in St. Louis, the Cards are a team without much direction.

5/01/25 Cardinals $44 million left-hander considered a potential trade chip. After a 14-17 start to the 2025 season, the St. Louis Cardinals are trending towards selling at the trade deadline. The only saving grace for St. Louis has been their starting rotation, which leads the Major Leagues in quality starts. The main candidates are Ryan Helsley, Phil Maton and Erick Fedde, but another one may have emerged this week.

4/29/25 Cardinals' Helsley emerges as trade target for three teams. Ryan Helsley trade talk has been abundant since last off-season, and it's only starting to heat up in 2025. The St. Louis Cardinals closer is in the final year of his contract, and given the team's stance and play, Helsley could be a candidate for St. Louis to unload in exchange for prospects or more affordable bullpen help. According to MLB Trade Rumors, the Arizona Diamondbacks and Philadelphia Phillies have shown interest in Helsley, citing a report from USA Today baseball writer Bob Nightengale.

4/28/25 Cardinals 'Holding Back' Two-Time All-Star, Says MLB Writer. The St. Louis Cardinals have certainly had an up-and-down start to the 2025 Major League Baseball season. Through 28 games the Cardinals have a 12-16 record and are in fourth place in the National League Central behind the Chicago Cubs, Cincinnati Reds, and Milwaukee Brewers. The Cardinals have won two out of their last three games, though. For example, FanSided's Scott Plaza suggested that the team is "holding back" All-Star closer Ryan Helsley.

4/24/25 MLB writer declares Cardinals All-Star closer's trade stock has risen. The St. Louis Cardinals are not off to a good start in 2025. The bullpen has been the main issue for St. Louis after being their greatest strength in 2024. If they can't right the ship and bounce back into contention, they might end up selling at the trade deadline. Two-time All-Star closer Ryan Helsley is their biggest trade chip.

4/23/25 Former Red Sox All-Star Called 'Potential Solution' For Rangers Via Trade. The Texas Rangers are leading the American League West right now, but trading for a former Boston Red Sox pitcher could put them over the top. Texas entered Wednesday with an impressive 14-9 record on the season, giving them a two-game lead in the division over the Seattle Mariners. As the Rangers look ahead to July's trade deadline, acquiring a closer is likely to be a priority, as noted by Bleacher Report's Kerry Miller in a recent piece. Miller suggested three arms for Texas who could be available: St. Louis Cardinals' Ryan Helsley, Washington Nationals' Kyle Finnegan, and Los Angeles Angels' Kenley Jansen.

4/21/25 Cardinals trade idea sends $81 million All-Star closer to Dodgers. The 2025 season has not exactly started off with a bang for the St. Louis Cardinals. Since sweeping their first series of the season, they have gone 6-13 and now sit four games out of first place in the National League Central. This year was meant to be more a transitional year for St. Louis as opposed to one where they would look to contend. Jon Conahan of Athlon Sports proposed the idea of St. Louis trading All-Star closer Ryan Helsley to the Los Angeles Dodgers at the deadline.

4/20/25 Cardinals' $81 Million Star Linked To Yankees In Shocking Trade. The St. Louis Cardinals could explore the idea of trading their closer, Ryan Helsley, this season. Helsley is in the final year of his contract and it's unlikely the Cardinals will be able to re-sign him in the offseason. Helsley could fit in with a lot of different teams this season. Kristie Ackert of Athlon Sports recently linked Helsley to the New York Yankees in a blockbuster trade because the Yankees have seen quite a lot of issues from the backend of their bullpen this year.

4/17/25 Cardinals All-Star closer predicted to join Team USA in 2026 WBC. The St. Louis Cardinals are 9-9 after their first 18 games of the season and have performed much better than originally anticipated thus far. In the offseason, they chose to hold onto closer Ryan Helsley despite the two-time All-Star receiving a lot of trade interest. The World Baseball Classic makes its return next spring. Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer predicts that Helsley will be a part of Team USA.

4/16/25 Cardinals trade idea sends $8.2 million All-Star closer to Braves. The St. Louis Cardinals are off to somewhat of a slow start in 2025. This year, they are not expected to be a strong contender. As such, the Cardinals may sell off a few pieces at the trade deadline if they fall out of the mix by then. One piece that could be on the move is All-Star closer Ryan Helsley.

4/15/25 Blockbuster trade scenario sends Cardinals All-Star closer to Red Sox. The St. Louis Cardinals sit at the .500 mark after their first 16 games of the 2025 season. One piece that will generate a ton of interest is All-Star closer Ryan Helsley. Zach Pressnell of Newsweek proposed the idea of St. Louis sending him to the Boston Red Sox for prospects Franklin Arias and Jhostynxon Garcia.

4/15/25 Red Sox trade pitch would bring $81 million All-Star to Boston. The Boston Red Sox could be on the hunt for bullpen upgrades around the trade deadline. Ryan Helsley will be a free agent after the season, and the St. Louis Cardinals may be looking to turn him into prospects.

4/10/25 Cardinals blockbuster trade idea sends 2x All-Star closer to Rangers. The St. Louis Cardinals are off to a slow start, owning a 5-7 record through their first 12 games. If their struggles continue, it's highly likely that they will be sellers at the trade deadline. One of the players that could be traded is All-Star closer Ryan Helsley. Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report predicts that the Texas Rangers could be in the running for him.
