9/04/25 | 2 free agents Orioles must pursue in offseason. The Baltimore Orioles took a huge step back this season. The letdown of a year was caused largely in part because the Orioles were unwilling to spend last offseason. The team let both their ace, Corbin Burnes, and their best home-run hitter, Anthony Santander, walk in free agency. The Orioles can't afford to pinch pennies again. 8/21/25 | SB Nation Reacts Results: Who’s to blame?. There’s no denying, 2025 has been a very disappointing season for the Diamondbacks and their fans. Coming off an 89-win season, adding major signings like Corbin Burnes, and with the largest payroll in franchise history, expectations were high. But a poor May (a record of 11-17) and dreadful July (9-16) crushed expectations of challenging for […] Source: https://sports.yahoo.com/article/sb-nation-reacts-... |
8/12/25 | Injured Ace Gives Message to Diamondbacks' Draft Class. Arizona Diamondbacks ace starting pitcher Corbin Burnes might be recovering from Tommy John Surgery, but that isn't stopping him from staying close to the organization in his downtime. Arizona's $210-million offseason signing made just 11 starts for the D-backs before landing on the IL with the elbow injury that would ultimately require surgery. Burnes threw to a 2.66 ERA in those 11 starts. Despite beginning the year slowly, he had begun to firmly round back into the Cy Young-winning starter the D-backs were hoping to get. 8/12/25 | D-backs' Corbin Burnes Opens up on Brutal Recovery from Injury. On June 1, the complexion of the Arizona Diamondbacks' starting rotation changed. Ace right-hander Corbin Burnes walked off the field next to a trainer with the first severe elbow injury of his career. Burnes underwent Tommy John Surgery, sealing the books on his 2025 season and likely most of the upcoming 2026 season. Despite that harsh reality, Burnes has remained close to the team — at least, as much as possible. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/diamondbacks/arizona-diamon... |
8/07/25 | Brewers Could Soon Lose 29-Year-Old Two-Time All-Star, MLB Writer Warns. It's been a fantastic season for the Brewers, and by all means, fans should focus on the action on the field. In the past two offseasons, the Brewers traded former Cy Young Award winner Corbin Burnes and two-time National League Reliever of the Year Devin Williams. Freddy Peralta, the 29-year-old starting pitcher who made his second All-Star team for the Brewers this year, will enter the last year of his contract in 2026, an $8 million club option that will be a no-brainer for Milwaukee to exercise. 8/06/25 | Have the Orioles found their ace of the future?. The Baltimore Orioles' 2025 season has been a disaster, largely due to the complete collapse of the starting rotation. Baltimore's failure to re-sign Corbin Burnes during the offseason or find starting pitchers to make up for that loss has resulted in a 4.87 team ERA, the fourth-worst in MLB. In particular, the rotation has a 4.96 ERA (26th in the majors), which effectively doomed the team from the start and resulted in the Orioles becoming a major seller at the trade deadline. In his 10 starts this season, Rogers has been nothing short of magnificent. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/orioles/news/have-the-oriol... |
7/26/25 | Job of Orioles Boss 'Could Be in Jeopardy' Depending on How Trade Deadline Goes. Mike Elias has done a tremendous job of getting the Baltimore Orioles to this current point. The ability of him and his baseball operations staff to identify and develop talent has been second to none during this stretch, and that ability created the opportunity for the Orioles to shock everyone in 2023 when they won 101 games and the AL East division after winning less than 55 contests in two out of the three full seasons prior to that year. In 2023, it was the rotation that wasn't ready for October, with the staff getting shelled to the point where they were easily discarded by the Texas Rangers in a three-game sweep. In 2024, after landing Corbin Burnes in an offseason trade to be their ace, it was limited offensive upside that came back to bite them. 7/23/25 | D-backs' Brandon Pfaadt Looks to Avoid Devastating Sweep vs Astros. The Arizona Diamondbacks lost their second straight to the Houston Astros on Tuesday night. Arizona is now 50-52 with just seven games to play before the trade deadline. Pfaadt is the latest D-backs starter to hope his recent success hasn't been a fluke. Pfaadt has shown exceptional command of his trademark sweeper of late, and has been working with injured ace Corbin Burnes to develop and integrate a cutter into his arsenal. 7/20/25 | Diamondbacks' Corbin Burnes expects to return next season. Arizona Diamondbacks ace Corbin Burnes has never gone through an elongated injury recovery before, but he is making an effort to stay involved where he can. Burnes said he is watching every game, and not having to worry about his next start for another 12-14 months (by his estimation) allows him to see the game a bit differently when watching his teammates, particularly the pitchers. 7/11/25 | ESPN midseason grades: Diamondbacks middle of the road. As the saying goes, “C's get degrees.” But does that apply to the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2025? With MLB All-Star weekend closing in, ESPN's David Schoenfield handed out his midseason grades. The D-backs earned a C. One of the biggest reasons behind the middle-of-the-road grade? Arizona's starting pitching woes. After the aggressive move to sign Corbin Burnes, he went down with Tommy John surgery after 11 starts. Meanwhile, Zac Gallen, Eduardo Rodriguez and Brandon Pfaadt each have an ERA on the wrong side of 5.00. Rodriguez was better in June before a shellacking on July 4, while Gallen remains homer-prone, so it's hard to tell if improvement is on the horizon. 7/08/25 | Can Diamondbacks' Playoff Hopes Survive Amid Bullpen Injuries?. The Arizona Diamondbacks have suffered what appears to be an unprecedented level of major pitching injuries in their franchise history. Despite having the third best offense in the league, the D-backs are 4.5 out of the third NL Wild Card spot with four teams in front of them. The various websites that calculate playoff odds now give the D-backs between a 13% to 21% chance to make the playoffs. While Corbin Burnes going down with Tommy John surgery was a tremendous blow, Ryne Nelson has stepped in to fill that breach and been excellent. 7/08/25 | Brewers Blast Blockbuster Trade Pickup: 'Manager's Pissed'. The Milwaukee Brewers aren't afraid to trade stars away if they don't think they will end up sticking around on deals afterwards. Milwaukee traded Corbin Burnes to the Baltimore Orioles last year and Devin Williams to the New York Yankees this year. In the Burnes deal, Milwaukee acquired then-No. 63 overall prospect Joey Ortiz to help bolster the infield for years to come along with DL Hall. 7/07/25 | MLB Mock Blockbuster Trade: Milwaukee Brewers Deal Freddy Peralta to New York Mets. The Milwaukee Brewers are within reach of the first-placed Chicago Cubs in the National League Central. If Milwaukee follows the same formula it had with Corbin Burnes and Josh Hader, the team will trade right-hander Freddy Peralta before Opening Day 2026. 7/05/25 | Orioles Should Go After Athletics Pitcher To Upgrade Their Starting Rotation. Not having a viable starting rotation and bullpen has been a major reason why this team has performed in such a disappointing manner, with the idea of them competing for a World Series championship and division title ending virtually as soon as the season began. While they offered Corbin Burnes a contract that would have made him the highest-paid pitcher on an AAV basis in Major League Baseball history, they didn't do much to replace him when he decided to sign with the Arizona Diamondbacks instead. Because of that, this is looking like a lost year for the Orioles. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Athletics "are now open to trading" Luis Severino just half of a season into the three-year, $67 million contract he signed this past winter. 7/04/25 | Orioles' Grayson Rodriguez makes pivotal change to limit injury trouble. The Baltimore Orioles brought in multiple starters to replace Corbin Burnes this offseason. The Orioles lost their ace to the Arizona Diamondbacks, shifting the pressure onto Grayson Rodriguez. The third-year pro is perfectly capable of leading interim manager Tony Mansolino's starting rotation with Kyle Bradish and Zach Eflin. Unfortunately, Rodriguez has had to wait for months to make his 2025 debut. Source: https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/baltimore-orioles/ori... |
7/03/25 | Diamondbacks' Eugenio Suarez makes trade declaration amid rumors. The Arizona Diamondbacks could be big sellers at the MLB trade deadline. After adding Corbin Burnes in the offseason, they got off to a slow start and lost their ace to Tommy John surgery. The National League playoff picture is taking shape around them, and without a hot stretch, they will have to sell. Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez spoke about trade rumors swirling around him as the deadline approaches. Source: https://clutchpoints.com/mlb/arizona-diamondbacks/... |
7/02/25 | Diamondbacks bullpen spirals as the team struggles in NL West. Elite hitters, a manageable rotation even without former Cy Young Award-winning pitcher Corbin Burnes and a solid defense are not enough right now for the Diamondbacks. “It's unacceptable and embarrassing,” Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said before Monday's game the Giants. Shelby Miller appeared to respond to Lovullo's words by striking out two over 1.1 perfect innings to earn the save in Monday's 4-2 win over the Giants, after having had blown two of his last five save chances. 7/01/25 | Baltimore Orioles Dodged Massive Bullet Allowing All-Star Slugger to Leave. The Baltimore Orioles underwent some major changes with their roster this past offseason. Two 2024 All-Stars, starting pitcher Corbin Burnes and designated hitter Anthony Santander, hit the open market and departed as free agents. 6/25/25 | Arizona Diamondbacks fighting their way through a rash of injuries. The Arizona Diamondbacks have been snakebit all season. Injuries plagued the club in spring training and have continued to wreak havoc as the season reaches the midpoint, leaving manager Torey Lovullo searching for answers as he tries to cobble together a daily lineup. Arizona already lost pitchers Corbin Burnes, Jordan Montgomery, A.J. Puk and Justin Martinez to season-ending elbow injuries. Catcher Gabriel Moreno also is out with a broken finger. The Diamondbacks placed outfielder Corbin Carroll on the injured list with a broken wrist, then watched infielder Ildemaro Vargas go down with a broken foot. Arizona has managed to fight through the rash of injuries, winning 10 of 14 to move into the NL wild card race. Source: https://www.chron.com/sports/article/arizona-diamo... |
6/24/25 | Maligned Orioles Starter Trevor Rogers Has Career-Best Performance. There's always a risk when it comes to making trades, and Mike Elias and the Baltimore Orioles were firmly feeling that after last year's deadline heading into this season. With injuries mounting during the 2024 campaign and some underlying pressure existing to not waste the lone year of Corbin Burnes prior to him hitting free agency, the Orioles made two deals for starting pitchers; landing Zach Eflin from the Tampa Bay Rays and Trevor Rogers from the Miami Marlins. The first worked out great with Eflin getting off to a hart start during his Baltimore tenure. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/orioles/news/maligned-oriol... |
