10/31/24 Longtime Chicago Cubs Offseason Target Named 'Most Overrated' Free Agent. The Chicago Cubs have one goal this winter: to sign as many good players as possible in free agency. A few elite players on the market should find success no matter where they end up, which makes Chicago's job a bit easier if they were to land any of them. Among those could be Pete Alonso. Outside of maybe two or three hitters, there hasn't been a better power hitter in Major League Baseball since he debuted.

10/30/24 MLB rumors: Yankees' Juan Soto backup plan is signing Pete Alonso, ace. The Yankees are expected to face serious competition in their expected Soto free agency pursuit, though. Will the Yankees consider shifting their focus to Pete Alonso, who will also be a free agent, if Soto departs this offseason?

10/29/24 The pros and cons of Mets re-signing Pete Alonso in fascinating free agency that could take awhile. Joel Sherman The pros and cons of Mets re-signing Pete Alonso in fascinating free agency that could take awhile By Joel Sherman Published Oct. 29, 2024, 6:30 a.m. ET Charles Wenzelberg/New York Post Let me translate what Steve Cohen and David Stearns were saying this year in regards to Pete Alonso. They knew a Scott Boras client hardly ever signs before allowing the free market to determine his value and certainly was not going to sign for where the Mets had him valued. So why go through the futile and fruitless exercise of public posturing? I think the plan was for Cohen and Stearns to do nothing but throw public love letters at Alonso — we adore him, a true Met , want to keep him, etc. — while

10/28/24 Mets predicted to land $200 million superstar after Yankees 'let him walk'. Things are certainly looking up for the future of the New York Mets, but there's also lots of work to be done. The Mets defied the preseason odds to make it all the way to the National League Championship Series, drumming up tremendous enthusiasm for the overall direction of the franchise. Several key players, principally Pete Alonso, Sean Manaea, and Luis Severino, will become free agents. The Mets must determine the future of their most prolific power hitter and most of their starting rotation on the fly.

10/27/24 Mets' Potential Pete Alonso Replacement Called 2025 Superstar Candidate. One of the most pivotal parts of the New York Mets' upcoming offseason is figuring out what Pete Alonso's future will be. Alonso is going to be an unrestricted free agent. While it's clear that he has enjoyed his time in Queens, the common belief is that Alonso will go wherever offers him the most money. Regardless, Mets fans and the franchise will need to prepare for Alonso's potential exit and to potentially see someone else manning first base in 2025.

10/26/24 San Francisco Giants Linked to Sleeper First Base Target. The MLB offseason is closing in quickly and the San Francisco Giants are looking to be big-time players as they try to get back to being serious National League contenders. One area that they could look to improve is at first base. Looking at the free agency market, there are quite a few intriguing pieces at first base. Pete Alonso is a possibility, but his price tag could be a bit higher than the Giants are looking to pay.

10/25/24 What makes Pete Alonso's Mets value different than his other free-agent suitors. Jon Heyman MLB What makes Pete Alonso's Mets value different than his other free-agent suitors By Jon Heyman Published Oct. 25, 2024, 6:18 p.m. ET LOS ANGELES — Some rival executives say they believe free agent slugger Pete Alonso is ultimately worth more to the Mets than anyone else due to his exalted stature with fans. Mets owner Steve Cohen and agent Scott Boras were seen talking at length at the NLCS and the subject might have been Alonso (they aren't allowed to talk about Juan Soto yet). But early hints suggest the Mets may let Alonso look around before they present an updated offer . Pete Alonso's future is uncertain as he gets set to hit free agency. 10/24/24 Ex-Mets GM: Their two fan favorites aren't worth chasing in free agency. Among the potential 13 New York Mets free agents this offseason are two players who contributed heavily to their run to the NL Championship Series. SNY's Jim Duquette, the Mets' GM from 2003-04, threw some cold water on New York's appetite to keep first baseman Pete Alonso and starting pitcher Sean Manaea on Tuesday. Duquette rated both the lowest among the three other contributors.

10/23/24 New York Mets' David Stearns Makes Bold Claim With MLB Free Agency Approaching. The New York Mets came two wins shy of reaching the World Series this year, and while the fanbase has continued to applaud the team for its efforts, the front office doesn't appear to be resting on its laurels. First baseman Pete Alonso, starting pitcher Jose Quintana, starting pitcher Luis Severino, designated hitter J.D. Martinez, outfielder Jesse Winker, outfielder Harrison Bader, infielder Jose Iglesias, relief pitcher Ryne Stanek are all set to hit the open market in two week's time.

10/23/24 After thrilling season ends in NLCS, surprising Mets have `work to do'. Yes, the New York Mets have much to feel good about following a rousing run of unexpected success this season. Now, the cold reality: Pete Alonso's uncertain future is far from the only priority this winter. New York probably will have about a dozen free agents to replace — including Alonso — once contract options are decided, and the pitching staff is particularly thin at the moment. “We might look extremely different,” star shortstop Francisco Lindor said.

10/22/24 Pete Alonso rumors: Mets announcer's 'gut feeling' on where slugger signs. When it comes to decisions on their players this offseason, no one will be under more scrutiny for the New York Mets than Pete Alonso. While Alonso can still hit home runs at the rate of the best power hitters in the league, he also is a homegrown player with some nostalgic value, bringing an added element to this decision for president of baseball operations David Stearns. What will Alonso's future hold? SNY Mets play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen gave his early opinion on what will happen on the post-game show after the Game 6 loss in the NL Championship Series.

10/21/24 Mariners listed as top free agent fit for Mets $180 million superstar. The Seattle Mariners have an elite pitching staff that kept them in contention this season. In order to avoid missing the postseason for the third consecutive year, Seattle is going to have to address their offensive woes, particularly at the first base position. Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report listed them as a potential fit for slugger Pete Alonso. "If money is no object and we're solely talking about who most needs to add a slugger at first base the caliber of Pete Alonso, Seattle perhaps indisputably tops that list," Miller wrote.

10/20/24 Juan Soto's heroics are another reminder Jed Hoyer's Cubs' approach is wrong. There have been multiple occasions during the 2024 Major League Baseball postseason where Jed Hoyer's approach to constructing the Chicago Cubs' roster has proven to be wrong. One of the first examples of that was Pete Alonso's three-run home run against the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 3 of the National League Wild Card series. The latest example was Juan Soto's heroics in Game 5 of the American League Championship series between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians.

10/19/24 Mets top Dodgers to stay alive, Yankees inch closer in MLB playoffs. The New York Mets kept their magical season going, beating the Los Angeles Dodgers 12-6 on Friday to stay alive in their Major League Baseball playoff series. Pete Alonso hit a three-run home run in the first inning and the Mets piled up five runs in the third on the way to an 8-1 lead, then held on to cut the deficit to 3-2 in the best-of-seven National League Championship Series. The Dodgers, who were hoping to close out the series at the Mets' Citi Field, instead will host game six on Sunday, again with a chance to return to the World Series for the first time since they won it all in 2020.
