2/18/25 Why John Means, Guardians Are A Perfect Match for Each Other. John Means was at one point viewed as one of the top starting pitchers in baseball and was even named an All-Star in his first full MLB season in 2019. The Cleveland Guardians are taking a risk on the 31-year-old and reportedly signed him to a one-year deal with a team option for 2026. Means is looking to revive his career, and the Guardians need more starting pitching; they're a perfect match for one another, so let's break down why. Cleveland's lack of starting pitching was severely exposed in 2024.

2/16/25 Cleveland Guardians, Injured Free Agent Pitcher John Means in 'Advanced Talks'. The Cleveland Guardians are in "advanced talks" with free agent pitcher John Means, MassLive.com's Chris Cotillo reported Sunday. Means hit the open market this past fall, bringing an end to his 11-year tenure in the Baltimore Orioles' organization. The 31-year-old left-hander underwent his second career Tommy John surgery in June, though, so he is unlikely to be back to full strength before the All-Star break. Rumors surfaced earlier this winter that the Boston Red Sox were interested in Means, but that was before they signed Walker Buehler and Patrick Sandoval.

10/23/24 Orioles All-Star Called 'Low-Risk, High-Reward' Option For Cardinals. The St. Louis Cardinals may not make a massive investment in the club this season, but that doesn't mean that they won't add any players. St. Louis will be using the 2025 season as a bridge year until Chaim Bloom takes over the president of baseball operations role after the campaign. One player who was floated as a "low-risk, high-reward" option who could do just that is Baltimore Orioles pitcher John Means by FanSided's Josh Jacobs. "Back to buy low-candidates, John Means emerged as a promising starter for the Baltimore Orioles toward the end of their rebuilding years," Jacobs said.

9/17/24 GM admits Orioles have lost 'mojo' amid struggles. Depleted by injuries and entrenched in a prolonged hitting slump, the Baltimore Orioles are desperate to regain their winning ways as they stumble to the finish of the regular season. The Orioles owned a 57-33 record and led the AL East by three games on July 8. "The mojo that we've had has just drifted away from us the last few months," Orioles general manager Mike Elias said Tuesday. The Orioles have been trying most of the season to make up for the loss of three members of the starting rotation (John Means, Kyle Bradish and Tyler Wells).

7/01/24 After rare rest, Orioles face another division leader, M's. The Baltimore Orioles have already had as many off days in July -- one -- as they did in all of June. Despite losing three pitchers (John Means, Kyle Bradish and Tyler Wells) to season-ending surgeries and enduring a season-worst, five-game skid, the Orioles finished June with a 17-12 record and tied with the New York Yankees atop the American League East. The Orioles will open their July slate with a three-game road series against the AL West-leading Seattle Mariners on Tuesday. "We had a little tough stretch in there -- that's hard not to have when you're playing that much baseball against the teams we've played against," Orioles manager Brandon Hyde said of the past month.

6/17/24 Orioles pitcher John Means hopes to bounce back from 2nd Tommy John surgery: ‘Baseball is beautiful and horrifying’. Few in baseball have lived the highs that pitching in the major leagues can grant more than John Means. Even fewer have experienced the lows. Means was an All-Star in 2019. He entered the history books in 2021 when he pitched the sixth no-hitter in Baltimore Orioles history. He took part in two clubhouse celebrations in 2023. But a promising career was temporarily paused because of a torn ...
