The former Detroit Tigers reliever was designated for assignment by the New York Mets on Wednesday in a flurry of moves – the latest shakeup for a struggling Mets bullpen on the tail end of what's been claimed as a disappointing season. Uceta, a 25-year-old Dominican pitcher, was moved from the Mets' 40-man roster to make room for right-hander Dennis Santana, who was selected from Triple-A Syracuse, while fellow right-hander Jose Butto was optioned down to the minors in his place. The right-handed reliever was designated for assignment by the Detroit Tigers on March 30; claimed by the Pittsburgh Pirates on April 2; waived again; and then claimed by the New York Mets on Thursday. The Tigers had previously claimed him off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks, who had claimed him off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers, his original organization. The Tigers claimed Uceta, 25, off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks in January . He struck out 11 in seven innings of work this spring but didn't make the active roster. Amarillo RHP Brandon Pfaadt: 6 IP, 4 H, 2 R, 2 BB, 7 K, 87 pitches (64 strikes) A rough start by Tommy Henry, who struggled to throw strikes in this outing with half of his pitches missing the strike zone, that saw Reno (16-17) fall behind 3-0 in just 4 innings. It didn’t help much that Edwin Uceta couldn’t limit the damage as he coughed up a pair of solo homers in 2 1/3 innings in relief.
