4/30/25 Red Sox veteran witnessed 'one of the best catches I've seen in my life'. The Red Sox won 10-2 over the Blue Jays on Tuesday but the play of the game was made by the losing team. Blue Jays center fielder Daulton Varsho made a wild catch after falling down on the warning track going after Jarren Duran's 396-foot fly ball in the fourth inning. Varsho somehow made the catch while on the ground after spotting the ball in the final seconds. Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman said he has never seen anything like it.

4/30/25 Toronto Gold Glove OF Varsho makes stunning, backhanded catch in season debut against Boston. Daulton Varsho and his Gold Glove defense are back in the Toronto Blue Jays’ outfield. Hours after being activated off the injured list, Varsho turned in a highlight-reel catch at the base of the wall in center field in his season debut. Varsho was retreating to the wall in center on a one-out drive by Boston’s Jarren Duran in the fourth inning Tuesday night when he lost his balance as he reached the warning track, falling and rolling over. Able to get back up on one knee — and with his back turned to home plate — Varsho had the presence of mind to stick out his glove and make a remarkable catch.

At 13-15, the Blue Jays are looking for a spark, and Varsho may very well be able to provide it. Varsho should help the Blue Jays' outfield defense immensely, as Nathan Lukes and Myles Straw have been platooning in center to begin the season. Meanwhile, Alan Roden and Addison Barger are both on the roster at the moment as the primary left field options.

3/01/25 Toronto Blue Jays' Daulton Varsho Not Ruling Out Being Healthy Enough For Opening Day. Toronto Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho made his return to the lineup on Friday, blasting a home run in his first spring training at-bat, but he still isn't sure if he'll be ready to play defense by Opening Day. Defensively, Varsho says that this is all truly a day-to-day progression, but his next step is to start throwing over 80 mph regularly. Once he's at that number, he can start throwing to bases (simulating a game). A standout defender, Varsho won the gold glove in center field last year for the American League.

2/27/25 Toronto Blue Jays Gold Glover Gets Great News as He Battles Back From Injury. The Toronto Blue Jays provided a great update on Gold Glove outfielder Daulton Varsho, who is battling back from surgery on his right rotator cuff. It's still unknown if Varsho will be ready to play defense by Opening Day, but that's a very positive step for Varsho, who won the Gold Glove just last year. The Blue Jays pitching staff will also appreciate him coming back as well, as he's a superior defender at this point to George Springer and Anthony Santander, who will be flanking him on the corners. Since arriving in Toronto, he's hit just .217 with a .289 on-base percentage.
