6/27/24 Astros RHP Oliver Ortega has second elbow procedure. Houston Astros right-hander Oliver Ortega had a second surgery on his pitching elbow this week and will not appear in a game this season. Ortega, 27, made a pair of spring training appearances for the Astros before undergoing surgery in March to remove loose bodies in his right elbow. On Wednesday, he had another surgery to remove a bone spur in the elbow.

The Houston Astros announced they claimed right-handed pitcher Oliver Ortega off waivers from the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday., just two days after the start of the offseason. 27, made 10 relief appearances with the Twins last season, going 0-1 with a 4.30 ERA and a .204 opponent's batting average while spending the bulk of the season with Triple-A St. Paul. Ortega was on the Twins' 60-day injured list and will remain on the Astros' 60-day list after suffering a left lumbar strain following his acquisition.

7/26/23 Rodríguez homers twice in Mariners' 9-7 comeback win against Twins. Julio Rodríguez homered twice, including a two-run shot in a four-run eighth to tie the game, as the Seattle Mariners came back to beat the Minnesota Twins 9-7. After Rodríguez tied the game, Eugenio Suárez came through with a two-run double in the ninth off Oliver Ortega (0-1). Cade Marlowe added his first career homer for the Mariners, who have won four of six. Matt Brash (5-3) pitched an inning of relief for the win. Paul Sewald gave up a solo homer to Michael A. Taylor in the ninth but notched his 20th save in 23 chances.

5/06/22 Five Angels pitchers combine to blank Nationals. Oliver Ortega (sixth inning), Ryan Tepera (seventh), Aaron Loup (eighth) and Raisel Iglesias (ninth, seventh save) each pitched a scoreless inning. Iglesias needed just six pitches to finish it off. The Angels had only five hits themselves, including two by Mike Trout, who had the big hit of the night.

The Angels have dropped the first two games of the season, coming up short in a pitchers’ duel on Opening Day and then getting blown out a night later. Relievers Oliver Ortega (two runs), Mike Mayers (three), Jimmy Herget (four) and Jaime Barria (two) allowed a tie game in the fifth to turn into a lopsided loss. Angel Stadium was filled with 42,719 fans on a Shohei Ohtani bobblehead night, and they left with nothing to celebrate besides their new memorabilia.

Oliver Ortega first joined the Halos in 2015 when he was signed to a minor league contract, but throughout the years, he made his way to the Angels 2021 Top Prospect list in the number 14th spot. However, his short stint in the bullpen this year lasted a quick 8 games, earning him a 4.82 ERA before he was assigned to the Tigres del Licey. Ortega’s 2021 start on the 40-man roster began in September when his contract was selected from the Triple-A Salt Lake Bees.
