11/28/23 Washington Nationals news & notes: Jackson Rutledge makes MLB debut; 1 of 10 Nats to do so this year.... Both GM and President of Baseball Operations Mike Rizzo and the Nationals' manager Davey Martinez talked in advance of 2019 first round pick Jackson Rutledge's big league debut this past season about the right-hander's rise through the organizational ranks. “I'm happy about his progression and his development,” Rizzo told reporters in September.

10/26/23 Washington Nationals news & notes: Jackson Rutledge breaks through; makes MLB debut.... “He's a big angle guy, so he's a 6'7'' guy who comes really downhill at hitters,” Washington Nationals' GM Mike Rizzo told reporters in offering a scouting report on 2019 1st Round pick Jackson Rutledge before the 24-year-old right-hander made his MLB debut this past September. Rutledge ended up making four starts down the stretch, giving up 24 hits and 15 runs in 20 innings pitched (for a 6.75 ERA, and a 5.86 FIP), over which he walked six, and struck out 12, with opposing hitters putting up a combined .304/.364/.519 line against him. “He has been — not I would say written off,” Rizzo said in advance of Rutledge's first big league outing, “but when you're in the minor leagues, and you come from a junior college program — which is going to take you a little bit longer than if you come from an SEC program or that type of thing, and then he got nicked up a couple times and kind of struggled with that, but the last two years he's been solid, he's taken the ball every fifth day, which is what we're trying to accomplish here at the big league level and the minor league level for these pitchers — because so many of them get hurt — is to finish a full season happy and healthy and progressing in the right direction, and I think that [Rutledge] has shown from his A-ball progression to Double-A and Triple-A, he's earned the right to debut in the big leagues.”

In the end, the Nats got through most of the season with five/six starters (MacKenzie Gore, Josiah Gray, Patrick Corbin, and Trevor Williams — with 10 outings from Chad Kuhl before rookie Jake Irvin got called up to start in early May and stuck around), and the club ended up using eight total on the year, giving [Joan] Adon and Rutledge a look in the final weeks of the 2023 campaign.

9/18/23 Nationals Notebook: Teetering on the precipice. Believe it or not with just 12 games left in the regular season, the Washington Nationals are technically in contention because the team has 84 losses while three teams chasing the final Wild Card berth each have 78 wins. The present has been secured with general manager Mike Rizzo signing a multiyear extension. The future had its night with prime pitching prospect Jackson Rutledge making his Major League debut. Digesting the Division: Atlanta (96-53) despite getting swept by Miami remains in the driver's seat for home field in the playoffs.

8/26/23 WooSox moves into first place following Saturday's outcome against Red Wings. Just three days since Grant Gambrell was called up to Worcester , the 25-year-old tossed 5.2 shutout innings, allowed two hits, and struck out five to lead the Red Sox to a 6-3 win against the Rochester Red Wings on Saturday. This start also marked Gambrell's Triple-A debut. It didn't take long for Worcester to reach the scoreboard, as Niko Kavadas led off the third inning with a home run against Jackson Rutledge. But the scoring continued during the fourth as Ryan Fitzgerald tripled down the right-field line. Then following back-to-back walks for Christian Arroyo and Kavadas, Ceddanne Rafaela opened things with a bases-clearing double off the right-field wall to move the Red Sox ahead 4-0. Rafaela
