12/11/25 Joe Buck gets Hall of Fame's Frick Award, joins Jack to become first father-son duo to earn honor. Joe Buck has been awarded the Ford C. Frick Award for excellence in broadcasting by baseball's Hall of Fame. He joins his father, Jack Buck, as the only father-son duo to receive this honor. Buck will receive the award during the Hall’s July 25 awards presentation. At 56, he becomes the second-youngest winner, behind Vin Scully. Buck's career includes calling World Series games from 1996 to 2021, working with Fox. The award requires 10 years of continuous experience, and the ballot is selected by a committee of past winners and historians.

9/23/24 Hochman: Cardinals should replace John Mozeliak as boss of baseball operations. It's time.. In the late summer of 2016, the St. Louis Cardinals again were in the playoff hunt because this was, after all, the St. Louis Cardinals. Under baseball boss John Mozeliak, the Cards won the 2011 World Series, made the 2012 National League Championship Series, made the 2013 World Series, reached the NLCS again in 2014 and won 100 games in 2015. Back then, I hosted a radio show with Post-Dispatch scribes Derrick Goold and Ben Frederickson. It was bold, but I felt if Mozeliak kept it going, he'd go down as an iconic executive, worthy of his face on the Busch Stadium left field wall, alongside players with retired numbers (and Rogers Hornsby, Jack Buck and August A. Busch Jr.).

8/26/24 Tate | This is unfamiliar territory for Cardinals. For many decades, dating back to the inspiring broadcasts of Harry Caray (1945-69) and Jack Buck — he would have turned 100 last week — the St. Louis Cardinals have been a major source of summer entertainment for downstate Illinoisans unattracted by Chicago's summer offerings. The Redbirds earned early popularity as the the game's western-most team, bringing in legions of followers from Missouri, Arkansas, Oklahoma and the Deep South.

1/15/24 Cardinals fans brave single digit temperatures to meet players at Winter Warm-Up. The annual St. Louis Cardinals Winter Warm-Up is taking place during the coldest weekend of the season. Fans from near and far have descended on Busch Stadium and Ballpark Village. Faye Licata remembered growing up in southern Illinois and how her parents would listen to Jack Buck on the radio, teaching her about baseball. "It was a big event for us to get to come to one game a year," Licata said.

1/30/23 Chip Caray follows grandpa's footsteps as voice of Cardinals.

Longtime broadcaster Chip Caray is taking over as the television play-by-play voice of the St. Louis Cardinals, more than five decades after his grandfather and Hall of Fame broadcaster Harry Caray became a baseball staple with the same club.

Bally Sports Midwest announced Caray's hiring in a statement Monday. The voice of the Atlanta Braves is replacing Dan McLaughlin, who left the Cardinals booth in December after 24 years following his third arrest for drunken driving.

“I’m grateful and excited to come home and call games for the team that made me fall in love with baseball as a kid in St. Louis County,” Caray said. “I have always admired the passion, knowledge and loyalty of Cardinals fans, both here in St. Louis and across the country. The honor of continuing the legacy of my grandfather Harry, my dad Skip and so many other great Cardinal broadcasters, past and present, is the stuff dreams are made of."

The third generation of Carays to broadcast in the major leagues spent the past 20 seasons as the voice of the Braves on Bally Sports South, Bally Sports Southeast, TBS and Peachtree TV. He also called games regionally for the Seattle Mariners and Chicago Cubs, where his grandfather spent the final 16 years of his career.

Harry Caray got his break in broadcasting with the Cardinals, though, beginning alongside former catcher Gabby Street in 1945. He held down the job alongside such luminaries as Joe Garagiola and Jack Buck through the 1969 season, then went on to spend a season with the A's before a decade with the White Sox and the rest of his career with the Cubs.

Chip Caray's father, Skip, was part of the Braves broadcast team from 1976 until his death in 2008. And his brother, Josh Caray, is the play-by-play voice of the Rocket City Trash Pandas, the Double-A...

7/23/22 Hochman: Recalling a classic Cardinals call from the emotional summer of 2002. Jack Buck called me out of the blue,” the Hall of Fame broadcaster said by phone himself Saturday, while discussing the iconic Buck. Just a real friendly guy. It was kind of exciting that a guy like that was calling me.

6/22/22 Hochman: Remembering when the Cardinals lost Buck and Kile, 20 Junes ago. The loss of Jack Buck was anticipated but still gut-wrenching; the loss of Darryl Kile was a sucker punch to the gut—a pain from which many haven’t fully recovered.
