8/21/25 Who Will Be Phillies Next Prospect Promoted To Make Major League Debut?. The Philadelphia Phillies have done a great job in recent weeks, starting to put some distance between themselves and the New York Mets in the National League East race. Entering play on Aug. 21, the Phillies had a 6.5-game lead over their rivals in the division, playing some great baseball. The work that the president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski, did ahead of the deadline was paying dividends. Especially the bullpen additions, where free agent signing David Robertson and trade acquisition Jhoan Duran are both excelling.

8/20/25 David Robertson Has Made 29 Teams Look Foolish Through Four Phillies Games. David Robertson had a 3.00 ERA in 72 innings for the Rangers in 2024 and was not signed to a new team this past offseason. Yes, part of that is because Robertson was asking for a good chunk of money, and teams didn't want to give that to a 40-year-old with 17 years of work on his arm. The Phillies agreed to terms with Robertson back on July 20th after he threw for scouts in a private BP. The Phillies settled on a 1-year, $16M deal that was prorated to the back half of the season.

The 2009 World Series champion spoke about the decision during a recent Foul Territory interview, offering rare clarity on the his contract while the club continues to pace the NL East. On July 21, the club finalized a one-year, prorated contract and optioned Robertson to Triple-A Lehigh Valley for a short buildup. 8/07/25 Phillies Offensive Consistency Will Determine Team's Success Down Stretch. The Philadelphia Phillies had two main concerns to address heading into the MLB trade deadline: upgrade their outfield and find a closer. President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski, as he has done so many times previously, stated what he wanted and then went out and got it. Veteran relief pitcher David Robertson was signed in free agency before the team pulled off a blockbuster, landing Minnesota Twins closer Jhoan Duran in exchange for starting pitcher Mick Abel and star catching prospect Eduardo Tait.

8/01/25 Phillies Showing Interest in Cardinals' Closer Ryan Helsley: Report. The MLB trade deadline is just one day away, and the Philadelphia Phillies have yet to acquire any bullpen help. While the signing of David Robertson could be beneficial, he is currently in Triple-A preparing for an inevitable call-up. Despite closer Jose Alvarado being eligible to return from an 80-game suspension in mid-August, he cannot pitch in the postseason.

7/30/25 Phillies Listed as 'Buy Low' Destination for Braves' Raisel Iglesias. Despite signing David Robertson for the remainder of the season, the Philadelphia Phillies are still searching for bullpen upgrades ahead of the MLB trade deadline. Suspended closer Jose Alvarado is on schedule to return in the middle of August, providing further stability, but is not eligible for the postseason. While Philadelphia will certainly target some of the top closers on the market, such as Minnesota Twins’ Jhoan Duran, they may not be willing to part ways with multiple top prospects to get a deal done.

7/25/25 MLB Insider Sees Phillies As Potential Fit for Diamondbacks All-Star Eugenio Suarez. The Philadelphia Phillies are getting closer to the MLB trade deadline, and so far, they have yet to make a splash. The Phillies have started to address the bullpen with the signing of David Robertson, but more is going to be needed there. In the outfield, the team has struggled to get production out of free agent signing Max Kepler, which has continued their trend of having a poor offensive unit. Conventional wisdom would suggest Philadelphia will be eyeing someone who can boost their outfield, however, after Alec Bohm went down with an injury, Jon Heyman of The New York Post believes they could turn their attention to addressing that new area of concern by listing the Phillies as a potential fit for Arizona Diamondbacks All-Star slugger Eugenio Suarez.

7/24/25 August 5th Revealed as David Robertson's Debut Date for Phillies. It's tough to say that the Philadelphia Phillies made the perfect decision when they went out and signed David Robertson on Sunday night. Robertson has already pitched in Philadelphia throughout his career and was staying ready during the early stages of the year. It's unfortunate that he didn't latch onto a team until the end of July, but it isn't anything that the Phillies can be too worried about.
