10/16/24 Injured Alex Cobb dropped from Guardians' ALCS roster, replaced by Ben Lively. Pitcher Alex Cobb has been dropped from the Cleveland Guardians AL Championship Series roster after getting hurt in the opener and has been replaced by fellow right-hander Ben Lively, the team’s winningest pitcher during the regular season. Cobb left Monday’s 5-2 loss to the New York Yankees after 2 2/3 innings because of hip tightness and a back spasm. Cobb is ineligible to pitch for the remainder of the postseason. Lively, a 32-year-old right-hander, was 13-10 with a 3.81 ERA in 29 starts. He last pitched Sept. 28 against Houston on the next-to-last day of the regular season.

10/09/24 10 questions with Alex Cobb: Disney movies, baseball smells and growing up a Dodgers bat boy in Florida. Alex Cobb returns to the mound for the first time in more than a month on Wednesday when he takes the ball for Game 3 of the American League Division Series between the Guardians and Tigers at Comerica Park. Cobb, who turned 37 on Monday, has waited 11 years between playoff starts after a 2013 postseason run with the Rays that included blanking Cleveland in the 2013 wild card game. Cobb made three regular season starts for the Guards, including six perfect innings against the Pirates on Sept. 1 at Progressive Field. A former minor league teammate of manager Stephen Vogt and bench coach craig Albernaz, Cobb has battled blister and fingernail issues to put himself in position to help Cleveland advance.

9/03/24 San Francisco Giants Did Not Take Full Advantage of MLB Trade Deadline. The San Francisco Giants took an odd approach to the 2024 MLB trade deadline that has come back to bite them. It seemed like one of their goals was to save some money and clear salary cap space. Alex Cobb, who had yet to start a game this season, was traded to the Cleveland Guardians. Then, ahead of the buzzer, the Giants acquired veteran Mark Canha from the Detroit Tigers, using the money they saved by moving Soler.

9/02/24 Cadre of ex-catchers kept an eye on Alex Cobb's perfecto bid: Guardians takeaways. With no fewer than four ex-professional catchers on the Guardians coaching staff, it should come as no surprise that when Alex Cobb began to flirt with history on Sunday, there were plenty of voices with experience in the dugout. Cobb, bidding for Cleveland's first perfect game since Len Barker's masterpiece in 1981, retired 18 batters in a row Sunday before giving up a single to Pittsburgh's Isiah Kiner-Falefa in the seventh.

9/02/24 Guardians starter Alex Cobb's perfect game bid comes to a painful end against Pirates. Normally, nobody is supposed to talk to a pitcher while he has a perfect game or no-hitter bid going. But what if he comes up to you first?

9/01/24 Three Observations From Guardians Win Over Pirates, 6-1. Another win and another series victory for the Cleveland Guardians as they defeated the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday afternoon, 6-1. Here are three observations and takeaways from Cleveland's latest win. There was a point in Sunday's game in which Alex Cobb was perfect, like actually perfect. The veteran pitcher sent down the first 18 hitters he saw and pitched into the seventh inning before giving up two consecutive hits, the first of which came back to hit Cobb on his nonthrowing hand.

8/26/24 Cleveland Guardians, San Francisco Giants Finalize Alex Cobb Trade. On July 30, the Cleveland Guardians acquired starting pitcher Alex Cobb from the San Francisco Giants to add a veteran arm to their sinking starting rotation. The trade between the two organizations initially included Cobb going to the Guardians in exchange for RHP Jacob Bresnahan and a player to be named later. This deal is now complete, with the team announcing the PTBNL in this deal is Cleveland prospect Nate Furman. Furman, 23, was Cleveland's fourth overall selection in the 2022 draft and started the season with the Lake County Captains (High-A).

8/25/24 Robbie Ray leaves SF Giants' game vs. Mariners with hamstring injury. When the Giants traded away Alex Cobb and Farhan Zaidi declared their starting rotation the best in baseball, they were betting the five-man group as assembled could carry them the eight weeks from the trade deadline to the last day of the regular season and, they hoped, into October. It was a risky wager, with a pair of rookies and another coming off major surgery, and the chances of it paying off took another blow Sunday afternoon when Robbie Ray winced and grabbed at his left hamstring on his 62nd pitch of their series finale against the Seattle Mariners. Ray was removed from the game after a brief consultation on the mound with manager Bob Melvin and trainer Dave Groeschner, and the Giants later said he was diagnosed with left hamstring tightness. The 32-year-old left-hander should undergo tests in the coming days that determine the severity of the injury and what kind of loss the Giants can expect in their rotation.

8/22/24 Recently Traded San Francisco Giants Starter Placed on Injured List. There were a lot of unknowns surrounding what the San Francisco Giants were going to do ahead of this past trade deadline. With an outside chance of getting into the playoffs, there were some people out there who thought they should go ahead and start selling off the majority of their pieces to get back star prospects that could kickstart a rebuild. Starting pitcher Alex Cobb was one who was in the first category. The Giants decided to ship him to the Cleveland Guardians just one year removed from him being named an All-Star in exchange for minor leaguer Jacob Bresnahan.
