8/08/25 Twins place C Christian Vazquez (shoulder) on 10-day IL. August 8 - The Minnesota Twins placed catcher Christian Vazquez on the 10-day injured list Friday with a left shoulder infection. The move is retroactive to Wednesday for the Twins, who recalled fellow catcher Jhonny Pereda from Triple-A St. Paul. Vazquez, 34, is batting just .174 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 61 games this season. He is a career .249 hitter with 70 homers and 348 RBIs in 989 games with the Boston Red Sox and Twins. Pereda, 29, was claimed off waivers from the Athletics on July 22. He batted .333 (7-for-21) with one homer and three RBIs in six games with the Saints. 8/07/25 Here in 2025, and after four World Series titles, it's time to name our All-Quarter-Century Red Sox team. With that it mind, it seemed a fitting time to put together our All-Quarter-Century Red Sox team. A few rules : We used Wins Above Replacement as a major factor, but not always the deciding factor, since sentiment and nostalgia must be at play here. The stoic captain of the 2004 and 2007 champs is the only player ever to catch four no-hitters, and few Red Sox have ever had a higher approval rating. From 2000 until his retirement after the 2011 season, he provided 22.3 Wins Above Replacement, more than three times the Red Sox' second-most productive catcher of this century, Christian Vazquez (6.9 WAR).

6/09/25 Back-to-back homers lift Twins over Blue Jays to salvage weekend series. The Twins may have lost the series, but they won the final game of said series which will hopefully give them some momentum going into an off-day today. After losing two close games to start the series (6-4 Friday and 5-4 Saturday), the Twins picked up a much needed win yesterday coming out on top 6-3 thanks to back-to-back bombs in the fourth inning. The Blue Jays got out in front early with a run in the second, but that was quickly countered by two Twins runs in the bottom half of the inning turning to a little small-ball to get it done. Christian Vazquez drove in a run on a ground ball that turned to a fielders choice, then Trevor Larnach hit a sacrifice fly to drive in the second run giving

4/05/25 Will Kristian Campbell finally halt the yearslong merry-go-round at second base for the Red Sox?. In the eight seasons that followed, the Red Sox used 38 different starters at second base, none for more than 92 games in a single season. The long list of starters at second base includes two catchers (Christian Vazquez and Connor Wong), two guys named Hernandez (Marco and Kiké), two players from Taiwan (Tzu-Wei Lin and Yu Chang) and four players who were All-Stars with other teams before they came to Boston (Ian Kinsler, Jose Iglesias, Brandon Phillips, and Justin Turner).

8/07/24 Twins catcher Christian Vazquez hitting again, finally. CHICAGO — There are a lot of professional resources for professional baseball players these days. Not only do major league teams have a phalanx of in-house pitching and hitting coaches, they often work with private coaches and facilities. And when Christian Vazquez got to June this season hitting well under .200, the Twins catcher left no stone unturned. When the Twins traveled to Phoenix and ...

7/08/24 Twins' Christian Vazquez aims to ride momentum into matchup vs. White Sox. Minnesota Twins catcher Christian Vazquez is batting just .204 entering Monday night's three-game series opener against the host Chicago White Sox, but recent success has brightened his spirits. Vazquez hit a walk-off home run in the ninth inning against Houston Astros closer Josh Hader on Sunday and has three straight multi-hit games to open July. "The game is so hard, and you never can stop working, and I think that's where I'm at right now," Vazquez said.

1/30/24 2023 In Review: Wilyer Abreu or Won't-Yer Abreu?. The return from the Christian Vazquez trade is looking pretty good. Enmanuel Valdez, a power hitter who is a versatile fielder, at least, though not a particularly sound one, got the early headlines at second base. Wilyer Abreu, who would eventually be named to the postseason Triple-A All-Star team for Worcester (and would become a dad in August!), got the call to the Majors late in the season and used his opportunity to make a name for himself, as well. Abreu's runs above average value was below average on every other pitch he was offered.

11/23/23 MLB rumors: Twins looking to make Christian Vazquez trade. The Minnesota Twins are reportedly looking to trade catcher Christian Vazquez, per Robert Murray of FanSided. Murray shared the report while speaking on Foul Territory Wednesday, stating that Minnesota wants to cut payroll by trading players. “One of them has been Christian Vazquez according to sources who have spoken with the Twins.” “I don't necessarily know what the likelihood of a trade is but when he was a free agent last year, he ended up garnering pretty strong interest from the Padres,” Murray continued.

8/01/23 What we're hearing about the Red Sox ahead of Tuesday's MLB trade deadline. Much like last season, it looks like the Red Sox would like to be buyers AND sellers at Tuesday's 6 p.m. trade deadline. Last year, Bloom sent away catcher and clubhouse leader Christian Vazquez ahead of the deadline, which sent the wrong kind of message to the team. The Sox were still kinda, sorta in the playoff hunt when he made that move, but it greatly deflated the clubhouse and a tailspin ensued shortly after. Fast forward to this season, and while the Sox are way out of the AL East, they are very much in striking distance for a Wild Card spot.

7/26/23 Chaim Bloom Reflects On Lessons From 2022 Red Sox Deadline. The 2022 trade deadline featured both additions and subtractions for the Boston Red Sox. Whether it was the departure of former World Series champion Christian Vazquez or the arrival of rental outfielder Tommy Pham, the front office mixed both buying and selling at the deadline. With under a week to go until the 2023 trade deadline, chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom reflected on how lessons from a year ago with shape his own actions at the key date this season. “One thing we try to do is actually review it afterwards, whether we are high-fiving each other or sitting there with our arms folded,” Bloom told Chris Cotillo and Sean McAdam on MassLive's The Fenway Rundown podcast.
