Former Los Angeles Angels reliever Hector Neris was designated for assignment by the Houston Astros, ending his third tenure with the organization. Houston was Neris' third stop this season. With the Angels, he made made 21 appearances and pitched 14 innings, though his ERA was a disappointing 5.14.

The benches cleared between the Houston Astros and Boston Red Sox over the weekend, and it all stemmed from what appeared to be paranoia about sign-stealing. Astros reliever Hector Neris purposely balked to advance a runner to third, then had an exchange with Red Sox third base coach Kyle Hudson that led to a dustup between the teams. As Neris made his way off the mound, he had words with Hudson and yelled toward the Red Sox dugout, causing both teams, including bullpens, to come on the field before order was quickly restored.

7/05/25 Astros bring back veteran reliever Hector Neris for 3rd stint. LOS ANGELES -- The Houston Astros brought back Hector Neris , signing the 36-year-old right-hander on Saturday. This is the third stint with the Astros for Neris, who was part of Houston's 2022 World Series-winning team. He previously pitched this season for the Los Angeles Angels , going 3-0 with a 5.14 ERA in 21 appearances. He is 46-42 with a 3.44 ERA in 631 major league appearances, all in relief, over 12 seasons. Neris will wear No. 50 again for the Astros and was with the team for Saturday's game at the Los Angeles Dodgers . Right-hander Jason Alexander was optioned to Triple-A Sugar Land.

The Los Angeles Angels have signed free agent reliever Hector Neris to a minor league contract, per the team's transaction log. Neris could be a reinforcement for a bullpen that is short one of its best back-end relievers in Ben Joyce if he proves he can provide depth for the Halos.
