5/02/24 Young Red Sox rotation surprisingly delivering early-season dominance. There were some big April shockers, but absolutely no one (not me certainly) saw such mastery coming from the Red Sox rotation, not after Boston practically sat out the winter. After a so-so (at best) 2023 season, the Sox signed for the rotation only Lucas Giolito, the previously reliable righty who turned out to require Tommy John surgery (considering his history, yet another surprise). So it's incredible improvement among the young holdovers that's doing it. With Giolito and now Nick Pivetta and Brayan Bello on the injured list, and absolutely no expectations beyond its own front office, Boston's rotation has posted an MLB best (by far) 2.03 ERA while allowing an MLB best no earned runs in

5/01/24 Red Sox Reportedly Were Finalists For Ex-Blue Jays Fireballer In Free Agency. © John Hefti-USA TODAY Sports Red Sox Reportedly Were Finalists For Ex-Blue Jays Fireballer In Free Agency It sounds like the Red Sox really tried to sign the fireballer this past offseason Author: Patrick McAvoy May 01, 2024 In this story: Boston Red Sox MLB News The Boston Red Sox seemingly showed interest in every pitcher that was available -- through trade or free agency -- this past offseason. Boston entered the offseason with a real need in the starting rotation and opted to only sign Lucas Giolito. There were other players available and the Red Sox were linked to them all in some way, but the club wasn't able to get another deal done. While this is the case, it does sound like Boston really

Reliever Liam Hendriks (Tommy John recovery) and first baseman Triston Casas (rib fracture) will be out for the foreseeable future. 4/22/24 Injured Red Sox pitcher felt 'guilty' after elbow surgery. Lucas Giolito's 2024 season ended before it started, and he couldn't help but feel guilty about getting injured before even throwing a pitch for the Boston Red Sox. The Red Sox signed the right-handed pitcher to help bolster their rotation. While Giolito avoided Tommy John surgery and had a less-invasive procedure, it's still something that weighed on him in the beginning.

4/22/24 Red Sox's Lucas Giolito breaks silence on devastating injury. The Boston Red Sox are having a crisis with their pitching staff. During spring training, star pitcher Lucas Giolito abruptly exited the game due to an injury. After a few days, the fans' worst fears were confirmed: Giolito would be out for the entire season after undergoing elbow surgery. A month after the injury, Lucas Giolito finally spoke about the injury that took him out for the season, per Chris Rose.

4/20/24 Red Sox making interesting roster move after Triston Casas' injury. The Boston Red Sox have had some terrible injury luck to start the year. Before the season even began, their big free agent acquisition, Lucas Giolito, suffered an elbow injury that forced him to have Tommy John surgery. Boston has lost Trevor Story for the year and multiple players to the injured list, including Garrett Whitlock, Nick Pivetta, Tyler O'Neill, Vaughn Grissom, Romy Gonzalez, and Isaiah Campbell.

Boston ended up only signing Lucas Giolito as the only major addition to the starting rotation but he will miss the entire 2024 season. 4/10/24 How Recently Acquired Japanese Hurler Fared In Organizational Debut. How Recently Acquired Japanese Hurler Fared In Organizational Debut Boston could use the added pitching depth Author: Stephen Mottram Apr 11, 2024 In this story: Boston Red Sox MLB News The Boston Red Sox entered the 2024 season with a lackluster pitching staff, but help may be on the way. Before the season even started, newly acquired star Lucas Giolito went down for the year with an elbow injury. Giolito's injury would mark the start of an unfortunate set of injuries for Red Sox hurlers, with the latest being Nick Pivetta, who was placed on the 15-day injured list with an elbow strain. Like last year, Boston may be dipping into the minor league talent pool to get the pitching staff through

3/24/24 Red Sox Make Noteworthy Move To Open Roster Spot For Pitcher. The Red Sox on Sunday made it official: Lucas Giolito won't pitch for Boston for quite a while. Four days before the club's Opening Day game in Seattle, the Red Sox announced Giolito was placed on the 60-day injured list. The move was made in order to create a roster spot for Chase Anderson, a veteran right-hander who joined Boston on a one-year major league contract Sunday. Of course, an official designation wasn't needed to know Giolito would be off the mound for some time.

3/22/24 Why aren't Red Sox going after established starters following Lucas Giolito's injury?. A chorus of evaluators expressed surprise that, with Lucas Giolito lost for the season, the Red Sox haven't made a push to add an established starter. In their assessments, a front-of-the-rotation addition such as Blake Snell (who signed a two-year, $62 million deal with the Giants) or Jordan Montgomery (who remains a free agent) made the most sense if the Red Sox want to contend. Given the possibility of adding an established starter who also could be a trade candidate if the season goes sideways, it's hard to fault members of the industry for their suspicions that the Red Sox are simply done spending real money to upgrade their roster prior to the season. At this stage of the spring, it has become evident that the Red Sox are not only open to but excited about giving Garrett Whitlock and Tanner Houck chances to prove they can be big league starters following healthy offseasons.

Insider Throws Cold Water On Idea Red Sox Will Make Significant Addition Despite Rumors Boston still has some work to do in the starting rotation Author: Patrick McAvoy Mar 20, 2024 7:28 PM EDT In this story: Boston Red Sox The Boston Red Sox need some serious help in the starting lineup if the club wants to turn things around in 2024. The starting rotation was Boston's biggest weakness in 2023 and with Opening Day right around the corner, it seems like the club may be in a comparable spot. Boston signed Lucas Giolito in free agency but he will miss the season due to an elbow injury. The Red Sox traded Chris Sale away to the Atlanta Braves for intriguing infielder Vaughn Grissom. 3/19/24 Angels miss prime opportunity yet again after Blake Snell signing. The Los Angeles Angels clearly need to improve their pitching staff. It was the case last year when the Angels went out and grabbed Lucas Giolito at the trade deadline, and it is definitely the case now with Shohei Ohtani in a Dodgers uniform and Giolito having moved on as well. LA decided not to try and bring back Ohtani, and watched as the big names -- from Yoshinobu Yamamoto to lesser, but still useful guys like Michael Wacha -- all signed elsewhere, with little resistance from the Angels. There was still hope that the Angels could still make a splash on the pitching market before the start of the 2024 season, however, as both Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery were still somehow available entering mid-March.

3/18/24 Free Agent All-Star Pitcher Threw Bullpen Session; Could Red Sox Sign Him?. Free Agent All-Star Pitcher Threw Bullpen Session; Could Red Sox Sign Him? Boston's starting rotation is lacking depth with Opening Day quickly approaching Author: Patrick McAvoy Mar 18, 2024 1:00 PM EDT In this story: Boston Red Sox Detroit Tigers Philadelphia Phillies Could the Boston Red Sox make one more addition before Opening Day? Boston's biggest addition to the starting rotation this offseason certainly was former All-Star Lucas Giolito but he will miss the 2024 season due to injury. The Red Sox are thin in rotation depth and could use at least one more addition before the 2024 campaign kicks off. It seems like Boston doesn't want to make a large investment in someone like Blake

Boston needs some help in the rotation and the veteran still is out there Author: Patrick McAvoy Mar 18, 2024 9:13 AM EDT In this story: Boston Red Sox Chicago White Sox The Boston Red Sox are running out of time to add another starter to the rotation. Boston's rotation still has serious question marks and is in an even tougher spot than it was in 2023 due to the injury to top free agent addition Lucas Giolito. The Red Sox certainly still could make another move or two but Opening Day is just about here. Somehow there still are a few options out there, but they likely will sign soon so the Red Sox will need

MLB Insider Throws Cold Water On Idea Red Sox Will Sign Star Duo Despite Rumors Will Boston make another major addition or are they done adding? Author: Patrick McAvoy Mar 15, 2024 10:09 AM EDT In this story: Boston Red Sox The Boston Red Sox certainly have been surprising. Boston entered the offseason with the starting rotation as the club's biggest roster hole. The Red Sox were linked in some way to seemingly every big-name player available to help the rotation, including both free agents and trade candidates. The Red Sox did make a splash by signing Lucas Giolito, but the club was linked to other options as well as the club had multiple other holes to fill. Boston surprisingly hasn't
