5/28/25 Dodgers Dave Roberts sends message on benching Michael Conforto. The Los Angeles Dodgers maintained their divisional lead on Tuesday with a win over the Cleveland Guardians. Recently, that has meant parting ways with two of the team's longest-tenured position players in Austin Barnes and Chris Taylor. After signing a one-year, $17 million deal to join the Dodgers, Conforto has slashed just .162/.303/.260 this season, prompting manager Dave Roberts to acknowledge that, at some point, he could stop receiving opportunities to play.

5/27/25 Dodgers could be forced to cut ties with recent call up via trade thanks to injuries. The Los Angeles Dodgers recently designated Austin Barnes for assignment. The Dodgers called up Dalton Rushing, their top prospect, to back up Will Smith after moving on from Barnes. "It would take a lot for the Dodgers to deal Rushing, their No. 1 prospect until he graduates to fully-fledged rookie status, but if the rotation is still bent out of shape by the deadline and a non-contender puts a competitive starter on the market, maybe the Dodgers could be more agreeable," wrote Stebbins.

5/24/25 Letters to Sports: Dodgers should honor Austin Barnes and Chris Taylor. Readers of the Los Angeles Times Sports section share their thoughts on recent roster moves by the Dodgers and Lincoln Riley's USC salary.

5/22/25 Moving on without Austin Barnes, Chris Taylor will affect Dodgers’ chemistry. Moves like the release of the well-liked veterans last week are “the business side” of the game, their former teammates acknowledge, but it creates “a new dynamic” in the clubhouse now.

5/21/25 Dodgers' Andrew Friedman Wants to See Chris Taylor Back With LA One Day. The Los Angeles Dodgers are making rapid changes to their team, and have made it clear that the goal is to win now. In a mix of unfortunate injuries to some of their stars, moments of stagnant offense during a recent rough stretch, and playing in one of baseball's most competitive divisions, the Dodgers' two longest-tenured position players are no longer with the team. After catcher Austin Barnes was designated for assignment on Wednesday while the team called up top prospect Dalton Rushing, veteran utility man Chris Taylor was released a few days later on Sunday. Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman spoke on the infectious mindset of Taylor and what he added to the team outside the box score.

5/19/25 Why a tight NL West race factored into Dodgers' decision to cut Chris Taylor, Austin Barnes. With another tight NL West division race looming, the Dodgers didn't wait to act aggressively this week, resulting in the team moving on from Austin Barnes and Chris Taylor.

5/19/25 Dodgers boss breaks silence as team cuts ties with championship veterans. The Los Angeles Dodgers are in first place but that doesn't mean the team is content with the roster. Despite a winning record, the Dodgers made a pair of dramatic moves last week by cutting a pair of long-tenured veterans who had played roles in both of the team's recent World Series championships. On Wednesday, the team cut catcher Austin Barnes to make room for top prospect Dalton Rushing to be called up.

5/18/25 Andrew Friedman Reveals Process for Austin Barnes, Chris Taylor Decisions. The Los Angeles Dodgers have had to make two very tough roster decisions this week. First, it was designating longtime catcher Austin Barnes for assignment, while it wasn't a total shocker move, he had been with the team for 11 seasons. Next, and most recently, utilityman Chris Taylor was released by the team.

5/18/25 Dodgers risk clubhouse unrest as another World Series winner is cut. Days after controversially cutting catcher Austin Barnes, the Los Angeles Dodgers have decided to part with another popular player in Chris Taylor. Taylor, 34, was in the final year of a four-year, $60million deal but is now looking for a new team after eight years in Los Angeles.

5/17/25 Dodgers' Andrew Friedman Breaks Silence on Austin Barnes DFA Decision. The Los Angeles Dodgers made the shocking decision to move on from Austin Barnes as they designated the longtime catcher for assignment earlier this week. Barnes was slashing .214/.233/.286 with two RBIs and an OPS of .518 across 44 plate appearances. The Dodgers roster is arguably one of the best in baseball, but that has in turn created a problem for young players in the farm system. With so much star talent at the big league level, prospects spend years waiting for their chance to prove themselves.

5/16/25 Dodgers could soon cut ties with $60 million former All-Star, per MLB writer. The Los Angeles Dodgers cut bait with their longest-tenured position player earlier this week. Backup catcher Austin Barnes, who had been in the big leagues with the Dodgers since 2015, was designated for assignment on Wednesday to make way for top prospect Dalton Rushing. Barnes had appeared in only 13 games this season. With Barnes gone, the Dodgers still have a handful of players hoping the axe doesn't fall for them next.

5/15/25 Clayton Kershaw Reacts to Austin Barnes Decision. Small shockwaves were sent through the Los Angeles Dodgers organization when they had to DFA Austin Barnes and call up top catcher prospect Dalton Rushing. Especially considering Dodgers legend Clayton Kershaw is on the heels of making his 2025 debut this Saturday, who is close friends with Barnes, and a longtime battery mate. You won't find a guy that competes better than Austin Barnes.

4/12/25 Roki Sasaki-Austin Barnes pairing is nothing personal, Dodgers' Dave Roberts says. LOS ANGELES — It's more than a coincidence. But it's less than a commitment. For the second consecutive start, Austin Barnes was paired with Roki Sasaki. Barnes has also caught Sasaki's bullpens recently. But he is not Sasaki's 'personal catcher,' Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. “They've spent a lot of time together,” Roberts acknowledged. “It's not like a dedicated battery at all. But I just felt that Roki had a good one over there (in Philadelphia). There's some familiarity, and let's kind of just go with that for a little bit. “I don't want to box myself in. Will's our starting catcher. So when you start playing that game and then you box yourself in. I'm not going to do that.” Will Smith

9/16/24 Dodgers get injury update on backup catcher. Los Angeles Dodgers have placed backup catcher Austin Barnes on the injured list with a fractured left big toe, the team announced on Monday. LA has recalled catcher Hunter Feduccia to replace him. Barnes exited the Dodgers' 9-2 win over the Atlanta Braves on Sunday in the fifth inning and manager Dave Roberts did not sound optimistic after the game. “Very high,” Roberts added, characterizing his level of concern.

9/15/24 Dodgers Injuries: Austin Barnes Removed From Sunday Night Baseball Game. The majority of Los Angeles Dodgers injuries this season have impacted their pitching staff, but Austin Barnes is among a handful of position players who missed time as well. Barnes again has another injury for the Dodgers to monitor as he was removed from Sunday's game against the Atlanta Braves due to a left big toe contusion. On the surface that decision appeared to be tied to Barnes being hit in the left hand by a Jorge Soler swing, which was called for catcher interference, or Dodgers manager Dave Roberts looking to be aggressive.
