| 4/18/24 | Cubs add more offensive firepower, bring back a fan favorite from Triple-A Iowa. In the early going, the Chicago Cubs have routinely massacred left-handed pitching and, with the addition of Patrick Wisdom back into the mix, that lineup only gets more dangerous for opposing southpaws. Wisdom, who has amassed 76 home runs over the last three seasons, was spotted at Wrigley Field on Thursday afternoon - all but ensuring he'll be back in the Cubs lineup this weekend against the Marlins. The 32-year-old got off to a hot start at Triple-A Iowa as he worked his way back from a back injury, posting a 1.417 OPS in nine games, hitting three home runs and driving in 10. Wisdom has seen time in the outfield during the last week in Iowa, which is where he'll likely figure into the team's plans in the short term, with Seiya Suzuki out for the next month with an oblique injury. An IL stint for Patrick Wisdom and Dominic Smith opting out of his minor league deal with the team cleared the way for veteran infielder Garrett Cooper to reportedly make the Chicago Cubs Opening Day roster. Anyone who regularly reads my work here knows that I've been high on what Cooper has to offer all spring long and have regularly said that if it came down to carrying either Wisdom or Cooper, I'm taking the latter. While that decision won't need to be made (at least not right now), Chicago now has a guy capable of platooning with Michael Busch at first and getting regular ABs as the DH. As for Smith, the road to playing time got a lot murkier once Chicago re-signed Cody Bellinger (not to mention, Cooper, who came in after Smith signed, as well). | 3/13/24 | Cubs walk off Brewers. A Cactus League game under the lights Tuesday in Mesa had the Chicago Cubs walk off the Milwaukee Brewers 6-5. Patrick Wisdom ended the game with a solo home run in the bottom of the ninth off Milwaukee reliever James Meeker. Starter Colin Rea was solid for the Crew working four hitless innings while striking out 7 with only one walk. The Cubs tallied four runs in the 5th as Abner Uribe gave up all four runs on four hits in just a third of an inning. Williams Contreras had a big night at the plate going three for four with four runs driven in. | 3/05/24 | Injury update: Cubs' Patrick Wisdom has one more hurdle to clear before returning. Last Thursday, the Cubs scratched Wisdom from the lineup, and he hasn't appeared in a game since. Wisdom targeted the Cubs' game Tuesday against the Royals to return to playing. Wisdom told manager Craig Counsell he could give about 75%. There are still three more weeks left in spring training.
