12/05/23 Austin Meadows no longer a Tiger, but team still pulling for him. The Detroit Tigers non-tendered outfielder Austin Meadows last month after he missed most of the last two seasons due to anxiety issues. When we get to a point in which he wants to talk about what comes next in his baseball life, we'll be ready to have that conversation.

11/15/23 Austin Meadows' status should be more clear by Friday's deadline. One deadline has come and gone. The next one is coming on Friday and it's likely to bring more attrition to the Detroit Tigers' roster. On Tuesday, the Tigers added two prospects to the roster at the deadline for setting reserve lists before next month's Rule 5 Draft. In a corresponding move, two pitchers were cut . Friday is the non-tender deadline, which is the final day the Tigers can part ways with players under team control to whom they don't wish to offer a 2024 contract. The deadline is often a time for MLB teams to ditch arbitration-eligible players who will make too much money in 2024, but even players making the minimum salary can be vulnerable to non-tenders. The Tigers have already

10/02/23 Tigers will check in with Austin Meadows soon to determine next step. Detroit Tigers president of baseball operations Scott Harris said he plans to check in with Austin Meadows this month to get a read on what the future will hold for the former All-Star outfielder. Meadows has missed most of the last two seasons with anxiety issues and has been based at his home in Florida for most of the summer. Harris said he hasn't talked to Meadows in a few months but plans to do so soon. The Tigers will almost certainly non-tender Meadows at some point in the next month, but that is a mere formality to avoid being tied to the $4 million or so they would otherwise be obliged to pay him in 2024.

9/11/23 Austin Meadows won't play again in 2023. Is his Tigers' tenure over?. It had long been clear that Austin Meadows wasn't going to return to the Detroit Tigers in 2023, but this weekend a simple housekeeping move prompted the team to make it official. The Tigers needed space for rookie pitcher Sawyer Gipson-Long. “It's a weird conversation to have about a locker, but it does signal the end of his season,” manager AJ Hinch told reporters this weekend. The move doesn't necessarily signal the end of Meadows' career or even his Tigers' tenure, but it certainly puts both things in doubt.

6/02/23 Several Tigers prospects are trying out new positions this week. It wasn't long ago that the Detroit Tigers seemingly had too many left-handed hitting outfielders. Then Austin Meadows, Kerry Carpenter and -- most recently -- Riley Greene went on the injured list. Now the Tigers could probably use another one. The more positions a player can handle, the more likely he is to get a ticket to the big leagues.

4/01/23 Three-hit opener helps Tigers' Meadows put '22 struggles in rear-view. “That was pretty cool,” said Tigers outfielder Austin Meadows who drew a warm ovation from the sellout crowd at Tropicana Field before Thursday's season opener. Meadows, who spent three-plus seasons with the Rays and still keeps his home in the Tampa area (Apollo Beach), threatened to turn those cheers to jeers, though, collecting three hits against his former mates, including a lefty-on-lefty double against starter Shane McClanahan. “I will definitely take that,” Meadows said. The Tigers acquired Meadows from the Rays for Isaac Paredes before last season but, as manager AJ Hinch said before Saturday's game, it feels like they got a new player.

4/01/23 Top Dynasty Keepers – Bohm, Gorman And Meadows. Finally, after months of waiting, the regular season is here. The pomp and circumstance of Opening Day on Thursday has come and gone, but we now have months and months remaining of the best game on Earth! That means we have months and months to discuss who may or may not be some of the best dynasty keepers. This week, I am spotlighting three players who I actually think are all solid dynasty keepers but at varying levels of success. The Players The three players under the spotlight this week are Austin Meadows, Alex Bohm and Nolan Gorman. Meadows was drafted 9th overall in the 2013 draft by the Pittsburgh Pirates and was a top 100 prospects every year he was in the minors. He was first ranked 45th in 2014 by MLB.com, 49th by Baseball America and 89th by Baseball Prospectus. He eventually rose as high as 6th by BA, 10th by MLB and 6th by BP in 2017 before finally making his debut in 2018 with the Pirates. Bohm was a standout at Wichita State University, leading the Phillies to select him with the third overall pick in 2018. With the Shockers, Bohm hit .317/.393/.548 with 33 homers and 125 RBI in 166 games over three seasons. By 2020, he was ranked as the 28th best prospect by BA, 20th by MLB and 40th by BP. Gorman is the youngest of this group, entering the season as a 23-year-old. Like Meadows and Bohm, he was a first-round selection as the Cardinals drafted him with the 19th pick in the 2018 draft.
