7/09/25 Time for a New York Mets Reunion?. Luis Severino signed a three-year, $67 million contract with the A's this past winter and now all signs seem to point to a split between the two parties. Severino has pitched extremely poorly this season and not lived up to the contract the A's handed him. The A's were hopeful that bringing in a veteran pitcher like Severino would lead to more consistency in the rotation, and the exact opposite has happened. It is not just the poor performance that could lead to a split between the A's and Severino; it is the comments about the A's current home, Sutter Health Park.

7/08/25 Mets trade idea reunites team with $67 million 2-time All-Star. The New York Mets' starting rotation could use some reinforcements near the trade deadline. Luis Severino played for the Mets last season, after eight seasons with the New York Yankees. Severino has struggled overall this year, pitching to a 5.30 ERA. USA Today's Bob Nightengale revealed that the Athletics "can't wait" to trade Luis Severino.

7/08/25 Atlanta Braves Visit A's in a Get-Right Series For One Club. Neither the Atlanta Braves nor the Athletics are having the seasons they envisioned for themselves when the year began. For Atlanta, injuries have been a big factor in their poor performance, leading to a 39-50 record entering this three-game series in West Sacramento. For the A's (37-55), their pitching staff hasn't made the jump they were hoping for when they added Luis Severino and Jeffrey Springs to the rotation. Atlanta is just 2-8 in their last ten, while also riding a four-game losing streak that included a weekend sweep at the hands of the Baltimore Orioles in Atlanta.

7/08/25 Luis Severino reunion 'could appeal' to Mets in this scenario, per insider. In a June 27 article from Brendan Kuty of The Athletic, Athletics pitcher Luis Severino (who spent the 2024 season with the New York Mets, posting an 11-7 regular season record with a 3.91 ERA and 161 strikeouts in 182 innings pitched) expressed his frustration with his current home stadium. “It feels like a spring training kind of game every time I pitch, and every time other guys pitch,” Severino said. As if this quote wasn't evidence enough, Severino's 0-8 record and 7.04 ERA during home games this season, compared to his 3.04 road ERA, show this pairing has simply not worked out.

7/06/25 [MLB: Athletics] - 'Not good': Severino, A's still searching for cause of veteran's struggles. WEST SACRAMENTO -- Simply put, this is not the Luis Severino that the Athletics were expecting to get over the first half of the 2025 season. 7/03/25 Luis Severino's Stadium Frustration Fuels Trade Speculation. Luis Severino, a 31-year-old right-hander who spent the 2024 MLB season with the New York Mets, has found himself at the center of trade rumors during his first season with the Oakland Athletics. On June 24, ESPN MLB insiders Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel reported that the Mets are considered one of the top trade fits for Severino if the Athletics decide to deal him before the July 31 trade deadline.

7/01/25 [Newsweek] - MLB Insider 'Would Be Surprised' If Athletics Don't Trade $67 Million Starter. The Athletics signed Luis Severino to a three-year contract this offseason, and among his struggles at home in Sacramento, he has been fantastic on the road.

7/01/25 Could Brewers Actually Acquire Former Yankees All-Star?. The Milwaukee Brewers are a team that already has a lot of pitching, but that hasn't stopped speculation with the trade deadline quickly approaching. For example, Athletics On SI's Jason Burke speculated that former All-Star Luis Severino could be a potential fit for Milwaukee. "It appears as though the Athletics are at the very least open to trading the ace of their staff, if not openly shopping him according to recent reports, and one team that could end up benefitting from that is the Milwaukee Brewers," Burke said.

7/01/25 Why the Milwaukee Brewers Would be a Good Fit For A's Ace. It appears as though the Athletics are at the very least open to trading the ace of their staff, if not openly shopping him according to recent reports, and one team that could end up benefitting from that is the Milwaukee Brewers. Luis Severino holds a 2-9 record and a 5.09 ERA this season, though his numbers on the road have still been pretty good--even after being roughed up by the two best teams in the American League last week. Overall he holds a 3.04 ERA away from Sutter Health Park, and American Family Field has been one of the most pitcher-friendly parks in baseball over the past three years, so his home stats would also likely seen a boost. It also wouldn't hurt that Milwaukee is a pitching factory and they can turn guys into lights out arms on a routine basis.

6/30/25 [NBC Sports Bay Area] - Luis Severino addresses Athletics trade rumors, recent ballpark comments. Athletics ace Luis Severino on Sunday addressed the trade rumors involving him and his controversial comments about playing at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. “I mean, if they trade me or not, I’m going to keep grinding, trying to be my best self, going out there,” Severino told reporters before the A’s 12-5 loss to the Yankees. “I can’t do nothing about if they get mad or not. If you ask me how I feel about pitching at home, I’m not going to lie to you, because in the end, you guys are going to figure out if it’s a lie or not. So my job here is to pitch, and every time you ask me a question, [I am] honest with you guys, so that’s what I did. “I was not trying to hurt nobody’s feelings by saying that. But I think I’m not the only one who feels the same way. As I said, I’m going to try my best to focus on what I need to do and improve. I feel pretty good; I feel healthy; I feel like the movement on my pitches is there. I just need to get in a good stretch.” Severino was asked about the recent trade rumors ?? — Athletics on NBCS (@NBCSAthletics) Severino, 0-7 with a 6.79 ERA at home during the 2025 MLB season, didn’t hold back. He clearly isn’t a fan of the big-league experience at Sutter Health Park, also the home of the Sacramento River Cats, the San Francisco Giants’ Triple-A affiliate. Severino, too, suggested that other A’s players feel similarly. Severino’s latest comments align with what he told on Friday before the A’s dropped the series-opener against the ace’s former team. “It feels like a spring training kind of game every time I pitch, and every time other guys pitch,” Severino said about playing at Sutter Health Ballpark. “We don’t have that at home right now,” Severino added about the environment in West Sacramento. “It’s not the same. It’s not the same atmosphere. We don’t have a lot of fans. Our clubhouse is in left field. So, when we play day games, we have to just be in the sun. There’s no air conditioning there, too. It’s really tough.” The 31-year-old Severino couldn’t have more since signing a three-year free-agent contract worth up to $67 million with an opt-out after the second season — an A’s franchise-record deal — in the winter. Then, Severino was optimistic about the A’s temporary home, and general manager David Forst was proud of what the partnership signaled toward MLB players skeptical about pro ball in West Sacramento. “We’ve sent plans to players so they can see what we’re building,” Forst said at on Dec. 6. “We’re doing the best we can to make this a Major League facility. We’ve embraced it. The fact Luis is here today hopefully sends a message around the game.” Well, Severino might not be around for much longer. The vibes around Severino’s standing with the A’s are murky. And on Sunday that the Green and Gold plan to move on from Severino. “The Athletics, who gave starter Luis Severino a three-year, $67 million contract, are now open to trading him after he continues to bash the environment in Sacramento, agitating the organization,” Nightengale wrote. “He’s 0-7 with a 6.79 ERA in 10 starts in Sacramento and 2-1 with a 2.27 ERA in seven starts on the road. … “It may come as a surprise if he’s still with the organization come August.” Severino’s time with the A’s might be coming to an end sooner rather than later. And maybe, it would be best for the two parties to split, as neither side has gotten what they wanted thus far. The A’s are 34-52 with a month before the MLB trade deadline on July 31.

6/30/25 What Would a Cubs-A's Trade for Luis Severino Look Like? Here's One Proposal. After yesterday's report that the Athletics "can't wait" to trade Luis Severino, and a report last week that the Chicago Cubs are keeping an eye on the A's ace, it feels like a good time to put together a trade proposal between the two clubs. As for the what the A's would give up, in this proposal, we have Luis Severino, infield prospect Darell Hernaiz, and $15 million headed to Chicago. Hernaiz doesn't appear likely to get another shot with the green and gold, and with Severino due roughly $10 million this season, and $25 million next season, $15 million seemed like a good starting point. Severino also has a player option for the 2027 campaign, which is worth $22 million.

6/30/25 Former Yankees pitcher who keeps trashing current team is now on trade block. Right-hander Luis Severino just joined the Athletics a few months ago, but his stint may already be over before the end of July. Severino, who called New York home for his entire MLB career after eight seasons with the Yankees and one with the Mets, signed a three-year, $67 million contract with the A's this offseason. Sunday, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reported that the team “can't wait” to trade the starter after comments he's made about their current home field in Sacramento. “I can't do nothing about if they get mad or not,” he said after a 12-5 loss in his start against the Yankees on Sunday, via The Athletic.

6/28/25 Cubs 'Keeping a Close Eye' on Former Two-Time Yankees All-Star. The comfortable division lead the Chicago Cubs once had is now down to just two games. In the midst of a successful season thus far, it has to be a bit deflating to see the Milwaukee Brewers sitting with a 46-36 record entering Saturday's action when they were supposed to be resetting things a bit. Jed Hoyer has not been shy, stating those are the two areas he's going to go after. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, two-time All-Star Luis Severino is on that list, with the insider reporting Chicago is "scouring the market for a starter" and are "keeping a close eye on" the veteran right-hander.
