1/18/24 The Yankees, now more than ever, need their bench to perform in 2024. The Yankees' 2023 Opening Day roster featured Franchy Cordero, Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Kyle Higashioka, Estevan Florial, and Aaron Hicks/Oswaldo Cabrera on the bench. Only Cabrera has a shot at the roster by virtue of still being with the organization, and his presence on the 2024 Opening Day is from certain and will likely depend on many factors including but not limited to spring training performance. The 2023 Yankees downplayed the importance of depth and a solid bench (or misevaluated a lot of players, and we don't know which one is worse) and paid the price. If the season started today, the Yanks' bench would probably feature Austin Wells, Oswaldo Cabrera, Oswald Peraza, and Trent Grisham.

11/06/23 Yankees Officially Release Pair Of Ex-Red Sox Players With Free Agency Looming. Yankees Officially Release Pair Of Ex-Red Sox Players With Free Agency Looming Will Boston target a reunion? Author: Stephen Mottram Publish date: Nov 6, 2023 5:02 PM EST In this story: Boston Red Sox New York Yankees The Boston Red Sox could bring back two familiar faces after they elected free agency Monday. The New York Yankees are coming off another failed season, and already are changing up their roster. The Red Sox are in a similar spot and now have an opportunity to sweep up some of New York's recently released vets, two of which also have a history in Beantown. The Yankees announced that both Franchy Cordero and Ryan Weber were outrighted, and as of Monday, both have opted to elect

Ex-Red Sox Slugger Appears To Be Odd Man Out Of Yankees Roster Heading Into Offseason An old friend appears to be an early candidate for release this winter Author: Scott Neville Publish date: Sep 25, 2023 12:23 PM EDT In this story: Boston Red Sox New York Yankees The New York Yankees waited until the very last minute to fill out their Opening Day roster this season, calling upon a former Boston Red Sox slugger to complete their team. That slugger was outfielder Franchy Cordero, who, less than one year later, appears to be one of the lowest men on the Yankees 40-man roster. "Cordero's powerful first impression with the Yankees feels like an eternity ago," NJ.com's Max Goodman wrote Monday.

9/22/23 Yankees Mailbag: 40-man roster crunches and the Giancarlo Stanton question. Bronx Munsonites asks: Why are the Yankees still carrying Franchy Cordero on the 40 man roster? What does the 40 man off-season look like going forward? As to why Cordero is still on the 40-man, that's probably just as simple as the Yankees didn't feel they had any more reasonable prospects to promote. Cordero's still clinging to his 40-man because no one's really demanded it from him.

9/11/23 Yankees call up Estevan Florial, send Jasson Domínguez to IL. The next day, the 25-year-old was designated for assignment since the team had signed Franchy Cordero and also wanted to make room for a reliever who was not long for the roster, either (Colten Brewer). Although there was some thought that a second-division team might claim Florial to give him a chance, he cleared waivers and reported to Triple-A Scranton. Florial did what he could, but the Yankees still elected to roll out the likes of Cordero, Willie Calhoun, Greg Allen, Jake Bauers, and Billy McKinney instead of him while also leapfrogging Everson Pereira and Jasson Domínguez over Florial.

8/16/23 Minor Lines 8/15: Drohan K's 10 but Franchy Cordero (Grrr!) Bests Fernandez in 9th. Worcester comfortably led this game until the top of the ninth when old friend Franchy Cordero hit a two-run home run off Ryan Fernandez. In dramatic fashion, with Fernandez one strike away from shutting it all down, he gave up a solo home run instead to tie it up. The RailRiders then plated the go-ahead run later that inning. Worcester had a chance to answer in the bottom of the ninth, and it looked promising as Bobby Dalbec led off with a walk.

7/22/23 New York Yankees vs. Kansas City Royals: Gerrit Cole vs. Brady Singer. A couple of big swings gave the Yankees just enough to win the series opener — namely home runs for Franchy Cordero and the scorching Billy McKinney. The W is the important part, but a tense five-hit, one-run victory against this Royals team didn't assuage many concerns about the next 64 games. Giancarlo Stanton squared a couple of fly balls up to the warning track, but no dice. Anthony Rizzo also went hitless and still hasn't homered in since mid-May.

7/08/23 Yankees Add Ex-Red Sox Slugger To MLB Roster To Replace Injured Outfielder. Yankees Add Ex-Red Sox Slugger To MLB Roster To Replace Injured Outfielder New York has turned to an old friend once again Author: Scott Neville Publish date: Jul 8, 2023 1:55 PM EDT In this story: Boston Red Sox New York Yankees The New York Yankees have turned to the same former Boston Red Sox outfielder at multiple points throughout the season, and have done so once again. The Yankees called up Franchy Cordero prior to Friday's game against the Chicago Cubs to replace outfielder Jake Bauers (left rotator cuff contusion), who was just placed on the 10-day injured list. New York's decision to call up Cordero is stunning. Yes, the Yankees are down to their last bit of outfield depth,

Franchy Cordero, one of the left-handed bats the Yankees have auditioned in the left field this season, was struck in the side of the head by a ground ball while playing first base for the Scranton RailRiders on Tuesday night. 5/11/23 Do Yankees have this season's Matt Carpenter waiting in minors?. The Yankees signed former Padres and Boston Red Sox outfielder Franchy Cordero in an attempt to fill that hole, but after a hot start in which he became the first player in club history to record four or more homers and 11 or more RBIs in his first seven games with the team, he completely fizzled out. Cordero was optioned to Triple-A in late April after going hitless for 21 consecutive at-bats, leaving the Yankees in the same place they started the offseason in.

5/02/23 Time is up for Willie Calhoun and Franchy Cordero. Maybe your relationship with your partner has deteriorated too much, or your stomach just can't handle three slices of pizza like you used to, or you thought you could fix Franchy Cordero and/or Willie Calhoun and you were just straight up wrong! The acquisition of Franchy Cordero before the season was surprising! Through 30 plate appearances, he looked like the next coming of Matt Carpenter. After that, well, he was regular ol' Franchy Cordero.

4/29/23 Yankees dump fizzling Franchy Cordero for Jake Bauers. Franchy Cordero ran out of chances to show the Yankees something. Cordero had another awful showing Friday night in the Yankees' 5-2 loss to the Rangers, at the plate and in right field. Cordero was farmed out after going 0-for-3 with two strikeouts, leaving him hitless in his last 21 at-bats and batting .151 in 18 games. “It's been a struggle since really having some impactful games for us early,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said.

4/25/23 Regression is already hitting Franchy Cordero hard. The Franchy Cordero experiment started off with a bang. After an impressive spring training with the Baltimore Orioles, he didn't make the team and the Yankees snatched him on the cheap. In his first seven games in pinstripes, the lefty-hitting outfielder was hitting a cool .280/.333/.800 with four homers and a 208 wRC+. Well, the regression monster is hitting Cordero really hard right now.

4/12/23 Former Red Sox Franchy Cordero Makes History With Yankees. It only took seven games but former Boston Red Sox Franchy Cordero has already written his name in the New York Yankees history books. Cordero found his way to New York after an impressive stretch with the Baltimore Orioles in spring training — .413/.426/.674, two home runs, four doubles and nine RBIs — that wasn't enough to earn him a big league roster spot before Opening Day. The Yankees then scooped up the 28-year-old and signed Cordero to a one-year contract. While New York defeated the Cleveland Guardians, 4-3, Wednesday, Cordero launched his fourth home run of the year, giving him 11 RBIs and also making him the first Yankees player to ever record 11-plus RBIs through their first seven games with the team, according to ESPN Stats & Info.

4/12/23 Yankees' Effusive Praise For Franchy Cordero Might Pain Red Sox Fans. The past nine days were pretty rough for Red Sox fans, who saw their favorite team lose 5-8 eight games and the hottest player go down with a serious injury. All the while, the Fenway Faithful has been forced to watch a former Boston player light it up with the club's fiercest rival. Signing Franchy Cordero on Opening Day proved to be a prudent move by the Yankees, who saw immediate returns on their investment. Through 21 at-bats with New York, Cordero launched three home runs, collected 10 RBIs and helped the Bronx Bombers win four of the six games he played.

4/12/23 Yankees go for another series win in Cleveland. The New York Yankees look to win their fourth straight series to open the season when they face the host Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday afternoon. After dropping the opener of the three-game set 3-2 on Monday, the Yankees overcame a two-run first-inning deficit by scoring eight times over the next three innings en route to an 11-2 win on Tuesday. Franchy Cordero went 1-for-4 with his three-run homer highlighting a five-run third inning that broke the game open for the Yankees.
