"There are some cool days in baseball, and I’ve had a lot of them," said Giants manager Bob Melvin. "This is one of them."

5/03/24 Mike Yaz homers at Fenway after visit from Hall of Fame grandfather; Giants beat Red Sox 3-1. Mike Yastrzemski had a visit from his grandfather Carl and then homered into the Red Sox bullpen like the Hall of Fame outfielder so often did in his heyday, and the San Francisco Giants beat Boston 3-1 on Thursday. Ryan Walker (3-2) pitched a perfect sixth inning to help the Giants avoid the sweep and snap Boston's four-game winning streak.

4/29/24 Mike Yastrzemski on Fenway Park return for SF Giants: 'It's always special'. For the first time since his rookie season, Mike Yastrzemski will get to play on the same field that his grandfather did for 23 seasons. Yastrzemski, 33, last played in Fenway Park in 2019. With the Giants heading to Boston for a three-game series against the Red Sox starting on Tuesday, he'll have another chance to play in front of fans who have idolized his last name for generations. “Excited to get back,” Yastrzemski said Sunday morning at his locker.

4/22/24 San Francisco Giants Star Believes He's Out Of Slump Following First Homer. San Francisco Giants Star Believes He's Out Of Slump Following First Homer Sometimes all a player needs to get out of a slump is one big hit, and that's what a San Francisco Giants star thinks happened to him. Author: Brad Wakai Apr 23, 2024 In this story: San Francisco Giants MLB Mike Yastrzemski The San Francisco Giants ' offense hasn't quite looked like the front officed envisioned when they added slugger Jorge Soler and Korean star Jung Hoo Lee to their lineup. Entering Monday, they sit 18th in total runs scored (95) and 19th in homers (21). A major reason for that is because their star player Mike Yastrzemski started out the season in a huge slump. 4/07/24 How Jung Hoo Lee is learning to patrol Oracle Park's outfield. Add roaming the majors' most difficult outfield to the list of cultural, lingual and baseball adjustments Jung Hoo Lee is facing in his transition from Korea to the major leagues. In his second game at Oracle Park, the 25-year-old center fielder got an introduction to the unique natural elements that led Mike Yastrzemski, who knows this grass better than anyone, to distinguish the Giants' waterfront ballpark to be “the hardest outfield to play.” With first pitch at 6:06 p.m. Saturday, the sun was still glaring behind home plate when Padres leadoff man Xander Bogaerts lifted a pop fly to shallow center field. It should have been a routine play, but Lee lost the ball in the sun from the moment it left Bogaerts' bat, falling to the grass for a base hit.

4/05/24 Giants take their home opener, beating the Padres 3-2. Bob Melvin allowed himself to become nostalgic ever so briefly during his first home game managing the San Francisco Giants. The Giants earned him a victory on a day it meant so much to their new manager, who appreciated being recognized but is ready for the focus to be on his team. “I think it's a special moment for him but I think that narrative is kind of getting a little old for him,” outfielder Mike Yastrzemski said. Thairo Estrada doubled home Matt Chapman for the winning run with one out in the ninth inning, and San Francisco beat Melvin's former San Diego Padres 3-2 on Friday.

2/28/24 SF Giants-A's: Yastrzemski on track for Opening Day; Melvin calls out club still seeking first win. Both sides of the San Francisco Giants' planned right field platoon have been hampered by health issues to begin spring training, but both players appear to be turning a corner and on track for the regular season, with Mike Yastrzemski making his Cactus League debut Wednesday. Yastrzemski, 33, pointed to the outcome of the two times he put the ball in play as evidence why he's isn't concerned by his delayed start. In a 7-4 exhibition loss to the A's, he came to the plate three times as the designated hitter, drawing a walk and twice flying out to left field. “I got beat a little bit, but the fact that I'm executing what I'm trying to do on day one is really promising for me,” Yastrzemski said.

1/21/24 Player Review: Mike Yastrzemski. Mike Yastrzemski is the San Francisco Giant of the Farhan Zaidi era. A stolid platoon with veteran steadiness, echoing Buster Posey, Evan Longoria, Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford without their peaks, but the added thrill of name recognition while being plucked from obscurity.

12/13/23 Heyman: Jung Hoo Lee signing doesn't necessarily take Giants out of running for Cody Bellinger. With the addition of Jung Hoo Lee, the San Francisco Giants' outfield is set, right? The Giants made their first splash of the offseason with the KBO star, signing the 25-year-old to a six-year, $113 million deal. Assuming Lee is the center fielder, that would leave Mike Yastrzemski and Michael Conforto as the corner outfielders.

11/18/23 Giants sign Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Slater to 1-year deals. Last night was the tender deadline for arbitration and pre-arbitration eligible players and the San Francisco Giants announced they've agreed to terms with two of those players. Six weeks ago, I looked at MLB Trade Rumor's arbitration projections for their six eligible players, Mike Yastrzemski and Austin Slater. In perhaps a sign that MLBTR's processes might need to be adjusted, the Giants actually agreed to terms higher than those projections. Yastrzemski got a 1-year, $7.9 million deal in his second year of eligibility and Austin Slater received $4 million flat in 2024.

11/17/23 Mike Yastrzemski, Giants agree to $7.9 million contract for 2024. The San Francisco Giants' offseason so far has been highlighted by the firing of Gabe Kapler and the hiring of Bob Melvin as their next skipper. Yastrzemski inked a deal last fall of just over $6 million in order to avoid arbitration and it's a similar situation this time around. The 33-year-old has spent his entire big league career with the Giants, initially coming up in 2019. Yastrzemski does play all over the outfield for San Francisco and has proven to be a pretty consistent player on both sides of the ball during his time in the Majors.

9/22/23 Yastrzemski's homer, Manaea's gem lead SF Giants to win over Dodgers. A night after Mike Yastrzemski called on his teammates to “play with a little more edge,” “take a little more pride” and “hold each other to a higher standard,” he atoned for his own mental mistake in Thursday night's series-opening loss with a big homer to lead the way in a 5-1 win Friday. With two outs in the fourth inning, Yastrzemski hooked a two-run homer around the right-field foul pole that broke a scoreless tie and powered the Giants' win over the Dodgers (94-59), only their second in eight games on this final road trip of the season, pulling them back even in the win-loss column. Yastrzemski's homer, his 15th of the season, followed a pinch-hit double by Joc Pederson, and was padded by two more long balls, a solo shot from Thairo Estrada in the sixth and two-run number from rookie Tyler Fitzgerald in the ninth, the first of his career.

9/22/23 Dodgers capitalize on Giants' physical and mental blunders to win 7-2. J.D. Martinez’s sacrifice fly drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning and the Los Angeles Dodgers capitalized on two physical and one mental blunder by the San Francisco Giants to win 7-2. The Giants have dropped six of seven on their road trip to fall further out of the NL wild-card race. Will Smith scored from third on Martinez's sac fly when right fielder Mike Yastrzemski appeared to forget there were only two outs. The Dodgers tacked on two more runs in the seventh on two wild pitches by Giants reliever Luke Jackson.
