The Giants haven't had multiple players win the Gold Glove Award in a single season since 2016, but that could very well change this year. Third baseman Matt Chapman, catcher Patrick Bailey and right fielder Mike Yastrzemski have all been named finalists for the Gold Glove Award at their respective positions, Rawlings announced on Tuesday morning. Other notable finalists also include Fremont's Steven Kwan (Guardians), as well as former A's first baseman Matt Olson (Braves), second baseman Marcus Semien (Rangers) and third baseman Ernie Clement (Blue Jays). The San Francisco Giants are heading into a big offseason, as the franchise is looking to improve drastically with new leadership. This winter, the number one goal for the Giants will be to try and lure a star to the Bay Area. San Francisco has been unsuccessful in trying to do so in recent years, but they were able to convince Matt Chapman to sign a big extension during the season and forgo free agency. 10/07/24 | Giants could target Cardinals slugger after disappointing 2024 season. The San Francisco Giants finished under .500 for the second consecutive year and missed the postseason yet again. The team hasn't been to the postseason since winning the National League West in 2021, and they may be due for some big changes this offseason. The team has already extended third baseman Matt Chapman, but they are going to need a big bat to go with the slugger if they want to climb back towards contention in 2025. Josh Jacobs of FanSided listed San Francisco as a possible fit for catcher Willson Contreras in the event that the St. Louis Cardinals trade him. 9/28/24 | Downfall of San Francisco Giants Pitcher the 'Biggest Shocker' in 2024 Season. There were a lot of things that didn't go well for the San Francisco Giants during the 2024 season. The only move that truly panned out was third baseman Matt Chapman. Blake Snell was solid after returning from a second injured list stint in July, but the other moves were all duds. While the performances of Jorge Soler and Robbie Ray left a lot to be desired, it paled in comparison to what happened with All-Star relief pitcher Camilo Doval. 9/27/24 | Who Were the San Francisco Giants Top Position Players in 2024 Season?. The 2024 MLB regular season was a disappointing one overall for the San Francisco Giants . They are missing the postseason for the third straight year and the seventh time out of the last eight; their only appearance was in 2021 when they won 107 games. 2022 is the only other time in this stretch they even finished .500. Despite the lack of success in the win column, there were a few positive takeaways for the team. The biggest, in the opinion of Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report , was the performance of Matt Chapman. “Matt Chapman has been nothing short of excellent in his first season with the Giants, posting a 126 OPS+ with 36 doubles, 27 home runs and 78 RBI while playing his usual stellar defense Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/giants/san-francisco-giants... |
9/25/24 | How the San Francisco Giants End the Season Could Impact Their Offseason. With a new regime in place, the San Francisco Giants went out and made a few splash moves before the 2024 season. As a team that has been defined by missing out on free agent after free agent, they made some big splash moves, grabbing Jung Hoo Lee, Matt Chapman, Blake Snell and Jorge Soler. Although the season hasn't gone as the team envisioned, the final week of the season and the role they play in it could be a factor in their offseason. It's pretty much a foregone conclusion that Blake Snell will be opting out of his contract and heading back to free agency. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/giants/san-francisco-giants... |

9/22/24 | Legend's Meeting With San Francisco Giants Matt Chapman Wasn't About Contract. San Francisco Giants legend Buster Posey has played a big role in the organization since he decided to hang it up. Now a minority owner, the hope and expectation is for Posey to continue to do so. Having the all-time great speak with free agents should be a big help as the Giants look to land a star in the future. Posey was involved with San Francisco keeping Matt Chapman around, who recently signed a six-year, $151 million deal. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/giants/san-francisco-giants... |
9/22/24 | The important message Buster Posey sent Matt Chapman before $151 million contract. The San Francisco Giants won't be finding their way into the postseason this year, but there are a couple reasons to believe that there are better days ahead for the team. One of the main ones is the fact that the team managed to lock up star third baseman Matt Chapman on a six-year, $151 million contract extension earlier this month, and it sounds like one of their former players in Buster Posey played a big role in convincing him to stay in town. Posey played his entire career in the MLB with the Giants, and ended up becoming a minority owner with the team after he retired. It was reported that Posey played a big role in convincing Chapman to extend his contract with San Francisco, and he managed to do that by telling the third baseman that the front office was committed to spending big this offseason in an effort to build around him. 9/17/24 | Could San Francisco Giants Finally Move on From Zaidi After Recent Negotiations?. The San Francisco Giants have a big decision to make, and they don't have much time. Is it time to move on from President of Baseball Operations Farhan Zaidi? It isn't a new thought that the top executive in the Giants front office is on the hot seat. Although the initial expectation that the Giants would remain with the same people in charge after making an aggressive contract extension with third baseman Matt Chapman, recent reports of how the deal got finalized is beginning to raise questions on who is actually in control in the front office. 9/17/24 | San Francisco Giants are Focusing on a Key Detail Late in the Season. In what's been a frustrating season for the San Francisco Giants, both offensively and from an injury standpoint, there has been one thing bugging Bob Melvin: fundamentals on defense. The Giants brought in Matt Chapman to be the anchor at third and Jung Hoo Lee to do the same in centerfield. Lee has been out for the majority of the season, which is what began the trend of San Francisco having players out of position. One player emblematic of this is Marco Luciano.
