3/14/25 | Angels' Anthony Rendon Replacement Scratched From Lineup With Injury. Los Angeles Angels third baseman Yoan Moncada was scratched from Friday's lineup with thumb soreness. Utility man Luis Rengifo replaced Moncada in the lineup and is now starting at third base. Rengifo was scratched from the lineup twice earlier this spring because of hamstring tightness, but appears to be progressing well. Rengifo was originally scheduled to compete in the Angels' road game, but instead, will play in place of Moncada in Tempe. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/angels/angels-news/angels-a... |
2/22/25 | Free Agent Says He Chose Angels Over Other Offers to Play With Mike Trout. Los Angeles Angels third baseman Yoan Moncada chose the Halos over other team's in his free agency process. One reason for Moncada's decision to play in Anaheim was the opportunity to play alongside Mike Trout, one of baseball's brightest stars. “Being here is a new opportunity for me, so I'm taking advantage of it,” Moncada said through interpreter Marco Peralta. 2/21/25 | Angels' $5 Million Infielder Behind Schedule Due to Soreness. Los Angeles Angels third baseman Yoan Moncada is a few days behind the other position players due to soreness, according to manager Ron Washington. Moncada is looking to bounce back in 2025 after a disappointing season with the Chicago White Sox in which he only played 12 games due to injury. While the Angels hope to escape the cellar of the American League, Moncada gives the Halos (hopefully) a more reliable option at the hot corner. Moncada's best performance came during the 2019 season where he slashed .315/.367/.548 with a career-high 25 home runs. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/angels/angels-news/angels-5... |
2/09/25 | Angels' $5 Million Free Agent Chose Halos Over Interested NL Contender. The Los Angeles Angels added third baseman Yoan Moncada to a one-year deal worth $5 million on Thursday night but had to fight a National League contender to get him. The Chicago Cubs reportedly expressed interest in Moncada and made an offer of approximately $3 million for one season, according to sources of baseball insider Francys Romero. Adding Moncada to the roster is significant because he exclusively plays the same position as Anthony Rendon, who has been a disappointment since signing a seven-year, $245 million contract in December 2019. With the addition of Moncada, who has primarily played third base over the past seven seasons, Rendon's role with the Angels becomes less certain. 2/08/25 | Angels' Recent Signing Solidifies Anthony Rendon Benching, Says Insider. The Los Angeles Angels signed infielder Yoan Moncada to a one-year, $5 million contract. Moncada's deal signaled the Angels are pivoting from Anthony Rendon and will likely have a new starting third baseman.
