| 8/29/24 | Yoan Moncada Limps Toward End Of An Eventful Run With White Sox. There were rumors the Red Sox were willing to trade 21-year-old infielder Yoan Moncada, whom they had acquired for a cost of $63 million, split between him and MLB's tax collectors. This happened while the White Sox were shopping their ace, Chris Sale, and sure enough a deal was done before the winter meetings were over — Sale for Moncada, pitcher Micheal Kopech and two other prospects. A seemingly unending series of injuries has contributed to Moncada being a highly overpaid player for much of the time since he received a five-year, $70 million extension before the 2020 season. The deal gives Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf and GM Chris Getz a choice between a $5 million buyout or paying him $25 million to try to rebound next season.
