4/23/24 Mets catchers working to improve behind the plate: 'Catchers are working on being quick and making an accurate' throw'. It took the Mets until late April to throw out a runner trying to steal a base, which wasn't what the team expected as they broke camp in Port St. Lucie. After prioritizing defense behind the plate during spring training, catchers Omar Narvaez and Francisco Alvarez looked like they had improved in just about every aspect. Alvarez in particular made excellent progress, showcasing a strong arm and quick times to the plate, getting into a stance with one knee down until seeing a runner take off. The 22-year-old looked primed for a successful second big league season when he went 8-for-8 behind the plate.

9/14/23 David Stearns primed to enhance Mets' culture: 'I loved the atmosphere he created'. Before signing a two-year, $15 million deal with the Mets over the winter, veteran catcher Omar Narvaez spent the previous three seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers — so there was some understandable excitement when reports emerged that David Stearns was hired as New York's new president of baseball operations. Narvaez is one of two Mets — the other being Daniel Vogelbach — who has past experience working under Stearns, who was the Brewers' general manager from 2015-2018 before serving as the organization's president of baseball operations from 2019-2022.

Saturday night after the Mets fell to the Los Angeles Dodgers, the manager informed catcher Omar Narvaez that he would be in the lineup for Sunday’s series finale. 6/05/23 Tomas Nido's message tips hand that time with Mets is running out. The Mets are going to carry two catchers on their big-league roster and when Omar Narvaez is set to come off the injured list on Tuesday, they'd have three between him, star youngster Francisco Alvarez, and Tomas Nido. Considering he and Nido don't have options to be sent to the minors, the only choice general manager Billy Eppler has is to designate either Narvaez and Nido for assignment or try to trade them to get them off the roster.

2/17/23 Milwaukee Brewers 2023 preview by position: Catcher. Looking back at our catcher preview from 2022, the Brewers have a completely new look behind the plate than they did at this time last year. With Omar Narvaez departing for the New York Mets in free agency, Pedro Severino suspended for a large chunk of the season and then released, Mario Feliciano designated for assignment and claimed by the Tigers, and Brett Sullivan traded to San Diego prior to the start of 2022, none of the top catchers from the roster last March remain on the team. Instead, the Brewers head into spring training with a new option in William Contreras along with some familiar faces in Victor Caratini and Alex Jackson, both of whom were acquired just prior to opening day last year.

2/13/23 Mets prioritizing defense for Francisco Alvarez and Brett Baty at spring training. After making their big league debuts last season, the hope is that the Mets' top prospects will be ready to produce consistently at that level this season. Alvarez, Baty and others will get plenty of opportunities to make the roster out of camp with so many key players leaving part of the way through to represent their respective countries in the World Baseball Classic. The Mets are losing their entire infield and catcher Omar Narvaez, so the club will use Alvarez, Baty, third baseman Mark Vientos and shortstop Ronny Mauricio heavily during the Grapefruit League season.
