8/06/24 | Guardians lefty survives terrible, horrible, no good, very bad inning in return to big leagues. What began as a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad start for Logan Allen turned into something special, even if the Guardians went on to lose Monday's series opener to the Diamondbacks, 7-6 in 10 innings. The question now for Allen is, was his gutsy effort enough to keep him in Cleveland's rotation with trade deadline reinforcement Alex Cobb and veteran lefty Matthew Boyd inching closer and closer to their season debuts? Allen gave up a home run on the first pitch he threw to Ketel Marte, and another to Gabriel Moreno just four pitches later. When Randal Grichuk smashed a 105 mph rocket off the side of Allen's head, it looked like his return to the big leagues after a month at Triple-A Columbus was over practically before it began. It represents a critical juncture for a Guardians pitching staff that has been one of the worst in baseball this season but could be getting some reinforcements at the right time. Not only is Allen preparing to take the mound, but in-season acquisitions Matthew Boyd and Alex Cobb are rehabbing and could be ready to join Cleveland's rotation soon.
