5/03/24 For Chicago White Sox shortstop Paul DeJong, a return to St. Louis brings perspective and ‘a lot of great memories’. ST. LOUIS — Paul DeJong compared Friday’s game to seeing an old friend. After spending parts of seven seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals, the Chicago White Sox shortstop returned to Busch Stadium as a visiting player for the first time. Sitting in the visiting dugout while talking to reporters before the game, DeJong noted, “It’s a different view.” “I’m just happy to be here with this team ...

5/01/24 All was bliss, but only for a while in White Sox' latest loss. On a delightful day for baseball, the White Sox hit a couple of homers and built a lead, all systems go for a rare victory. It felt like welcome to the merry, merry month of May after a horrendous four and a half weeks of .200 baseball. For the 6-25 Sox, though, it was more of the same: A blown lead, walks that killed them and a costly two-run error by shortstop Paul DeJong on a routine ground ball spelling doom in a 10-5 loss to the streaking Twins, who completed their second series sweep of the Sox in 10 days and winning their 10th game in a row. Chris Flexen allowed two runs over five innings, which doesn't even qualify as a quality start (six or more innings, three earned runs or fewer) but for these Sox, it was a “we'll take it” start nonetheless.

4/18/24 You can put it on the board ... no! Numbers don't look so good for White Sox. Paul DeJong's five-hit day just goes to show how quickly things can turn around. “In the beginning when everything is magnified, and on the scoreboard you're seeing .130 and .180, psychologically that affects some guys,” manager Pedro Grifol said.

3/17/24 Chicago White Sox Not Short Of Young Shortstop Prospects. The Chicago White Sox have a new shortstop for 2024 in veteran Paul DeJong. DeJong, 30, signed as a free agent in November for $1.75 million and can earn another $250,000 in performance bonuses. Chances are that if he plays well, he will be peddled off to a contender at the trading deadline by the rebuilding White Sox. Chicago already beefed up its' farm system last week by trading ace pitcher Dylan Cease to the San Diego Padres for three prospects — pitchers Drew Thorpe, 23, and Jairo Iriarte, 22, outfielder Samuel Zavala, 19, — and third-year MLB reliever Steven Wilson.

3/16/24 Walk this way: White Sox need free passes to fuel offense. The White Sox were last in walks in the major leagues last season. “When it comes to a team approach, getting walks is a key,” shortstop Paul DeJong said. Take the White Sox' 3-2 victory against the Cubs Friday, DeJong said. “The walk is something that can change the inning for us,” DeJong said.

New White Sox shortstop Paul DeJong hopes it starts with a fresh start with a new team going into spring training and a different, simpler hitting mindset of less video and swing analysis and more see the ball, hit the ball — with an emphasis on the opposite field and up the middle. “I want to feel it, I want to see the pitcher and let my natural ability shine with that,” said DeJong, who hit 74 home runs and 82 doubles for the Cardinals from 2017-19, his first three seasons. “Just to start from the beginning with a team is going to be great for me,” said DeJong, who encountered a difficult transition after playing seven seasons with the Cardinals — the only team he knew — to playing for the Blue Jays and Giants all in one season in 2023.

The 30-year-old graduate of Antioch High School will receive $1.75 million for one season. An above average fielder who struggled offensively with three teams in 2023, DeJong will fill the void left by 2019 batting champion and two-time All-Star Tim Anderson, whose $14 million club option for next season was not picked up after he batted a career low .245 with one homer and 14 errors in 119 games at shortstop in 2023.

8/24/23 Harper's heroics not enough for Phillies to complete sweep of Giants. Paul DeJong had a memorable first day with the Giants with a two-run homer in the fourth inning and a two-run single in the 10th in San Francisco's 8-6 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday.
