5/10/24 Austin Slater exits SF Giants-Reds game after crash into outfield fence. Already banged up, the Giants took another blow early in Friday's series opener against the Reds. Giving chase to a fly ball in the top of the first, Austin Slater crashed in the center field fence and an inning later was lifted for a pinch-hitter. The Giants did not immediately announce the reason for Slater's departure, though he was slow to get up from his encounter with the outfield wall and was shown walking down the dugout steps and into the clubhouse accompanied by head trainer Dave Groeschner.

3/07/24 Kurtenbach: 3 Up, 3 Down — What I'm liking (and hating) about SF Giants' and Oakland A's spring training so far. In recent years, the Giants built a lineup around versatility and platooning. It's clear that the Giants are moving away from that direction for this season. Sure, there will be some platooning at the bottom of the lineup, but the San Francisco roster seems as inflexible as ever. Austin Slater might slide in at a corner spot when there's a southpaw on the mound — Heliot Ramos or Luis Matos could do the same, though I expect them both to start the season in Sacramento — but I expect the Giants to roll out a three-man combo of Michael Conforto, Jung Hoo Lee, and Mike Yaztremski day in, day out.

3/04/24 Why LaMonte Wade Jr. is doing more work with MLB players' union. Wade, 30, was elevated to become the team's player representative with the union, the role Austin Slater previously held, acting as a funnel for any labor issues raised by the rest of the roster. When Slater, the Giants' player rep since 2020, took on a more powerful post last year as one of eight members of the pension committee, Wade voiced an interest in replacing him as their next player rep.

12/20/23 Player Review: Austin Slater. The 2023 season was, in many respects, vintage Austin Slater on display: lots of hard and loud contact, a stringy stache in May, beating up southpaws, and ridiculous bat flings. As for his role as a right-handed outfield platoon—his main gig—Slater posted an .800 OPS mark in his fifth consecutive season. The strain sent him back to the IL a couple weeks later, and it wasn't until June that he managed 40 plate appearances in a month. In total, Slater lost 100 PA and nearly half as many defensive innings in the outfield from the 2022 season.

11/13/23 Mon/Tues BP: The Giants are expected to drive Shohei Ohtani's price up. Among other things, Rule 5 protections must be in place on Tuesday, while Friday is the deadline for tendering or non-tendering a contract to arbitration-eligible players (though I wouldn't expect any surprises from the team's six such players, Austin Slater, Mike Yastrzemski, J.D. Davis, Tyler Rogers, Thairo Estrada, and LaMonte Wade Jr.).

9/19/23 SF Giants running out of time to solve road woes, salvage playoff hopes. PHOENIX — There's an old adage that is often applied across sports. Win half your road games, take care of business at home, and you've got yourself a playoff team. The San Francisco Giants have fulfilled half that equation. They are 43-32 at Oracle Park but just 33-42 away from the shores of McCovey Cove, and after dropping three of four at Coors Field over the weekend, have won only five of their previous 28 road games, a .152 winning percentage. Dating back to almost the All-Star break, no team has been worse away from home, a stretch of futility made only more perplexing given their 17-10 record at home during the same time. “I saw that stat,” outfielder Austin Slater said, “and honestly,

9/09/23 Giants' Luis Matos looks to provide spark in matchup vs. Rockies. The San Francisco Giants will get another opportunity to unleash a new weapon against the visiting Colorado Rockies on Saturday night when the National League West rivals continue their three-game series. Moved from seventh to first in the lineup in a late change due to dizziness experienced by leadoff man Austin Slater, Luis Matos provided a spark that had been missing during the Giants' six-game losing streak. Matos recorded a season-high three hits, including a pair of doubles, in his team's 9-8 win on Friday. Making his first major-league start as a leadoff hitter, Matos also walked and scored a run as the Giants (71-70) remained 2 1/2 games back in the NL wild-card race.

7/29/23 Taylor Swift-themed SF Giants game brings out all the hits. Taylor Swift's “Era's Tour” concert rocked Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara on Saturday night. Before Giants batters took their swings, and in between innings, the sounds of the pop star's expansive discography filled the air around Oracle Park. A few seconds before Wilmer Flores drove in Austin Slater, the guitar riff from “Style” floated around the park.

7/09/23 Elephant Rumblings: Four more years of A's baseball at the Coliseum?. John Shea at the San Francisco Chronicle discussed where the A's might play when the team's lease at the Coliseum expires after the 2024 season. With funding secured in Las Vegas, the A's are now projecting their new stadium on The Strip will open in 2028. A number of potential sites are mentioned in Shea's article: the Aviators ballpark in suburban Las Vegas, other minor-league facilities in Reno and Sacramento, and Oracle Park. Oh yeah—I almost forgot the Coliseum, which according to MLBPA executive committee member Austin Slater is the option that “works out best.”
