For the first time in 328 days, Tomas Nido squatted behind home plate and stepped up to bat for a game in Queens. “It's been a long time,” Nido said before play Friday. “Feels like it.” The time away made Nido appreciate this opportunity more. Perhaps it also did some good for his bat. Tomas Nido was all smiles after his solo home run. Robert Sabo for NY Post Nido, playing in his first game at Citi Field since June 3, welcomed himself back with a home run and double in the Mets' 4-2 loss to the Cardinals . The longtime Met came through with his fourth career game with multiple extra-base hits, and his homer — a fifth-inning shot to right-center — was his first since Sept. 30, 2022. | 2/24/24 | Mets Notebook: Tomas Nido facing tough path back to major leagues. Tomas Nido's path back to the big leagues is a steep one. The Mets catcher has remained in the organization since last summer when the club cut him as the result of a roster crunch. “I worked on a little bit of everything [in the offseason],” Nido told the Daily News earlier this week. Nido went 0-for-2 with an RBI in his first spring training game Saturday afternoon, but he also dropped a throw by Brett Baty from third base, allowing a run to score. Omar Narváez exercised the player option in his contract for the 2024 season, but the New York Mets may not hold the same love for him. According to The New York Post, Narvaez could be traded this offseason. Among the chatter at the GM Meetings was the Mets could look to trade Narvaez if they can find a team willing to take on a portion of his salary.
