6/29/25 Red Sox RHP Jordan Hicks looks forward to role after being acquired in Rafael Devers' trade. Jordan Hicks saw the Boston Red Sox wanted him as a free agent when they made a push after the 2023 season. Two weeks ago, he was surprised that they were able to get him while he’s still on the injured list when they shipped Rafael Devers off to San Francisco. “I was little bit surprised,” Hicks said Sunday morning, speaking to reporters from the Red Sox dugout before they faced the Toronto Blue Jays.

6/01/25 Giants Beat Against Marlins Despite Awful Outing from Struggling Reliever. The San Francisco Giants extended their streak of not scoring more than four runs in a game to 14 against the Miami Marlins on Sunday. Reliever Jordan Hicks, who hadn't pitched since Monday, came in and was wild and erratic in his shortest outing of the season and nearly allowed the Marlins to creep back into the contest. It was clear Hicks' confidence has grown so low that Melvin may need to make a harsher call than pulling his struggling arm like he did Sunday. During his brief stint as a starting pitcher this season, Hicks struggled mightily and ultimately found himself demoted to the bullpen due to his performance becoming a liability.

5/28/25 San Francisco Giants Manager Bob Melvin Announces Seismic Change to Bullpen Roles. The San Francisco Giants have made some major changes to their bullpen recently, some because of ineffective play and others out of necessity. With Jordan Hicks struggling in some facets as a starter, the Giants decided to move him back to the bullpen, swapping roles with Hayden Birdsong. When Justin Verlander went on the injured list, someone needed to step into his role. San Francisco decided to tab Kyle Harrison, who was promoted when Lou Trivino was designated for assignment, to take his place.

5/27/25 Giants Have Clearly Made Correct Decision Flip Flopping Starter and Reliever. The San Francisco Giants shook things up recently within the pitching staff in a decision that could not have been an easy one. After a difficult start to the season for converted reliever Jordan Hicks and a dominant start for long reliever Hayden Birdsong, the Giants sent Hicks back to the bullpen and brought the young Birdsong into the starting rotation. Birdsong has only made two starts so far, but those outings have shown he has taken another step from last season. On Monday, Birdsong had some bad luck.

5/21/25 Former Cardinals Hurler Axed From Rotation By New Team; What Went Wrong?. A former St. Louis Cardinals hurler has run into some trouble with his new club. The San Francisco Giants are excelling this year, but they haven't been happy with starting pitcher Jordan Hicks. Hicks, previously a reliever, was converted into a starter to begin the 2024 season and excelled, but 2025 hasn't been as kind, as he's gone 1-5 with a 6.60 ERA in 10 starts. As a result, the Giants are making a change concerning Hicks.

5/18/25 Jordan Hicks accepts move to bullpen but hopes to return to Giants rotation. Jordan Hicks is accepting his move to the San Francisco Giants bullpen but wants to return to the rotation. Hicks signed a four-year, $44 million deal with the Giants during the offseason with the intent of starting after primarily spending his first few seasons as a reliever. The 28-year-old right-hander was 1-5 with a 6.55 ERA in nine starts and the Giants decided to move Hicks to the bullpen in the middle of the season, as they did last year.

5/17/25 SF Giants move Hicks to bullpen, bring Birdsong into rotation. On Monday, manager Bob Melvin shook up his starting lineup. Melvin announced prior to Saturday's game against the Athletics that Jordan Hicks will move into the bullpen and Hayden Birdsong will join the rotation and make his first start of the season on Tuesday.

5/16/25 Time Has Come for San Francisco Giants To End Jordan Hicks Experiment. The San Francisco Giants made a bold decision when they signed Jordan Hicks to a four-year, $44 million deal ahead of the 2024 season. For the first three seasons of his career with the St. Louis Cardinals, he was used as a relief pitcher. Eight times in 2022, out of his 35 appearances, he took the mound as a starting pitcher. The experiment was short lived as Hicks made 65 appearances out of the bullpen with the Cardinals and Toronto Blue Jays in 2023 before hitting the free agent market.

5/14/25 Could this right-hander's spot in the SF Giants' rotation be in jeopardy?. Jordan Hicks had lost six straight decisions as a starting pitcher last season when the Giants decided to move the right-hander from the rotation to the bullpen. With wins once again proving to be elusive for Hicks in 2025, manager Bob Melvin could soon be tempted to make a similar move. Hicks, making his ninth start of the season on Wednesday, didn't pitch poorly but was still charged with five earned runs on seven hits in what became an 8-7 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks before an announced crowd of 30,078 at Oracle Park. Hicks, looking for his first victory since March 31, only lasted two-plus innings before he was replaced by fellow right-hander Hayden Birdsong with two runners on in the third.

5/10/25 Giants Experiment Moving Relief Pitcher to Rotation Has Been Complete Failure. The San Francisco Giants are about to enter the meat of the regular season where it truly feels like things could go either way after what was a hot start. Pitching was always a concern entering the season for the Giants, and while some guys have stepped up to elevate the rotation as a whole, there's one name there who has not held up his end of the bargain. San Francisco handed Jordan Hicks a lucrative contract prior to the 2024 season with the intention of turning the career reliever into a starting pitcher. It was an out of the box idea, but Hicks would hardly have been the first to make the transition successfully had things worked out.

5/09/25 SF Giants stifled by Paddack's bid at perfect game. Paddack flirted with a perfect game as the Giants lost to the Minnesota Twins, 3-1, on Friday night at Target Field, outdueling Jordan Hicks by limiting San Francisco's offense to one run over 7 1/3 innings with six strikeouts. “We just didn't look crisp today, whether it was at the plate — or really anywhere,” manager Bob Melvin said.
