5/22/25 | Astros news: Yordan Alvarez takes crucial step back from hand injury. The Houston Astros continue to miss their All-Star slugger Yordan Alvarez, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a strained muscle in his right hand in early May. Initial comments made by the team expressed confidence that the seventh-year veteran would only miss the minimum number of games with the ailment. Fortunately for Houston, the team was able to report a positive update regarding the injury. Astros manager Joe Espada said Alvarez is “better” and began taking batting practice in the cage with coaches throwing to him, per MLB.com's Brian McTaggart on X. 5/19/25 | Astros Can Find Perfect MLB Trade Deadline Partner in the Pirates. As things currently stand, the Houston Astros are going to be right in the mix of the American League playoff picture once again. Injuries have been tough to overcome with star slugger Yordan Alvarez and starting pitchers Spencer Arrighetti and Hayden Wesneski all landing on the injured list. The team's starting pitching depth was already shaky with Justin Verlander and Yusei Kikuchi both departing in free agency, signing with the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Angels, respectively. Add in Cristian Javier and Luis Garcia, recovering from injuries and Lance McCullers Jr. making his return to the Major League mound for the first time since the 2022 World Series, losing Arrighetti and Wesneski wasn't something the team could really afford. 5/17/25 | Joe Espada Says Astros Superstar Is Close to Returning From Injury. It's been an interesting season for the Houston Astros so far. No one quite knew what to expect after the franchise underwent so many changes this past winter that involved multiple star players leaving in free agency and via trade, but because of the pedigree they have and the fact that there is still plenty of talent on this roster, they were still projected to contend for a playoff spot. At times, Houston has flashed the upside they possess, combining elite pitching performances with offensive outbursts that remind everyone why this franchise is so feared. Much of the reason for the offensive inconsistencies is that Yordan Alvarez has not been himself. Source: https://www.si.com/mlb/astros/news/joe-espada-says... |

5/09/25 | Four Potential Trade Candidates Astros Should Monitor Ahead of Deadline. The Houston Astros offense has been off to quite the slow start this season, ranking tied for 16th in MLB with a team wRC+ of just 96. While the pitching looks like it could carry them quite a ways, it would also make sense for them to invest into the offense to bring in another impact bat. There is obviously hope that struggling players like Yordan Alvarez and Yainer Diaz can turn things around, but that might not be enough. It might seem counter productive to trade for another outfield bat with an underwhelming statline, but Robert has begun to look like himself again.
