3/18/25 Seattle Mariners: Raley's bat, versatility make case for ABs. Luke Raley will get his first start at first base in 11 days for the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday afternoon against the Brewers in Peoria, Ariz. Despite of the lack of reps at first, it is still the position that Raley is expected to occupy the majority of this season. “His at-bats have been really good,” Mariners manager Dan Wilson said of the lefty-swinging Raley. A year ago, Raley was mired in a miserable spring at the plate that translated into a slow start to his season, resulting in fewer at-bats – mostly in a platoon role – for the first few months than most expected him to get.

3/13/25 Mariners need Luke Raley to play 1B. He's come 'leaps and bounds' to do it.. When he put on a first baseman's glove last season, Luke Raley sometimes wondered if he should also take a mask and a stick with him onto the infield. Because he knows there were times when he looked a bit like a hockey goalie trying to play first base. An outfielder for the bulk of his career, Raley had a full offseason to wrap his mind around the idea of being a full-time first baseman, and then a full spring training to prepare for the job. “I would say I'm a natural outfielder,” Raley said.

1/14/25 Mariners predicted to sign $36 million Gold Glover to pair with J.P. Crawford. The Seattle Mariners have exactly one infield position figured out for the 2025 season, and that's a massive concern. Sure, Luke Raley seems like a solid bet to play some first base, and new addition Donovan Solano can help fill in some gaps. Second base has plagued Seattle in the past, and as things stand, it looks like it will again in 2025. Ha Seong Kim, the former San Diego Padres Gold Glover, is hoping to make his return at the end of April.

1/06/25 San Francisco Giants Reporter Proposes Wild Trade Between Seattle Mariners, Giants. There's a little over a month until Seattle Mariners pitchers and catcher report to Spring Training at the team's complex in Peoria, Ariz. And there's still vacancies on the roster that need to be filled before position players join pitchers and catchers later. The Mariners entered the offseason looking for a starter at second and third base in addition to a partner at first base to pair with Luke Raley. Seattle has lost out on several prominent free agents in the offseason and potential trades for fits like Triston Casas and Alec Bohm have either fallen through or haven't advanced past preliminary stages. San Francisco Chronicle senior reporter Susan Slusser wrote an article exploring the possibility of the Giants getting pitching help in the offseason.
