6/24/25 3 bats Cubs should pursue to fill their need for a productive bench player. 3 bats Cubs should pursue to fill their need for a productive bench player The Cubs remain in desperate need of an upgrade over Vidal Bruján or Jon Berti. Where should they look to find one? By Brandon Glick | Share on Facebook Share on X Copy Article Vidal Bruján celebrates scoring a run for the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field in 2025. | Matt Dirksen/GettyImages Share on Facebook Share on X Share on Reddit Copy Article Simply put, the Chicago Cubs' bench stinks. The team's current bench of Reese McGuire, Justin Turner, Jon Berti, and Vidal Bruján can at least claim that it looks versatile and effective on paper, but in practice, it's arguably the weakest unit on the entire team. Save for McGuire

6/08/25 After nearly 500 MLB games, Cubs' Jon Berti finally plays at hometown park. When Chicago Cubs utility man Jon Berti entered Friday's game as a pinch-runner in the eighth inning, it marked the first time he had stepped on the field at Comerica Park in a game since he was playing for Troy High School nearly two decades ago. Berti is 35 years old and has played parts of eight seasons and nearly 500 games in the big leagues. Surely, in the interleague era of Major League Baseball, his journey had to have taken him to his hometown at least once? “I played here in high school probably about five times, but professionally, this is the first time,” Berti said from the visiting clubhouse before Sunday's finale between the Cubs and Tigers.

5/13/25 These numbers show just how poor the Cubs' third base production has been. There hasn't been much coming from the hot corner so far this season but the offensive numbers are astronomically low. May 6, 2025; Chicago, Illinois, USA; Chicago Cubs infielder Jon Berti (5) hits an RBI single during the fifth inning against the San Francisco Giants at Wrigley Field.

4/09/25 3 takeaways from Chicago Cubs’ series win, including clutch two-out hits and Jon Berti stepping up. As a fly-ball pitcher, home runs are inevitably part of left-hander Shota Imanaga’s game. He averaged nearly one home run allowed per start last year, yet he still was one of the best starters in the league because most of that damage came with nobody on base. The Texas Rangers took Imanaga deep twice Wednesday, one of which was a two-run homer as part of a four-run fifth inning. Imanaga’s day ...

3/17/25 Latest Los Angeles Angels injury confirms the Cubs avoided an offseason mistake. Not enough Chicago Cubs fans are putting respect on Jon Berti's name. As Cubs fans try to predict what the team's Opening Day roster may look like, the decision that is at the heart of the construction is the final spot on the team's bench. The two players fighting for that spot are Vidal Bruján and Gage Workman. Given that Workman is a Rule 5 draftee and Bruján is out of minor-league options, the injury to Nico Hoerner allowed the Cubs to roster both players for their games against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Japan this week.
