10/17/23 Edwin Rios elects for free agency after wasted season with Chicago Cubs. The Edwin Rios experiment is over for the Chicago Cubs and one could argue that it never really started. Rios signed with the Cubs at the start of Spring Training last season and after never being given an opportunity at consistent playing time with the Los Angeles Dodgers, there was a sense that the veteran corner infielder would get consistent playing time in Chicago. The Cubs, with their offense lacking power, had a need at first base and third base but manager David Ross never seemed to be a fan of the idea of giving Rios playing time.

3/23/23 Watch Chicago Cubs' Edwin Rios blast his 4th homer of the spring. On Wednesday, Chicago Cubs third baseman, Edwin Rios, launched his Cubs-leading fourth home run of Spring Training with a blast to right field. Most notably, the homerun came again off of a left-handed pitcher, which is an encouraging sign for the front office, and they can depend on Rios for some added pop against southpaws. Rios is slashing .206/.308/.618 with four home runs and seven RBIs in 34 at-bats this spring. On the other hand, we see sluggers hit in the low .200s all the time, such as former Cub Kyle Schwarber, who still blasts 35-40 home runs a season because they have ample playing time to do so.

3/19/23 How Cubs' Edwin Rios unlocked his swing in spring training. MESA, Ariz. — The last time the Cubs played the Padres, Edwin Rios entered the game hitless. “He is a guy that is on the radar that … with a chunk of at-bats could put up some real big power numbers and really help us out,” manager David Ross said. Rios has shown just that in his last 10 games, logging six hits, including three home runs, and putting himself in position to claim an Opening Day roster spot. The Cubs signed Rios a few days before full-squad spring-training workouts began, and he joined the team the day his addition became official.

3/10/23 L.A. Story: New coaches are a hit with Cubs. The Red Sox weren't built in a day, but there were no complaints when Theo Epstein and his politburo transferred their methods from Fenway Park to Wrigley Field that helped end a World Series drought in 2016. The gradual influx of former Dodgers coaches and players hasn't garnered the same fanfare, but there are some similarities the Cubs are implementing as they try to regain the perennial National League power status that Los Angeles has achieved with 10 straight playoff appearances, three league championships and a 2020 World Series title. Third baseman Edwin Rios was pleased to be reunited with former Dodgers minor-league hitting coaches Dustin Kelly and Johnny Washington last month.

2/24/23 Edwin Rios determined to prove Dodgers wrong with Chicago Cubs. It was last Friday when the Chicago Cubs made the surprise signing of free-agent infielder Edwin Rios to a one-year deal. Rios was non-tendered by the Los Angeles Dodgers last December and remained on the free agent market as he looked for his next opportunity. A tweet that was shared by LA Times baseball writer Jorge Castillo adds some insight into Rios and his decision to sign with the Cubs. Rios never received consistent playing time in his four seasons with the Dodgers and the 2022 season appeared to have signaled the end of his time with the team.

6/06/22 Ezequiel Texas Duranger.
"He's a Mormon like a wolf!" That's me singing about Ezequiel Duran (2-for-4 and his 1st homer) as he was called up by the struggling-to-get-offense Rangers, who are only spending $500 million this year. Whatever the case, circle July 8th on your calendar as the first day we can get the long-awaited matchup of Duran/Duran. Her name is Edwin Rios and she is dancing on the sand! In the Itch's top 25 2nd base prospects, Ezequiel got some shine, "Acquired from the Yankees in the Joey Gallo deal, Duran is a twitch factory who logged 19 HR and 19 SB in 105 games in High-A this year, slashing .267/.342/.486 between the two organizations. He also went to the fall league and slashed .278/.333/.611 with another three home runs in 16 games. I’ve been into this guy’s baseball actions since the first time I saw video of him way back in 2017. He’s a stout right handed hitter at 5’11” 185 lbs, who swings like he’s killing snakes. Grey better watch out, since he's a snake." Not cool! In deeper leagues, where you're struggling for everything -- wouldn't be me! (Absolutely is me!) -- I could see grabbing Duran. "Just like that river twisting through a Dusty land!" Me singing about Duran when he faces the Dusty-led Astros. Unlike the Phils' defense, that shizz is catchy. Anyway, here's what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:

5/18/22 Turner powers Dodgers to doubleheader sweep of Diamondbacks.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Although the Los Angeles Dodgers keep falling behind early, they’ve had enough power lately to make sure they don’t stay there.

Edwin Rios hit a three-run homer during a six-run second inning and the Dodgers erased another quick deficit Tuesday night in a 12-3 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks to sweep the first doubleheader between the NL West rivals.

In the opener of the day-night twinbill, Mookie Betts, Trea Turner and Justin Turner homered in a five-run sixth as Los Angeles outlasted Arizona 7-6.

Trea Turner added two hits and four RBIs in the second game, and Freddie Freeman had three hits and three RBIs to help the Dodgers extend their winning streak to four games. They can finish a four-game sweep Wednesday.

“I just think we’re getting going a little bit more,” Trea Turner said between games. “I feel like nobody has really played up to their potential other than maybe Mookie right now, and maybe Freddie. We know there’s a lot more in there, so hopefully going forward there’s a lot more home runs up and down the lineup. We’re all dangerous players, so I expect more of that.”

Jordan Luplow and Christian Walker staked Arizona to a fast start with first-inning home runs, but the Diamondbacks lost at Dodger Stadium for the 12th time in 13 games and have dropped 10 of their last 11 series to Los Angeles.

Walker has homered in the first three games of the series.

It was the first doubleheader at Dodger Stadium since 1999, when the Dodgers and Colorado Rockies made up a rainout from earlier in the season. It also was the first scheduled doubleheader in Los Angeles since 1987.

Arizona committed three errors in the nightcap, and three pitchers combined to issue seven walks.
