2/14/25 | Griffin Canning reveals reason for choosing Mets this offseason. Offseason add Griffin Canning chose the New York Mets over other suitors because of the pitching development group and the team's high-tech pitching lab. Canning's career hasn't gone the way he envisioned. After a dominant career at UCLA, the righty was taken with a 2nd round pick by the Los Angeles Angels in the 2017 MLB Draft. Debuting in the majors less than two years later, Canning departed the Angels this offseason with a 4.78 career ERA and a .424 winning percentage, having never figured things out in Anaheim. 2/10/25 | Griffin Canning all in on Mets' pitch technology lab: 'Stupid not to use'. PORT ST. LUCIE — Griffin Canning became hooked on the Mets this offseason when team officials, on a Zoom call during his recruitment, started discussing the technology they use to help pitchers improve. One such technology system is KinaTrax, which shows a three-dimensional skeleton of a pitcher's delivery rather than just video of his mechanics. Canning was “intrigued” by the discussion, which he said was a factor in his decision to sign with the Mets. The right-hander received a one-year contract worth $4.25 million from the club. The Mets, now in the third season of their pitching lab, are among the MLB teams at the forefront of incorporating technology into their pitching development. 3 Griffin Source: https://nypost.com/2025/02/10/sports/griffin-canni... |
12/26/24 | Tom Brennan: Surprising Steamers Stuff; Roster Is Reforming; There Once Was a Guy. Picture of a Steamer…FULL STEAM AHEAD! So the Mets, on December 18 or thereabouts, as I write this, agreed to sign pitcher Griffin Canning. So I did what I like to do: See what Steamers (Fangraphs) projects him to do in 2025, after his high innings and high 5.16 ERA with the Angelinos in 2024. Well, the “steam team” had him pegged at 129 MLB innings for 2025 and a much better, and not-so-bad, 4.22 ERA. So I looked to compare him to leaky Paul Blackburn. Steamers projects Paul with a high 4.66 ERA, giving him an Adrian Houser feel, if you catch my drift. Tylor Megill, you ask? A 3.77 ERA projected for 2025. Nothing shabby about that. So get off the big fella's back. How does that compare to ace Source: http://macksmets.blogspot.com/2024/12/tom-brennan-... |
