7/06/25 Blue Jays place 2B Andres Gimenez (ankle) on 10-day IL. The Toronto Blue Jays placed second baseman Andres Gimenez on the 10-day injured list on Sunday because of a left ankle sprain. Toronto recalled outfielder Joey Loperfido from Triple-A Buffalo, optioned right-hander Lazaro Estrada to Buffalo, activated right-hander Ryan Burr from the 60-day injured list and designated rookie outfielder Will Robertson for assignment. Gimenez, 26, last played on Friday and tweaked his ankle again while running the bases during a 4-3 win in 10 innings over the visiting Los Angeles Angels.

7/05/25 Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez latest injury update surfaces before Angels game. The Toronto Blue Jays remain red-hot atop the AL East, but an injury to Andres Gimenez could complicate matters as they enter Game 2 of their three-game series against the Los Angeles Angels. Gimenez, who returned to the lineup Friday after missing time with an ankle injury, was pulled mid-game after appearing to aggravate the same issue. The Blue Jays are now awaiting MRI results, with the second baseman considered day-to-day. According to a post by MLB.com's Keegan Matheson on X, formerly known as Twitter, the situation remains unclear as the club continues to monitor Gimenez's status and await results from his MRI.

6/15/25 Cleveland Guardians Praised for Making This Offseason Trade. After the Cleveland Guardians were three wins away from the World Series last season, the front office made a couple of blockbuster deals, trading away some of the roster's mainstays. One of those trades was sending Andres Gimenez to the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for Spencer Horwitz. Then they quickly flipped Horwitz to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a package centered around Luis Ortiz. Bradford Doolittle of ESPN recently named Cleveland's acquisition of Ortiz one of last offseason's under-the-radar trades.

6/15/25 Cleveland Guardians Offseason Acquisition Continues To Impress in Minors. While the Cleveland Guardians did not acquire many instant-impact players last offseason, one new addition continues to make rumbles within the franchise's minor league system. After the Guardians traded second basemen Andres Gimenez to the Toronto Blue Jays for Spencer Horwitz, Cleveland flipped the 27-year-old first basemen to the Pittsburgh Pirates for a trio of pitchers, which included starter Luis Ortiz. Coming out of Wake Forest, Hartle was selected in the third round of the 2024 MLB Draft by the Pirates.

5/21/25 Blue Jays Can Address Lack of Lineup Power in Trade with Angels. There are several reasons why the Toronto Blue Jays are in the position that they currently are in the standings. Several players are falling woefully short of expectations, including their two biggest offseason acquisitions: second baseman Andres Gimenez and designated hitter Anthony Santander. Expected to provide a boost to the team's offense, they have instead been two of the major culprits when it comes to holding down the team's production. One area of the offense that has been especially poor thus far this season has been in the power department.

Relief pitcher Yimi Garcia was re-signed as well.

4/24/25 Guardians Slugger Has Been A 'Pleasant Surprise' To Start Season. The biggest question for the Cleveland Guardians coming into the season was who would be their starting second baseman after trading Andres Gimenez over the winter. Ultimately, Gabriel Arias has seen most of the playing time in the position. After some disappointment earlier in his career, Arias looked like a different player through the season's first month. Bleacher Report's Tim Kelly recently identified Arias as one reason for Guardians fans to be excited early in 2025 and called his offensive production a "pleasent surprise."

4/10/25 Gimenez homers as Blue Jays down Washington. Andres Gimenez hit his third home run in five games and Bowden Francis gave up two hits in six innings as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Washington Nationals 5-2 Monday in interleague play. After his homer, Gimenez walked, was hit by a pitch, recorded his 100th career stolen base and doubled. Francis (1-0) took a no-hitter into the sixth inning before giving up back-to-back solo home runs to C.J. Abrams and James Woods with one out that cut Toronto's lead to 4-2.

4/01/25 How Blue Jays' offseason trade acquisition already made franchise history. When fielding savant Andres Gimenez hit 32 home runs over a two-season stretch with the Cleveland Guardians, it seemed as if the middle infielder could morph into an all-round talent. The offseason trade addition is already making franchise history in the Great White North during the 2025 season. Gimenez is the first Jays player to belt at least three home runs in his first five games with the team, per MLB Network.

3/17/25 Blue Jays listed as possible landing spot for $56 million Cy Young. The Toronto Blue Jays are entering the 2025 season hoping to bounce back after a dreadful finish to 2024. After reaching the postseason three times in a four-year span, Toronto fell to last place in the American League East, finishing with a record of 74-88. This past offseason, they made some big moves, trading for Andres Gimenez while also signing Max Scherzer, Anthony Santander and Jeff Hoffman. On Friday, Bleacher Report's Zachary D. Rymer listed them as a possible fit for right-hander Sandy Alcantara, who will likely be traded at some point this year.

3/16/25 Guardians Predicted to Make Shocking In-Season Trade. The Cleveland Guardians are an organization that is certainly known for swinging big trades, but not the type their fan base typically likes. Case in point, the Guardians traded a pair of All-Stars during the offseason, jettisoning both second baseman Andres Gimenez and first baseman Josh Naylor to save some cash. Could Cleveland do it again with another All-Star player in 2025? Gabe Goudy of The Big Factor thinks so, noting that Emmanuel Clase is one of the few players on the team who have already earned a contract extension and could be on the chopping block as a result.

2/15/25 Sidearmer Sandlin an intriguing piece in new-look Toronto Blue Jays bullpen. Defensive standout Andres Gimenez was the feature acquisition for Toronto in the four-player trade between the Blue Jays and Cleveland Guardians last December. The sidearmer gives Toronto's new-look relief crew some much-needed variety and depth. "He's kind of the underrated guy of the bullpen," Blue Jays manager John Schneider said Saturday. Sandlin posted an 8-0 record and 3.75 earned-run average in 68 appearances last season.

2/13/25 Toronto Blue Jays GM keeps hinting a trade is on the way. With pitchers and catchers reporting to the Toronto Blue Jays facility today in Dunedin, Florida, the team's 2024-2025 offseason came to an official end. For the Blue Jays front office, it's been a busy few months, adding talent such as Andres Gimenez and Anthony Santander via trade and free agency, respectively, while having infamously failed negotiations with several top talents like Juan Soto and Roki Sasaki. “We have some exceptional talent on the roster already,” general manager Ross Atkins told reporters today, as per Sportsnet.
