4/25/25 Pirates' Oneil Cruz On Pace for Historic 40/40 Season. Pittsburgh Pirates center fielder Oneil Cruz is turning heads across Major League Baseball with a red-hot start to the season, putting himself on pace for a historic achievement. If Cruz maintains this torrid pace over the remaining 121 games — accounting for his current rate of playing time — he would finish the season with an eye-popping 44 home runs and 69 stolen bases. If Cruz keeps this pace, his numbers that would place him in one of baseball's most exclusive fraternities: the 40/40 club. Only six players in MLB history have ever achieved the feat of 40 home runs and 40 stolen bases in a single season, with Shohei Ohtani being the most recent in 2024.

4/24/25 Pirates Blow Lead, Drop Series Finale to Angels. The Pittsburgh Pirates took an early lead, but failed to hold on, losing 4-3 to the Los Angeles Angels at Angels Stadium in Anaheim, Calif. The Pirates won the first two games of the series, 9-3 on April 22 and 3-0 on April 23, meaning they missed the chance for their first sweep of the season. Center fielder Oneil Cruz began the game with a leadoff home run, crushing a ball into right field, giving the Pirates an immediate 1-0 lead. Right fielder Bryan Reynolds grounded out after Cruz, but designated hitter Andrew McCutchen hit a deep shot that Angels center fielder Jo Adell just missed with his glove, allowing McCutchen to get in for a double.
