12/08/23 Rays re-sign Erasmo Ramirez to minor-league deal, complete Marlins trade. Continuing their efforts to accrue pitching depth, the Rays re-signed veteran right-hander Erasmo Ramirez to a minor-league contract with an invite to major-league spring training. Ramirez, 33, pitched for the Rays from 2015-17, then came back in June after being released by Washington. Ramirez worked in several roles as the Rays lost multiple pitchers to injuries, posting a 1-0, 6.48 record over 15 games, striking out 30 over 33 1/3 innings, but allowing 46 hits, including seven homers. Also Friday, outfielder Jake Mangum was announced as the player to be named completing the Nov. 17 trade of Vidal Brujan and Calvin Faucher to Miami for minor-league pitcher Andrew Lindsey and infielder Erick Lara.

11/17/23 Rays send Vidal Brujan to Marlins in 4-player deal. The Tampa Bay Rays traded utility man Vidal Brujan and relief pitcher Calvin Faucher to the Miami Marlins on Friday. The Rays received infielder Erick Lara, 17; right-hander Andrew Lindsey, 24; and a player to be named. "Players that have some good ingredients," Rays president of baseball operations Erik Neander said of the newcomers, according to MLB.com.

9/05/23 Rays: 8, Red Sox: 6 - Lowe's Well That Ends Well. After losing the past 3 of 4 games, Rays will look to keep pace with Baltimore and their 2nd win in the month of September. Rays scored first in the bottom of the 2nd inning, after a Vidal Brujan walk, Jonathan Aranda tripled (a career first) and although it looked like an error on the Red Sox outfield, it hit one of the Trops rings. Kevin Cash tried to challenge for an extra run, but it was not overturned. It ended up not mattering as Rene Pinto launched a 2 run HR to score Aranda.

4/10/23 Rasmussen Hides Eggs On Scoreboard.
The crazy analytics that the Rays have that no one else has: Pinpointing what players are good at and reenforcing that some players only do what they're good at. For unstints, they'll tell someone like Drew Rasmussen (7 IP, 0 ER, 1hit, zero walks, 8 Ks, ERA at 0.00) "pitch well," and only "pitch well." Crazy, right? Sometimes they'll say to a hitter, "Hit well." That has never been done before by a Major League Baseball team. One time they said to Vidal Brujan, "Be terrible," and what do you know? What did he do? I'm gonna give you one guess here. He was terrible! It's analytics like this that allow the Rays to save money too. The Rays received a bill from their travel department and were like, "This is way too much money to travel to games," so they said to Manuel Margot, "Fly the plane," and that's what he did. Analytics, that's what this is. So, I went to look to see if Drew Rasmusen had a sleeper post written by me, but he didn't. Guess I merely loved him vs. wrote him up. Wanna know how much pitching there is in the majors? Rasmussen has a 2.96 ERA in 243 1/3 IP in his career. Yeah, but you have to draft a top starter. Mmkay. Anyway, here's what else I saw this weekend in fantasy baseball:

10/03/22 Rays bring back Vidal Brujan, Kevin Herget. The Rays open their final regular-season series tonight at Fenway Park, still playing for seeding in the three-team American League wild-card field and information to make final roster decisions. They made a series of roster moves ahead of the game, bringing up infielder/outfielder Vidal Brujan, who could be a postseason consideration, and reliever Kevin Herget, who will add a fresh arm to the bullpen.

9/05/22 Rays rally in seventh inning to beat Red Sox. Pinch-hiitter Vidal Brujan started the rally getting by a pitch, stealing second and moving to third on Siri’s rightside groundout. That brought up veteran Manuel Margot, and he delivered — as he has so often around the two months he missed with a knee injury — with an RBI double to right-centerfield. With Margot on third after Randy Arozarena’s groundout, trade-deadline acquisition David Peralta came through with a hard shot just inside the first-base bag, which scored Margot and gave the Rays ...

5/16/22 The Mighty V: Vidal Brujan, 2022 Fantasy Baseball.

Good day, All,

A little over a month into the 2022 season and most people in fantasy baseball leagues are still active and paying attention to their fantasy squads. Depending on league format, some managers have been more aggressive with their FAAB bids/waiver priority claims, trying to scoop up the next big prospect (see Jose Miranda, Juan Yepez, Royce Lewis, and George Kirby earlier this month) in order to boost their championship aspirations. Please, blog, may I have some more?

5/11/22 Rays blow late lead, then beat Angels in 10 innings. After being held without a hit on Tuesday, the Rays improved slightly on Wednesday, rapping five. That was good enough, as they blew a lead in the eighth inning but rallied in the 10th to beat the Angels, 4-2. Vidal Brujan began the winning rally against former Rays lefty Aaron Loup, lashing a double down the left field line that scored Kevin Kiermaier, who started the inning as the runner on second.

11/23/21 Vidal Brujan, 2022 Fantasy Outlook. I forgot I included Vidal Brujan in my top 100 2nd half rankings, and, honestly, that made me laugh a lot. Hey, he sucked me in like he was Myles of Straw. No shame in that, I'd do it again if I had the chance. At the backend of the top 100 for the 2nd half, you gotta go risky ishkabibble vs. safe whose-he-whatsies. Vidal Brujan was called up right before the break last year, so I figured we were about to see a prince and I was the Kingmaker. I wasn't even playing checkers, and still missed. C'est la vie, as Ty France says. It was kinda weird how the Rays played Brujan this year. Called him up out of seemingly nowhere, then they let him rot on the bench and demoted him almost as quickly as they promoted him. Though, this reminds me of what I said in my Shane Baz fantasy, the Rays have no problem promoting rookies, they just don't retain them when they have to pay them. So, what can we expect from Vidal Brujan for 2022 fantasy baseball?

7/09/21 For Rays’ Vidal Brujan, an eventful start to big-league career. ST. PETERSBURG — Infielder Vidal Brujan didn’t have to go anywhere between making his debut as the 27th man in Wednesday’s doubleheader and being formally recalled by the Rays on Friday, with Mike Brosseau placed on the injured list. But there still was a lot to unpack. Brujan, 23, got the ball from his first hit, an RBI single against the Indians in his first big-league at-bat, with plans to ...

It's Vidal Brujan SZN! BruSZN?! Tell me oh great Fantasy Baseball Overlord, it is not a dream I have awoken from--"Shut up and grab Vidal Brujan." That's the Fantasy Baseball Overlord speaking only to me. Sorry, you ain't got the cred! The Rays' beat writers said with Manuel Margot hitting the IL with a hamstring injury, which is truly too bad--DID SOMEONE SAY VIDAL BRUJAN?!--The beat writers also said Brujan wouldn't just be up for a doubleheader on Wednesday. He would remain with the Rays. So, I grabbed him in one league, and tried in all my leagues, including a 12-team mixed league. Here's my Vidal Brujan fantasy. Bit old, still applies, which is different than my least favorite fruit, that's "still apples." The big takeaway from my fantasy take on Brujan is what Prospect Itch said about him, "It’s rare enough for a 40-steal player to enter our game. Even rarer to find one who hits enough to earn himself regular playing time. Rarer still to find one who speaks five languages. I mention this last piece because language learning requires the same determination needed for the grind of baseball. You’re going to make mistakes. Might look like an idiot. Might often feel dumb. But you have to keep putting yourself out there. And as long as you stay positive and focus on the long term, you can improve a little bit every day. In 2014, Tampa signed Brujan out of the Dominican Republic for $15,000. He was illiterate at the time. Now: five languages. Grey can’t speak one." Tough but fair, tee bee aitch. Go and grab him! Anyway, here's what else I saw yesterday in fantasy baseball:

6/07/21 Avoiding the Blurbstomp – Super Two for Super Dudes. Yesterday I was looking at my team, specifically at the NA players that my league doesn’t have a slot for, and saw Vidal Brujan and Jarren Duran smiling back at me. Edward Olivares waved at me and happily shed his NA skin, just so he could go 0-3 for me Sunday afternoon. It’s better than accumulating stats that don’t count, or, in the case of Jarren Duran, getting advice from Major League Baseball Ambassador of Blah Jon Jay. This little nugget from Masslive.com made me giggle: “One of [Alex] Cora’s best friends, former major leaguer Jon Jay, played for Team USA. ‘I told Jon Jay to make sure to help Duran out throughout the process,’ Cora said. ‘To talk to him about baseball and what it takes.’ Did I say giggle? I meant to say, “Scream very loudly like I’m Woody Harrelson in True Detective, watching that tape player in McConaghy’s storage space. Don’t talk to Jon Jay, especially about baseball! Every conversation with Jon Jay will result in Duran’s launch angle gains dropping by one full percentage point. David Ortiz or Manny weren’t available? Jarren Duran isn’t going to be show-stopping, but Christ alive, can you please have him talk to anyone else? Wade Boggs? Even after four racks of Keystone, I guarantee ole Wade would give Jarren more to chew on than The Federalist.

5/25/21 RCL Update: The Week That Was, Week 7, 2021. The rookies are coming, the rookies are coming!  If you’re like me, you’re looking at your roster right about now and trying to figure out where in the world all these guys are going to play.  I’d love to grab Vidal Brujan and sit on him until he’s called up, but as it is I have Joey Wendle, Jazz Chisholm and now Brendan Rodgers battling with Marcus Semien, Dansby Swanson and Francisco Lindor (who I drafted way too much of) for playing time.  When Moustakas gets healthy, I’m going to have real middle infield trouble.  It’s a good problem to have, but it makes playing rookie hot potato very difficult.  Do we cut bait with Wendle despite his heater?  Drop Dansby despite that lineup?  At least Jarren Duran is in the outfield, a spot with slightly more lineup flexibility.  How are you all handling the game of rookie hot potato?  Are you just hoping you can beat your league mates to the wire when the time comes?  Do you have a similar lineup crunch you hope will work itself out via trade or injury?  Are you grabbing and holding or constantly adding and dropping every night hoping your rookie is rostered when they get the call?  All of this is a good reminder to leave those last couple roster spots on offense able to be churned over.  There is no issue with leaving an RCL draft knowing you’ll be hitting the waiver wire for your OF5, UTIL and CI/MI spots.  There are players every year that pop from the waiver wire, just keep those eyes peeled.  Right now, point your eyes below for the rest of the week that was, week 7 in the RCLs:

2/16/21 Rays have 9 prospects among ESPN's top 100 for 2021. A player who is often overshadowed in the Rays system but remains highly praised in most prospect circles is Vidal Brujan, who McDaniel ranks as the 26th best in baseball. He being the man who walked onto a tryout field, was given a modest contract bonus of $15K, only to shoot up to the top of the Rays prospect lists in a matter of a year after a stellar debut season.
