5/08/24 Alexander Canario's Chicago Cubs future is further in question after latest demotion. Alexander Canario is heading back down to Iowa as the Chicago Cubs brought their star slugger Cody Bellinger back from injury much sooner than expected for Tuesday night's game. Bellinger's bat is sorely needed in a lineup that has been struggling mightily to score runs of late. For Canario, however, it's another disappointing development on the road to becoming a major league regular that begs questions about whether that day will ever come with the Cubs. Since first making the majors in September of last year, the right-handed outfielder has struggled to get consistent playing time in Chicago despite becoming a respectable offensive force in the minors.

4/20/24 Four-run sixth inning powers Cubs to doubleheader split vs. Marlins. Rookie left fielder Alexander Canario swung at the first pitch he saw in his sixth-inning at-bat and connected on a no-doubt home run to left field. Canario's home run ignited a Cubs offense that found its groove late in Saturday's 5-3 win vs. the Marlins in the second game of the doubleheader. “In the sixth inning, we put together some good at-bats,” manager Craig Counsell said. Canario was the second Cubs player to homer (center fielder Cody Bellinger hit one in the first inning) and it opened the floodgates for the Cubs.

Chicago Cubs No. 10 Prospect Viewed as Top Trade Candidate The Chicago Cubs No. 10 prospect, a right-handed hitting outfielder, is deemed the top early trade candidate for the trade deadline. Author: Jon Conahan Apr 17, 2024 In this story: Chicago Cubs Alexander Canario MLB From the looks of things, the Chicago Cubs should find themselves in a position to make moves around the MLB trade deadline. After making Craig Counsell the highest-paid manager in baseball, the expectation was for the Cubs to do what was needed to make them a contender. During the offseason, the front office made impressive moves, but there was certainly more that could've been done. While the start of the season has seen

4/15/24 Alexander Canario promotion raises injury concern for Chicago Cubs. Chicago Cubs outfield prospect Alexander Canario appears to be getting another look at the Major League level. During his Monday morning hit on ESPN 1000, Jesse Rogers reported that the Cubs are promoting Canario from Triple-A Iowa ahead of their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Canario was among the final group of players in consideration for the final spot on the Cubs' bench but the spot ultimately went to utility infielder Miles Mastrobuoni.

3/27/24 Answering the Miles Mastrobuoni question of the Chicago Cubs Opening Day roster. In hindsight, that was an indictment of Ross than it was Mastrobuoni. The Cubs demoted power-hitting outfield prospect Alexander Canario to Triple-A in favor of Mastrobuoni earning the final spot on the Cubs' bench.

8/30/23 Chicago Cubs prospect Alexander Canario to play in Arizona Fall League. Iowa Cubs right fielder Alexander Canario missed the first few months of the season trying to recover from a devasting injury during winter ball that required ankle and shoulder surgery. The injury didn't just take away costly at-bats from Canario, but valuable time in the young outfielder's development. Canario, still considered one of the biggest prospects in the Chicago Cubs organization, told The Des Moines Register this week he plans to play in the Arizona Fall League following the conclusion of the minor league season. “I think it'll help me because we have a lot of good prospects there and good players too,” Canario said.

7/20/23 Alexander Canario thought his baseball career was over. It's just getting started. As Alexander Canario rolled around the first base line in pain from a horrific shoulder and ankle injury during a Dominican Winter League Game in 2022, the Chicago Cubs prospect immediately feared the worst. Canario, who didn't understand the full extent of his injuries, worried he would be out not only for the year but possibly forever. “I was thinking it's the end of my career,” Canario said. Canario not only made his return but got back on the field this season.

3/10/23 Chicago Cubs prospect Alexander Canario provides injury update. There was an early gaffe for a Spring Training Broadcast for the Chicago Cubs when they faced the Arizona Diamondbacks last month as Bally Sports Arizona believed that Cubs' outfielder prospect Jordan Nwogu was actually fellow outfielder prospect Alexander Canario. What made the gaffe comical was that Canario has yet to be cleared for baseball activities after suffering shoulder and ankle injuries during a freak incident while running to first base during a Winter League game last fall.

11/11/22 How Alexander Canario's freak injury further complicates the Chicago Cubs' center-field options and offseason approach. The sequence was eerily familiar. Chicago Cubs prospect Alexander Canario awkwardly hit first base and went down hard during a Dominican Winter League game two weeks ago. The subsequent injury to the 22-year-old outfielder — a fractured left ankle and separated left shoulder — was reminiscent of how infield prospect Ed Howard’s season ended in mid-May.

11/07/22 Cubs provide injury updates on Alexander Canario, Brennen Davis, Miguel Amaya, Ed Howard. Canario, who broke his left ankle and dislocated his left shoulder a couple weeks ago in the Dominican Winter League, underwent surgery on his ankle last week and is scheduled for shoulder surgery this week. It will be Canario’s second left shoulder surgery in about two years. In November of 2020, he had his labrum repaired, following shoulder dislocation.
