4/25/24 Rays’ Ben Rortvedt will return home to Wisconsin with new lease on career. ST. PETERSBURG — Ben Rortvedt doesn’t have to send his mom a birthday card this year. The Rays catcher will be able to hand it to her and celebrate the occasion with a large group of family and friends next week. For the first time as a major-leaguer, Rortvedt will have the chance to return to his native Wisconsin and play in the park where he watched Brewers games as a boy when the Rays visit ...

4/06/24 Rays Rally To Even Series With Rockies. The Tampa Bay Rays (4-5) defeated the Colorado Rockies (2-7) 8-6 on Saturday night in Denver. The win evens the three game series at one game apiece after Colorado won their home opener on Friday night. Tampa Bay got two in the seventh thanks to a two-run double from Ben Rortvedt before flipping the game in the eighth inning. Tampa Bay put five runs together in the eighth inning to take an 8-6 lead that would prove to be the difference. The Rays will now look to win the series against the Rockies when the two teams meet in the series finale on Sunday afternoon. First pitch Sunday

2/27/24 Ben Rortvedt trying to hit his way into Yankees' plans … and so far, so good. Yankees catcher Ben Rortvedt hates being known as a good receiver who can't hit. It's not true, he'll tell you, even though the left-handed hitter sports a career .147 average in 157 at-bats over two seasons after hitting .118 in 32 Yankees games last year. “Oh absolutely, I'm a better hitter than I've shown,” Rortvedt said. Rortvedt has shown that he can be a productive hitter in the minors and he looked good at the plate Monday going 2-for-2 with two hard singles in the Yankees' 9-2 Grapefruit League win over the Twins.

11/16/23 Yankees 2023 Roster Report Card: Ben Rortvedt. Before May of this past season, there was a joke around here and other parts of Yankees internet that Ben Rortvedt did not actually exist. The third piece of the trade with the Twins that brought Josh Donaldson and Isiah Kiner-Falefa to New York, Rortvedt was seemingly acquired to be the backup catcher in 2022. In his place, the Yankees acquired Jose Trevino, who took the bull by the horns and put in an All-Star first half. Rortvedt suddenly found himself as the third string catcher, and playing in Triple-A in 2022 and the start of 2023.
